Getting Started With AJAXCT - No Arrow Flag For Extenders?
Sep 1, 2010
I've just began "using" AJAXTC, and since early this morning, I just can't manage to make something.
I followed every dummy tutorials, created a new asp.net website, (I'm in 3.5 fw), added an uodatepanel with all properties right, added references to AjaxControlToolkit.dll, added a ScriptManager, added a ToolkitScriptManager, and even, I still can't get this arrow flag for adding extenders to a Textbox appearing...
I checked, I'm using AJAXToolkit 3.5,

I am having a problem with setting a flag on sucessful completion of a record in a stored proc. I am using following code. stored proc: Update where condition.
if @@RowCount=1
update table
set ItemReviewed=1
where condition.....
select @Count=@@rowcount
here the problem is i do have 2 update statments in a single proc..if one is sucessful then its setting if others failed...I want to check both are sucessful. @count will return the bool to my code where i can move on to the next record. if some testing @@rowcount is not feasible one to use...Itemreviewed is bit field.

I have a button on my gridview that makes visible another gridview nested inside a column. What I want to do is to use the same button to hide it again. I can already make visible my nested gridview, and I know to hide the gridview itself would be the same code again. The problem I have is setting my flag in order to control which branch of my if statement is executed. I tried writing this inside the button event bool flag = false; and then changed it to ture after the gridview is shown, but of course it re sets itself to false again, and the else bit is never reach when you press the button again.
Is there away where I can persist a flag that when the button is pressed one branch of the if statement is reached, and when it is pressed again, the next branch is run? I do want to use JavaScript because the page is already overloaded with it!! I am using a template field with a button set inside it, and thus I wish to use code behind posting back to the server

I have a website that has many pages. Half of the pages need to redirect a user to a specific page. The other half DO NOT need to redirect a user. How can I mark a page as needing / not needing redirection without going into each Page_Load and manually writing my code. I was thinking about creating a MasterPage and creating a virtual property called NeedsRedirection and overriding it in the webpages, but I soon realized that the webpages still do not INHERIT from the master page. Any other suggestions as how to mark a page as needing redirection? Can I do this in the markup to make it easy?

I started up a new 3.5 Asp.Net Website using VS2008.
No Asp.Net Ajax enabled Website or Ajax toolkit enabled templates present.
Ajax Extensions tool set is there.
Added the ajaxtoolkit3.5 controls to the toolbar in its new tab. I'm running asp.net 3.5.
DesignView....
Add scriptmanager to the page.
Add a standard control. I tried each one of the following one at a time: Button, Textbox, Panel.
I drag and extender to the window and (/) can't do!
I cannot drag and drop any extenders to my page.
I add reference to the ajaxtoolkit dll that is the bin directory. Does nothing.
I add a Register declaration on the page. Does nothing.
I didn't touch the code behind. Everything there is default including the using statements.

I have a simple Treeview based on my SiteMap with Security Trimming turned on.
Rather than defining a fixed ExpandedDepth in the Treeview, is it possible to add a property to the SiteMap that indicates which nodes should be expanded?

I have a frame with several radio buttons where the user is supposed to select the "Category" that his Occupation falls into and then unconditionally also specify his occupation.If the user selects "Retired", the requirement is to prefill "Retired" in the "Specify Occupation" text box and to disable it to prevent it from being changed. The Specify Occupation text box should also no longer be a tab stop. If the user selects a radio button other than Retired the Specify Occupation text box should be enabled and once again and the Specify Occupation text box should once again be in the normal tab sequence.
Originally, I was setting and clearing the disabled property on the Specify occupation textbox, then I found out that, upon submitting the form, disabled fields are excluded from the submit and the REQUIRED validator on the Specify Occupation textbox was being raised because the textbox was being blanked out.What is the best way to solve this? My approach below was to mimic a disabled text box by setting/resetting the readonly attribute on the text box and changing the background color to make it appear disabled. (I suppose I should be changing the forecolor instead of teh background color). Nevertheless, my code to make the textbox readonly and to reset it doesn't appear to be working.
function OccupationOnClick(sender) {
debugger;
var optOccupationRetired = document.getElementById("<%= optOccupationRetired.ClientId %>");

I am developing a web application that needs to retrieve, display and write data to an SQL database. I'm trying to use AJAX and Javascripts in order to populate fields, lists and data, and to have button and calendar controls on the page that can update the page without refreshing and losing the data page. Therefore, it's necessary that I find ways to doing as much as possible client-side, without page refreshes.
Now, for security purposes, I've heard that there's a method for retrieving a copy of all relevant data from SQL at loading time, keeping a copy of it, perhaps on a separate page, and send-retrieve-display this data on my page, and then, at Submission time, write this data back to the Server. This is to minimize hits to the Server and to preserve data integrity. I've heard that doing this is called using an Extender, but we can't find examples of how this works so far.

I'm trying to add a modal popup extender to a site I'm working on, which I've done before, but its not working. The markup below is inside an update panel in my site and the function is in the code file. how I can get this to work? I've tried re-downloading the AJAX dll and replacing it but that didn't change anything and some of the controlsare working (like the slideshow extender but not the hovermenu extender or parts of the html editor control, both of which I also need to use) which leads me to believe my web.config is correct.

I am using quite a few AJAX toolkit extenders e.g. RoudnedCorners extender, Watermark extender, etc. in my webpage. The problem is that these extendersadd a lot of script code to my webpage causing performance issue. Also, the presence of these extenders works against search engine as the actual content gets pushed down the page, thereby being risked skipped by search engines.
Is there any way where I can move these AJAX control extenders and/or their generated scripts to a different file ?

I wrote two control extenders that need to be placed always in the same order. Is there any way to make VS always place them in the correct order?
The only solution i found was to place them in a central repository keyed on the target control ID on their init stage - and then have each of them perform its work through that repository rather then directly. but this looks like an overly complex solution for me.

I have the following that changes the label colour according to an update panel:
<asp:UpdatePanelAnimationExtender ID="UpdatePanelAnimationExtender1" runat="server"
Enabled="True" TargetControlID="UpdatePanel1">
<Animations>
<OnUpdating>
<Color
AnimationTarget="lblSearchResults1"
Duration="1"
StartValue="#FFFFFF"
EndValue="#FFFFFF"
Property="style"
PropertyKey="color"/>
</OnUpdating>
<OnUpdated>
<Color
AnimationTarget="lblSearchResults1"
Duration="1"
StartValue="#FFFFFF"
EndValue="#009685"
Property="style"
PropertyKey="color" />
</OnUpdated>
</Animations>
</asp:UpdatePanelAnimationExtender>
Fine. Works a treat.
However, I also have the following on the same page but within a different update panel:
<asp:UpdatePanelAnimationExtender ID="UpdatePanelAnimationExtender1" runat="server"
Enabled="True" TargetControlID="UpdatePanel2">
<Animations>
<OnUpdating>
<Color
AnimationTarget="lblSearchResults2"
Duration="1"
StartValue="#FFFFFF"
EndValue="#FFFFFF"
Property="style"
PropertyKey="color"/>
</OnUpdating>
<OnUpdated>
<Color
AnimationTarget="lblSearchResults2"
Duration="1"
StartValue="#FFFFFF"
EndValue="#009685"
Property="style"
PropertyKey="color" />
</OnUpdated>
</Animations>
</asp:UpdatePanelAnimationExtender>
This also works a treat. However, the update causes the animation/colour change to fire on both labels when either of them fires.
How do, or what do I have to do so that only one label changes colour one at a time i.e. when UpdatePanel1 updates, lblSearch1 changes colour but lblSearch2 stays as is.

I have several buttons on a page, but have assigned some validators and AJAX validator callout extenders to one button in particular. However, the validator callout extenders seem to be firing even if I press a different button. I thought this was the point of setting a TargetControlID (for the valiator callout extender) and a ControlToValidate for the validator itself!

I have never created my own solution before now. I have always modified existing solutions and know how to do it. For some reason, this new solution isn't connecting to my SQL server correctly.
I am using VWD 2008 Express Edition.
I have MSSQL 2008 Developer Edition.
I have used aspnet_regsql.exe to create the tables in my SQL DB.
I have added the following to my webconfig:

But for some reason, when I try to use the Web Site Administration Tool it thinks it is not setup.
What am I missing?
