Write Exceptions / Display Some Message Or Want To Forward To Some Other Link Or Page?
Nov 15, 2010
I am making a web application, this is my first application.I want to know when there is not a matching catch block for the exception generated and I don't want to display the exception generated, instead I want to display some message or want to forward to some other link or page, where should I write that message or how should I display this? Please elaborate me on this.
I have what is probably a basic question, but I am rather new to writing exception handling code. I thought I understood the concept, but apparently I don't, heres the code:
[Code]....
If I enter in any non-integer values, the textbox is set to nothing and the label displays the error message. However, now that I have verified the textbox contains an integer, I want to continue on and use that value. The remaining code works fine unless there was an exception, in which case the conversion to an int value for x throws an error.
All the examples I have looked at demos the structure of try-catch-finally, but in this instance I am not performing any clean up, I want to execute code when a valid value is entered into the textbox.
How can I forward a url such as: [URL] to the appropriate page: [URL] Is there some way to do this? I'm using a DNN CMS but if you're unfamiliar with DNN
I have a page that performs a long-running task (10 to 15 seconds) in the page_load method.
I have client-side javascript code that will display a decent "page loading" animated gif to the user.
I am able to invoke the JavaScript method from the code-behind, to display the "page loading" animated gif, however, the long-running task is hanging up the UI such that the animated gif doesn't actually display until after the long-running task is complete, which is the exact opposite of what I want.
To test this out, in my page_load method I make a call to the JavaScript method to display the animated gif. Then, I use Thread.Sleep(10000). What happens is that the animated gif doesn't display until after Thread.Sleep is complete.
if users press the browser's back button to reach the prior page..then page should display a message like "web page expired" in asp.net can i use javascript for this?
for example..
there are 4 pages in web sites. 1,2 and 3 can be back. but when the 4th page run then 4th page can not be back... when the user press browser's back button , diaplay ma message "weg page expired".
I was wondering what will be the method to catch any exception at server end and to show the error message in a div with error icon on top of the page using jquery. All the examples I have browsed show how to display the div on click of some button or link but in my case the scenerio is different. I want to use it for displaying messages to user and make use of Jquery's animations as well.
i am on a report in which i need to show the Total of Current Page in page footer then i want to carry forward this total to Next page's Page Header. How can i do it?
I'm building the standard 3-tier ASP.NET web application but I'm struggling as to where to do certain things - specifically handling exceptions.
I've tried to have a look around on the web for some examples but can't find any which go as far as a whole project showing how everything links together.
In my data-tier I'm connecting to SQL Server and doing some stuff. I know I need to catch exceptions that could be raised as a result but I'm not sure where to do it.
From what I've read I should be doing it in the UI tier but in that case I'm not sure how to ensure that the connection to the database is closed. Is anyone able to clarify how to do this? Also if anyone knows as to where I could find an example 3-tier web application that follows best practices that would be great too.
let's say I have a page with a form on it where a user clicks Submit. This page checks the input fields when the user presses that button. If the fields contain mistakes, the appropriate fields' labels are turned red. That much is easy. Let's say if it's right, I want to POST that form to an external page written in another language. I cannot use any .NET conventions for transferring data, so it must be POST values. The postback attribute would seem to be for this, but I need the forwarding to be conditional. Eg: They're only posted to the external page IF my button handler determines that the values are good.
We have a asp.net application and want to implement logging. The first idea was to use the Application_Error method in the global.asax file.
The problem is that ASP.NET very often seem to throw exceptions internally that are not caused by the application and which seem not to interfer with the users normal workflow. For example we often get HTTPExceptions, UnauthorizedAccessExceptions and others caught in this method, although there is no real error in the application.
I want to display message content when i click on subject without refreshing the page, what controls i should use, it should like inbox mail, when i click subject messages will hide and aontent will display like that i want.shoould i hide the grid and display the content????// or using i frames should i call???which controld i should use, like update panel, and iframes.if i use iframe any problem.
I want to display a confirm/ save message to user when he clicks the this works great. But instead of "are you sure you want to move" type option, I want to give the user the option to save changes now. So I want to call a sub in code behind which saves changes. This sub is currently fired by a seperate "Update" button. So either call the sub or fire a button click event.
Protected Sub gvMyGrid_RowCreated(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewRowEventArgs) Handles gvMyGrid.RowCreated If e.Row.RowType = DataControlRowType.Pager Then Dim pager As Table = TryCast(TryCast(e.Row.Controls(0), TableCell).Controls(0), Table) [code]...
I have an issue that I've spent quite a bit of time trying to solve. I have a Detailsview and a Gridview that I have linked using the ID field, It has now been decided that they want to have individual pages for each Unit. I have this working for the most part, however the detailsview is not being displayed until I hit select the row in the gridview.
How do I get this to automatically display on page load?
I am trying to implement Login/Logout functionality in my website without using inbuilt functionality of Login controls in ASP.NET. In some pages, which require the user to be logged in, I have written this in Page_Load
if (Session["cod"] == null && Session["admin"] == null) { Response.Redirect("You need to Login.aspx"); } if (Session["cod"] != null || Session["admin"] != null) { LinkButton1.Text = "Logout"; } if (Page.IsPostBack == false) { log_bind(); grid1_bind(); grid2_bind(); }
But while I was testing this, I noticed that when I press the Back/Forward button on the browser, these pages are viewable without being logged in. How do I prevent this?

But I can't figure out the way to write back to the same display from code behind. In other words, I need to send a message back to the textbox from code behind. Because I did not defined the tbdisplay to runat="server", I can't see the control tbdisplay. Also, I can't run the tbdisplay at server because the keyboard doesn't work.
