View 2 RepliesI have an <asp:ListView> but for some reason the LayoutTemplate section does not show when the list is empty, although the <EmptyDataTemplate> section shows. The LayoutTemplate contains the headers for the table, and I want to show an empty table when there are no items in the datasource, not just the content of EmptyDataTemplate.If there is no choice I will copy the LayoutTemplate into EmptyDataTemplate.

Is there any way to enable alternative ListView (LV2) or any other control in case when ListView (LV1) returns no records from DB? I already have emptydatatamplate designed for this case, but I need to enable a new ListView below in this particular case and I don't know how to achieve this!
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to create a table with Listview and one of the fields I'm using is supposed to show a hyperlink to a more detailed view of the data shown, how I want to do that is by using FindControl on the ID of that item and then changing the value into a hyperlink of the detailed view page with a querystring attached, the problem is that I have no idea how to re-insert that data back into the listview field, which looks something like this:
<ItemTemplate>
<td>
<asp:Label ID="ViewLinkLabel" runat="server"
Text='[insert Link Here]' />
</td>
</ItemTemplate>
I'm still an amateur in ASP.net, and if any of this seems too convoluted when there's a much easier to do this that I don't know about.
I have one dropdownlist like this bellow.. the problem is that if I have more than 30 ListItem the list will have 30 elements/rows display and the rest to scroll. Is there a way to show only 10 elements and scroll the rest? I read in some pages that this is not possible. Is that true?
<asp:DropDownList ID="id" runat="server">
<asp:ListItem Text="A" Value="AA" Enabled="true"></asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Text="B" Value="AA" Enabled="true"></asp:ListItem>
.
.
.
<asp:ListItem Text="D" Value="AA" Enabled="true"></asp:ListItem>
</asp:DropDownList>
Basically I want to load a HTML document and using controls such as multiple check boxes which will be programmed to hide, delete or show HTML elements with certain ID's. So I am thinking I would have to set an inline CSS property for visibility to: false on the ones I want to hide or delete them altogether when necessary.
I need this so I don't have to edit my Ebay HTML templates in dreamweaver all the time, where I usually have to scroll around messy code and manually delete or add tags and their respective content. Whereas I just want to create one master template in dreamweaver which has all the variations that my products have, since they are all of the same genre with slight changes here and there and I just need to enable and disable the visibility of these variants as required and copy + paste the final html.
I haven's used Windows Forms before, but tried doing this in WebForms which I do know a bit. I am able to get the result that I want by wrapping any HTML elements in a <asp:PlaceHolder></asp:PlaceHolder> and just setting that place holders visibility to false after the associated checkbox is checked and a postback occurs, finally I add a checkbox/button control that removes all the checkboxes, including itself etc for final html. But this method seems just like too much pain in the ass as I have to add the placeholder tags around everything that I need control over as ordinary html elements do not run at server, also webforms injects a bunch of Javascript and ViewState data so I don't have clean HTML which I can just copy after viewing the page source.
Any tips/code that you can suggest to achieve the desired effect with the least changes required to existing HTML documents? Ideally I would want to load the HTML document in, have a live design preview of it and underneath have a bunch of well labelled checkboxes programmed to hide, delete or show elements with certain ID's.

I'm binding the listview to a collection attached to my nHibernate model object (SearchObject.SearchItems). This collection doesn't have insert or update handling like an object datasource would, so I want to handle the insert/update events manually. Is there a way to get these values to come through automatically, or do I have to manually grab each value from its control when I handle this event?
I have a listview with 5 columns and i will bind the data from database for all these 5 columns. It may have "n" number of rows. But some items may not have values so for the empty cell i need to display some tooltip. How to do this?

I have a gridview and i wanted to add a row when the gridview is empty, so that the header would be shown anyway. I have read about it on the web but i can't quite understand where exactly should i add the row.
My grid is binded by a sqldatasource. I am already adding a second header for the grid (to display some filters, and they need to be shown even if there are no results so that the user can perform another "search"), on rowCreated event, so, where am i supposed to add the row? Which events are fired even if the gridview is empty?

I've got a gridview in which I have a footer that I use to insert rows into the grid. However, if the grid is empty no data is displayed (including the footer). Is there a way to still show the footer row so a user can insert additional rows into the grid despite it starting out as empty?
