Is there a way to view incoming requests to a local ASP.NET development server? I'm making wcf service calls from a android app to a local development server. Something goes wrong somewhere along the way, and I need to view what data the server recieves.
Edit: The android app is local too... in an emulator.
When I run the application using the Web Developer it works fine. However when I run it using local IIS I get the following error:

I need to monitor my application from incoming http post and get requestf originating from outside and sometimes inside the machine.
Is this possible?
Been using fiddler but this only does outgoing not incoming (from outside the machine) or have I configured it incorrectly?
This is for my web app that is meant to be receiving a POST from an external server.
I have some code that initializes a static singleton class, which is needed by all requests. Therefore I thought I could add it to global.asax Application_Start. Can I be 100% sure that all requests will block while Application_Start is loading to guarantee that all the requests will have access to it?

View 3 RepliesI want to copy a database on a development server to my local server. I am not the server administrator but I have rights to the database. Soon after the wizard Executes the SQL Server Agent Job it fails and the error message says:
The job failed. Check the event log on the destination server for details.
Where do I find this log? Also what could be the problem?
can anyone point me to some differences hosting a website on some remote server VS running it locally on dev environment.The reason why i am asking is, If I run my website locally it works fine no exceptions, runs smooth. Problem: I need to move a local development database to the production server without any of the test data.
I am running SQL Server Express 2008 and SQL Server Management Studio 2008.
To create my ASP.NET Membership 2.0 system I created the DB initialy and ran aspnet_regsql.exe
I then added my own tables manually to store additional information.
I adjusted the web.config file with an application name.
When I ran a sript the application ID name was created and populated in the aspnet_Applications table. My script created a new member created and added to the admin role. Ok so everything go so far.
Now I want to move the local DB to the server. I know the connection string and can change this in the web.config.
My hosting company doesn't provide restore, so I don't think I can backup and restore
Q 1. What would be the best way to move the database across. Bearing in mind I need to clean the database out of test data.
Would it be just generate an SQL Script for the database and run it as a query on the server? And if this is the best way then do I need to set the permissions for the ASPNET user?
Q 2. What is the best way to clear out the data in the local database.?
It somethimes happens that, when I use PrinceXML to convert a webpage to a pdf, the local ASP.NET Development Server stops working...It popups the message "ASP.NET Development Server stops has stopped working"
View 4 RepliesHow can I test an application that I am publishing to a remote provider's IIS7 hosted site, with the VS2008 development server that is built in with VS2008 on an XP Machine?
My membership/roles work perfectly up on the remote host. On ths hosted IIS7 site when I try to access a secure directory it redirects to login, and I am able to login, however when I launch (debug - F5) from VS2008, it will provide that folder/resource, no questions asked. Same build, config, etc... nothing has changed.
I am running XP, and local IIS version installed is 5.1.
My guess is what is happening is that the new format required in the web.config is configured properly for IIS7 deployment, which is why it works remotely, but when running locally through VS2008/XP it is running with an older version on IIS and does not recoginize the new tags.
I am experienced php developer and I have everything setup for design/development/testing etc and I can develop locally on my machine using wamp. My question is, what should I be looking into for setting up a professional local development environment for developing web applications?
View 2 RepliesI have an Azure application that works perfectly on every one of my colleagues machines. On mine, the web application works, but not the azure project, which runs on the local development fabric.
I'm getting a 403 error, which causes a blank page in Chrome. The application_start method gets fired and sets up the routes, but the actual MVC controller never gets called. Again, this works perfect if I run the web application directly. If I use that same azure project and deploy it online, it also works fine.
I've tried repairing visual studio, reinstalling Azure, rebooting, re-fetching source, you name it.
I'm desperate for ideas! What would cause a 403?

I'm getting "Cannot connect to ASP.NET development server" almost every time I stop the ASP.NET server before restarting the project in debug mode. It can take between 15 seconds and 2 minutes to get the error message, and Visual Studio is frozen.
Sometimes I get three in a row, and I have to wait 2 minutes each time, or go into Task Manager and kill to process. Then I have to start Visual Studio 2010 again, which is at least three times slower than Visual Studio 2008 to open.
It's *extremely* annoying. I know I don't have to close the server if the code has changed, but sometimes I simply want to restart my website in debug mode (there is a cache on most web service calls, so this clears the cache). A workaround is to add "foo" code to a class and restart the project.
I'm running Visual Studio 2010 Professional on Windows Server 2008. I'm running the Visual Studio Power Tools too, with the latest update.

View 2 RepliesWe are creating a real estate website. The National Franchise site wants to pass us searchs that fall in out local area. The searches MUST follow this format:
/propertysearch/findpropreties.aspx?q1=this&q2=that&q3=other
The issues is that we have built a site in PHP and buying a windows server and learning aspx seems like overkill for this one script.
So... I think I need to make a redirect, like this:
RewriteRule /propertysearch/findpropreties.aspx$ http://texasmls.com/corpSearch.php [R=301,L,QSA]
But it does not work.

We're running a server in IIS 6 that hosts several web sites and applications, and we're in the process of moving the whole thing to a different data center with a slightly different setup. We've notified our users and updated our DNS info so that theoretically everyone will be happily hitting the new server from day 1, but we know that someone will inevitably fall through the cracks.
The powers that be want a "Listener" page/handler that will receive all requests to the server and log the entire request to a text file, including (especially) POST data.
That's where I'm stuck. I don't know how to implement a single handler that will receive all requests to the server. I vaguely understand IIS 6 redirection options, but they all seem to lose the POST data on the redirect. I also know a little about IIS 6's built-in logging, but it ignores POST data as well.
Is there a simple(ish) way to route all requests to the server so that they all hit a single handler, while maintaining post data?
I am wondering the best way to change my connection string based upon which server I am accessing.
Essentially, all of the development is done on our local machines - once we think it is working, we upload it to our development server. In these 2 instances, I want my application to go off of our "dev" connection string for the SQL database in the web.config.
However, once it is published to our production server (for an internal application), I would like the connection string to point to our live db.

In this class I have a public readonly property ConnectionString() which returns the connection string in the web.config.
