.net - Get IP Permission In Web Service Publish?
Dec 27, 2010
The customer(telecommunication firm) has a server which we publish asp.net web service codes which we designed for them. We use that server and web service to get data from the customers own web service and give out for client(telephone) to use it.The customer does not allow us to code on the remote server, so we have to work on local computer. The customer has 2 IPs for its own web services. One of them can be reached only from the remote server, this is an internal IP. Second IP is public which I can reach from my local computer. They address the same methods. For security reasons, they divided IPs. Everything is fine while developing on local. But when I need to publish web service to the server, I need to change web service URLs to remote servers internal IP. But the local Visual Studio web reference doesn't change web service URLs because it can't reach to service as it is only permitted to reach from the server. So I cannot get a build and publish my code.

I am working on an ASP.NET web application in Visual Studio 2005. I am using a trace listener to check the values of variables as I test the web application. Every time I publish the web site it overwrites the entire web site so I need to give my log file write permissions for the ASPNET account again. Is there a way to automate this chore as part of the publishing process?

I have a web application which is using IUSR_machineName, anonymous OFF, integrated windows authentication ON which will call a web service. The web service failed to be called if anonymous in web service is turned OFF. I was thinking to assign Credential programmatically from my web application via "DefaultCredential". But how could I know if IUSR_machineName has the permission to call the web service?

I have a webmethod that has three parameters:
public AuthenticationResult Authenticate(Enum type, string userName, string password) But the problem I had is that if a null/invalid enum is entered for the type variable it throws an error message.
So the obvious solution is to use a string/int instead but I am cannot do this as current users already use the existing webmethod.
So i was thinking:
public AuthenticationResult Authenticate(object type, string userName, string password) and handling the casting myself but the problem I had with this is that now my users do not have access to the Enum type.
So my question is can I publish the enum type without having it as a parameter/return value? Allow the client to access the Enum so they can pass it into the method. Would using a method that returned a type that was my enum work? Or is there a way to catch this custom error: (I dont think so as it appears to be on the client end when converting Enum to xml). The error is: (System.InvalidOperationException: There was an error generating the XML document. ---> System.InvalidOperationException: Instance validation error: '45465' is not a valid value for Enum.)

I grant permission to NETWORK SERVICE manually to have access to C:inetpubwwwroot so ASP.NET can do something like reading and writing local files.
Is there a security reason this permission has not been granted by default?

I'm using the Aspnet_regsql.exe for roles in my app. I want to grant someone temporary permission to access some of the pages in this site for a limited amount of time. I would like to grant a user permission for a couple days or so, then revoke these permissions. Or create a user with full permissions that would only last a couple days.
Is there a way to do this?

i like to design a asp.net application(app1) where we can create role and actions. here action is such as create student details and delete student details... this both actions comes underneath to a role1.. so, the application will have some roles with set of actions. This roles and action will be used later in another applications(app2 and app3).
i have designed app1 with single sign on for all the application(app2,app3). when a user enter into app2, he/she will be redirected login page which resides in app1. There user validation will take place. once validated, authentication ticket will be send back to requested application(app2).
Once app2 receive the ticket, it will make another request app1 to get the roles and action belongs to singed user. the app2 should behave based the actions belongs to role.
*A user can have more roles.
how to control the user activities based on the actions?
Is there any framework to achieve this model?

I have deployed my website in ftp server.now i need to upload image to my database and place images in upload folder. while uploading images i'm getting the below error.
Access to the path 'd:hostingmystieproductImagesvaara.jpg' is denied.
Description:
An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details:
System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'd:hostingmysiteproductImagesvaara.jpg' is denied.
ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.
To grant ASP.NET access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.

I develop one application that create folder with special permission.
It works, but when I install the application on server I can't set any permission.
I think because it needs domain admin to set this permission... I've one account of one domain admin but how can I do to impersonate when the application set (try to set...) the permission ?

Don't get me wrong, I don't want anyone to write code for me, I just want to know what I'll need to implement. I'll detail what I need: Ex: Facebook page. If I'm at my profile's page I have one type of view, I can edit all my data, see even not set data and add more information. If I'm visiting a friend's page I can only see what he wants me to and interact with his pages as far as he allowed me.
Ex2: One user posted info on some blog. He and all the people with privileges can edit that info, the other can only read and post comments as their permissions allow. Was I clear enough? I wasn't able to find Google references because I don't know the name of this technique and the keywords I typed didn't take me anywhere.
