.net - IIS Redirect From Specific Outdated URL?

Oct 28, 2010

One of my clients refers people to a certain URL. She prints the URL on physical letters, and the recipients have a few weeks to visit the URL and complete the task. Let's say that the URL she gives is:

[URL]

The problem is that I am switching Content Management Systems so the page she links people to will sit at a different URL. But since she physically prints the URL on letters there needs to be some overlap so people can visit the old URL and be redirected.

Here's where it gets tricky. In the new system the subdomain of www.department-a.domain.com actually forwards to www.domain.com/index/department-a.aspx

Which isn't a folder but an actual page- which makes redirecting tricky. It also means I can't simply recreate the folder structure and use a simple HTML Meta refresh/redirect. Essentially my question is:

Is there anyway in IIS to tell the server that when someone attempts to view the specific and no longer existent URL of "www.department-a.domain.com/folder/important-page.html" to redirect them to another location?

Security :: Redirect To Specific Pages After Log In

Mar 24, 2010

I'm no programmer. I am a student majoring in Business Information Systems. My capstone course requires me to develop a web-enabled database that will allow a company to track their projects. I have set it up this far using the 3.5 dynamic data page. My database is fine, however I need to set it up so that Admins can view the entire site and have the ability to edit, view, and delete items, and where users can only edit projects that they are assigned. Is what I'm looking to do possible?

Security :: How To Redirect To Specific Page Based On User Roles

Sep 12, 2010

I am using Formsauthentication. My situation is as per below:

the login form has codebehind :

protected void LoginButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
TextBox uname = Login1.FindControl("UserName") as TextBox;
TextBox pass = Login1.FindControl("Password") as TextBox;
CheckBox rm = Login1.FindControl("RememberMe") as CheckBox;
Literal fail = Login1.FindControl("Literal1") as Literal;
if (Membership.ValidateUser(uname.Text, pass.Text))

[Code].....

Now the problem is that when I try to login with proper credentials it first redirects to default.aspx( there is no such page in my project), after login again with same credentials it properly redirects to the correct page. Why such problem arises? to fix this?

I'm not sure if this is possible or not, I'm using Roles to limit what pages a user can access based on there assigned Role. My question, is there anyway to redirect the user to a specific web page based on thier role after they login.

For example:

If Bob logs in with Role="Automotive", I want him to be redirected to Auto.aspx.If sue logs in with Role="Clothing", i want her to be redirected to cloths.aspx.

C# - AppSettings Vs ApplicationSettings. AppSettings Outdated?

Feb 28, 2010

I've got some question about two ways to save settings in the web.config.

Appsettings:

Look in web.config
<appSettings>
<add key="key1" value="value1"/>
<add key="key2" value="value2"/>
</appSettings>

Usage in code-behind:

ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["key1"];
ApplicationSettings/ Properties (autogenerated by using the 'properties'-tab in the project)
Look in web.config
<applicationSettings>
<Projectname.Properties.Settings>
<setting name="Testenvironment" serializeAs="String">
<value>True</value>
</setting>
</Projectname.Properties.Settings>
</applicationSettings>

Usage:

Properties.Settings.Default.Testenvironment

So, what the difference between these two storage possibilities of settings in the web.config? As far as I can see, a downside of the appSettings is that you have modify the web.config yourself and the appSettings are not strong tiped, where as the applicationSettings are. Both are replaceable with in a web deployment project.As far as I am concerned, there is no use for appSettings. Am I missing something here? Which is the historically seen older one?

MVC :: How To Show ViewData In Specific ContentPlaceHolder In Specific MasterPage

Feb 1, 2010

This is my Controller Action which takes a Page entity from database and shows it in the Show.aspx view using the "Site.Master" master page:

[Code]....

This is the "Show" view rendering "Page.Title" in the "MainContent" content placeholder:

[Code]....

And this is the "Site.Master"

[Code]....

Using this approach i can show "Page.Title" in Show.aspx using any master page that has a "MainContent" placeholder, but my real goal is if i can when i choose the MasterPage for that particular Page to also see a list of available ContentPlaceHolders and when i choose one to then render "Page.Title" in that particular ContentPlaceHolder.

ADO.NET :: Run Sql Queries For Specific Operation

Mar 22, 2011

In my web application, I need to run a lot of sql queries for a specific operation. For example, first I run a select command , get results. If they fulfill my requirement, I insert some values by insert command, else I update and insert...and so on. I need to execute 8-10 commands for each specific operation. For this , I have created a <asp:Sqldatasource> in aspx page and I run queries by SqlDataSource1.Select, SqlDataSource1.InsertCommand etc. I dont think , its a right approach . Further, I need to preserve data consistency. Say my 5 commands executes successfully and then sql or something else, throws an error and 5 commands left untouched. Then, it will create me a problem. And my current logic will fail, as it works on step by step basis.

C# - Iterating Through A Listview For Specific ID?

Jan 20, 2010

I've got some labels in a listview, 2 per row. One contains a title, the other information. I want to change all the titles when the user presses a button that fires the ListViewSelectEventArgs. I think they have the same ID since they're from the ItemTemplate, so I thought that's how'd I target them. I'm just not sure how I'd step through the listview.

Here's my attempt:

int x = 1;
for( int i = 0 ; i < this.lvSteps.Controls[0].Controls.Count; i++ )
{
if ( this.lvSteps.Controls[0].Controls[i].GetType() == typeof(Label) &&
( this.lvSteps.Controls[0].Controls[i].ID == "lblStepNumber" ||
this.lvSteps.Controls[0].Controls[i].ID == "lblNewStepNumber" ) )
{
Label lbl = this.lvSteps.Controls[0].Controls[i] as Label;
lbl.Text = "Step #" + x;
x++;
}
}
