Visual Studio :: Publishing A DB Site From VWD 2010?

Dec 19, 2010

I am struggling to publish a site built (and working locally) using VWD 2010 Express to a production server.I realise that this is because I don't understand enough about the relationship between the website and SQL server and I certainly don't know enough about the way SQL server works in general. Can anybody recommend some learning resources - books, tutorials, vids etc, that explain the background and in particular address the issue of how to publish to a production server.

Visual Studio :: VWD 2010 Express - No Publishing?

Jan 10, 2011

This is just a small problem with some form of workaround im sure.I'm ready to publish my ASP.NET website, however, there is no 'Publish' option when I right click the project in solution explorer or even a Build Tab on the menu. I'm using Visual Web Developer 2010 and having done some research they all refer to this option in the Tab menu when I don't even have the Build tab myself.I did also see something to Download but I accidently closed the tab in a hurry - WebPI is it? Will this work?

The reason I want to 'Publish' ideally via MS VWD 2010 Express is that in previous versions (VS 08) when it 'Publishes' is combines the .cs/vb files with their respective pages rather than upload them as seperate files through FTP.I know some changes need to be done with the web.config file so If there is any info on that and other essential info I need to know please help me out (links references wud do! :P)

'Add Config Transforms' And One Click Publish Option Not Working When Upgraded From Visual Studio 2005 To Visual Studio 2010

Jul 28, 2010

I just recently upgrade my asp.net web project from visual studio 2005 to visual studio 2010. The upgrade was successful with no problems however im missing some features with this project. The One Click Publish feature(which is greyed out) in the header area of Visual Studio 2010 and the Add Config Transforms feature which is no where to be seen when you right click on web.config. When i create a new web project straight from visual studio 2010, these options work fine.

Visual Studio :: Errors In Root Machine.config And Web.config After 2010 Installation

Jan 19, 2011

I just installed VS2010 and opened the root machine.config and web.config files for review and I found some errors. In machine.config, the following line has errors in both entries for <Microsoft.VisualStudio.Diagnostics.ServiceModelSink.Behavior>. When I hover the cursor over them I get a tooltip text which displays: "The element 'endpointBehaviors' has invalid child element 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Diagnostics.ServiceModelSink.Behavior'. List of possible elements expected: '...(list of options here)...'. The same problem happens for the second appereance in tag <serviceBehaviors>.

[Code]....

In web.config, there is a tag called <protocols> that has an error with a tooltip text that says "The element 'system.web' has invalid child element 'protocols'. List of possible elements expected: '...(list of options here)...'.

Publishing Web Application To A Mapped Drive With Visual Studio 2008 And Windows 7

Oct 21, 2010

We have a shared drive where web applications are published to. When I attempt to publish I get the following error:

------ Publish started: Project: XXX.Web, Configuration: Release Any CPU ------
Connecting to T:WebSitesXXX...

Unable to create the Web site 'T:WebSitesXXX'. The path 'T:WebSitesXXX' does not exist or you do not have access. The system cannot find the path specified.

Details

OS: Windows 7
IDE: Visual Studio 2008 (running as administrator)
Path exists? Yup.

I assume it's some permissions issue, but I have no idea where to start.

Publishing Via "File System" In Visual Studio 2010 - Doesn't Work?

Jun 2, 2010

this is an extremely frustrating situation. We have just upgraded to Visual Studio 2010, and very nice it is, except for when it won't do something really simple, like Publish your ASP.NET Web Application to a folder on your desktop. For some unearthly reason, what used to work flawlessly in 2008 is now generating an error: It stops Publishing, after successfully Building, saying:Error: Copying file ImagesProfile32_32.JPG to objx64ReleasePackagePackageTmpImagesProlfile32_32.JPG failed. Could not find file 'ImagesCelebrityProfileImages32_32.JPG'.The problem is that there isn't any reference to that file in the project code (in the database, yes, but not in the code itself), and we don't want to store such images with the project (and they're not). Why (and how) has it suddenly decided that this unreferenced image (and presumably more if I get it to move past this one) is suddenly necessary to run the project? How can I stop this from happening?

How To Generate An .NET 2.0 Retro Web.config Within Visual Studio 2010

Aug 3, 2010

I'm using VS 2010 Express Edition (VWD) to develop a website project that will be deployed to a Windows 2000 Server (targeting .NET 2.0). BACKGROUND: The website was new, so I chose the 'c# blank website' project template in VS 2010. This (as you may know) gave me an extremely more lean web.config file than VS 2008. I like that for 4.0 development, but I'm going to be deploying it to the testing region tomorrow and I'm getting concerned that all that extra stuff that used to be in the web.config is going to bite me.

Visual Studio 2010 - Apply The Web.config Transformation Before Creating The Installer?

Jun 7, 2010

I am working on an ASP.NET project in Visual Studio .NET 2010 and attempting to make an MSI installer using a Web Setup Project. I added the Primary output from the project (which seems to pull in the relevant dependencies) and the Content Files from the project (which pulls in the Web.config and the .svc files).

The issue is that rather than applying the XDT transform and creating the Web.config using the Web.Release.config, it just copies the Web.config, the Web.Release.config, and the Web.Debug.config into the installer without doing any transformation at all.

How do I get it to apply the Web.config transformation before creating the installer?

Visual Studio :: 2010 1 Click Deploy, Config Transform Options Not Visible?

Feb 18, 2011

I have installed VS2010 ultimate and have read with interest about the new publish options, config transformations but none of them are available. I have tried creating different release versions and cannot see the option, also have no new options for publish, just look like the VS2008 ones.

Is there some service pack or pack that i need to install these or does it sound like a reinstall?

I am facing an amazing problem in ASP.NET. I have a website with many sub directories. The sub directories have aspx and aspx.cs files but do not contain web.config files. I am using the web.config file of the parent directory for storing config items for the respective code files in sub directories. But when i m trying to read the web.config using ConfigurationManager.AppSettings[] with absolutely the correct keys, there's no value being returned. Most amazing fact is, this same code works fine in dev enviroment but not in staging.

C# - Adding A Solution File To 1.1 Application Using Visual Studio 2010?

Nov 30, 2010

I'm trying to migrate an old asp.net 1.1 application to target the new .net 4.0 framework. There are good guides available on this [URL]. However, all approaches start with the assumption that the 1.1 project contains a solution file which one has to open using VS 2010 and go through the conversion wizard.

In my case, the project does not have any solution file, giving me a sort of chicken and egg issue.

Is there a way to add a 1.1 .net soution file with or without VS 2010? Using command line tools? What is so special about a solution file anyway?
