Security :: Calling SharePoint Search WebService From AJAX Service Fails With 401
Jul 12, 2010
In IIS I have a virtual directory with only windows authentication enabled. From Javascript I call into a ASMX webservice. From the ASMX webservice I make a call to the SharePoint Search.asmx Webservice. whatever I try I keep getting the followin gerror message:
"The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized"
I use the following code to call the SharePoint webservice
[Code]....
My web.config settings are:
[Code]....
The Sharepoint farm is configured to use NTLM authentication.
Strangely everything works when I am testing in Visual Studio using the builtin webservice, but when I deply to my local IIS or Test Server it breaks.

We have an asp.net web service running on Windows Small Business Server 2008 SP2 (64-bit). It is in its own application pool. We've tried both Integrated and Classic settings for Managed Pipeline Mode. Enable 32-bit Applications is set to True. It is not able to successfully call a vb6 dll method but a Windows Forms app on the same machine can.Two vb6 dlls (A and B) are instantiated. The method in A is passed a reference to B as one of its parameters. That method then calls other methods within itself that also require the reference to B.Those internal method calls in A fail with this vb6 error (the A method logs these errors in the Windows Application event log):
70 (Permission Denied)
Another error is also logged in the Windows System event log:
The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {xxx} to the user NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE SID (S-1-5-20) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.The object in question (a third vb6 component which is an ActiveX EXE) has already been configured using DCOMCNFG (Component Services) with full Launch, Activation, and Access Permissions given to NETWORK SERVICE and even Everyone. Additionally, from Explorer, full control/permissions have been give to all required vb6 components to NETWORK SERVICE (tried Everyone too).
A Windows Forms application on the same machine is able to successfully call the method in A. The same web service works on another machine with a 32-bit OS.Both the web service and the Forms app have been built with Platform Target set to "x86".How can we get the web service call to work on the 64-bit machine?

I have almost the same problem as you have described in [URL] service. I have a asp.net webservice that calls a WCF service. On my development machine this is working fine. But if i deploy my ASP.net Webservice it is not working. Both the ASP Webservice en WCF service needs my cridentials. How did you solved your problem. In the logging of the WCF service I see that my credentials is not passing to WCF.

I am using Asp.Net application for calling an existing Java webservice. Recently the web service is configured with Security certificates. Now I need to call the webservice using "https:URL .." and by passing the credentials i.e. UserId and Password.
When I call the webservice using [URL] I get the below error. Is the change in my code is causing this error?
Error:Client found response content type of 'text/html; charset=iso-8859-1', but expected 'text/xml'. The request failed with the error message: --

I am calling a web service via Javascript. I tried it first in a web page that does not have a Masterpage and it worked perfectly. Then I moved everything over to a web page that does use a Masterpage, and I get a "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object required" on the javascript statement that calls the web service. My javascript statements look like so:

The web service looks like:

I have to invoke SSIS packages from web service in the most secure way. I think that windows authentication will be secure but i am not sure. I do not have much knowledge about how to achieve this and the information on the internet is very distributed.

I've tried a bunch of different examples and still can't get this to work. I have a jQuery GalleryView control I'm using and I simply want to log impressions. I set up a webservice that works, but I can't figure out how to get it to work in javascript. I have verified that the webservice is working as expected.

I have a page that calls a webservice from JavaScript using the approach described in this article: [URL]
This is working fine. The problem is when the page causes a postback before the end of the execution of the webservice's method. When that happens, the succeeded callback method never gets called. Does anyone know if there's a workaround to this?

I have deployed a custom SharePoint Web service on Farm A. I am trying to access this Web service from a SharePoint timer job on Farm B. On Farm B, I am creating Class Library project, packaging it (wsp) and then deploying to GAC. The problem is I'm unable to access the Web Service using the following code. TodaysNewSVC is a service reference
TodaysNewSVC.GetTodaysnewsfromInsite objGetNews = new TodaysNewSVC.GetTodaysnewsfromInsite();
objGetNews.PreAuthenticate = true;
objGetNews.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
objGetNews.Url = "http://insite-dev.portal/_vti_bin/todaysnews.asmx";
DataTable dt2 = objGetNews.getNewsFromInsite(true, true);
//getNewsFromInsite is a WebMethod which returns the DataTable.
Note: Both farms use the same active directory authentication. I have also done the debugging for Timer Job and feature activation and they are working fine. The problem occurs during the call i.e. getNewsFromInsite
The asmx and wsdl files are accessible from Internet Explorer and also from Windows Console application. Here is the code which I use from console application:
GetTodaysnewsfromInsiteSoapClient objWSClient = new GetTodaysnewsfromInsiteSoapClient();
objWSClient.ClientCredentials.Windows.ClientCredential = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials;[code]...

I ultimately need to show countries in one drop down then states/provinces drop down of the previously selected drop down. I'm sure everyone has seen this many times. My page shows the countries but does not show values in the province/states drop down. It's as if the webservice is never run. I've tried removing and adding the ajaxtoolkit reference. The tableadaters run simple working sql code. I'm really at a lose here.

I have an ASP.NET web application and a WCF Application that share the same ASP.NET membership database.
They are both sharing the same ASP.NET membership database.
It is basically like:
WCF: is [URL]
ASP.NET: is [URL]
(both are two virtual folders in the same web application and both are using the same ASP.NET membership database).
The user logs on to the ASP.NET application and can then decide to call the WCF service.
What are my options for setting the security for the call between the ASP.NET and the WCF service that make the call using the credentials supplied by the user when logging to the ASP.NET application?

I have the following scenario. An user uses the desktop application to call our WCF Service which has windows authentication. The WCF Service calls the Office Communication Server (OCS) in order to do some custom work.
When the WCF Service calls OCS we have to pass an instance of NetWorkCredential into the call. I want to pass in the original calling users NetworkCredential object into the OCS call rather than constructing it using a custom username and password. How do I get access to the calling users NetworkCredential object from the WCF service and pass it to the OCS call?

I'm developing a web application using EF4, POCO's, WCF Data Services and the presentation tier (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ajax - NO WebForms). For security I would like using ASP.NET Membership Provider (Authentication Service): from a *.htm file calling the AuthenticationService. I executed aspnet_regsql.exe (to create the necessary database tables) and modified my web.config file:

Using C#
AJAX Toolkit 20229.20185
I have an AJAX auto complete extender that calls a web service to generate a string[] for a textbox. Works great, The issue I am having is that I set the OnClientItemSelected property of the auto complete extender to call a JavaScript function that will intern call another web service to get the remaining data I need based on the item that was selected. (I need this because the auto complete web service only allows for key/value pairs and I need to return 10 columns of data) I cannot get the JS function to call the web service. I keep getting "(Namespace) is undefined" as a JS error. I tried to impliment Microsoft's example located at: [URL] but even if I copy there code line for line in a new project, I still encounter the same error.
Samples.AspNet.WebService.Add(a, b,SucceededCallback); //'Samples' is undefined - runtime If I remove the namespace so that it reads: Add(a, b,SucceededCallback); //Endless loop until you get stack overflow error
Has anyone got MS C# example to work? I saw a lot of people had this line missing in the web service, but I already had it. [System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService]

We have a web application that makes a call to a remotely hosted ASMX service that worked in Server 2003 under IIS6. We are now migrating it to a Server 2008/IIS 7 setup and it doesn't appear that the application makes the call to the remote web service anymore. We ran Wireshark and don't see any traffic to the service URL. It seems to throw a 404 error without trying to connect.
Is there some security policy or restriction in Server 2008 or IIS 7 we need to set to allow an ASP.NET application make a call to a remote web service? We are using Network Service as our application pool user, but also tried using Local System as a troubleshooting step. In addition, the same code works if run from a console application on the server instead of the web application.
Is there some setting under IIS7 or server 2008 that would be causing this?
