We are trying to install VWD 2010 on a windows 2008 server. We already have installed the 2008 version as well as SQL 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2. The Web Platform installer is not installing VWD 2010 however. At first it notified us that the OS does not allow it, after running tons of updates on the OS (some of which failed) it is still not doing it, not even donwloading it. The latest message simply asked us to post the error on the forum

I am working on the migration of the server. Our new server is Windows server 2008 with IIS7.0 I have a great difficulty in browsing the pages hosted in virtual directories. I have followed the proper steps of creating a virtual directories and converting them into applications. But when i try to browsing the pages of the virtual directory, i get the 404 error. Note: The .Net Framework 4.0 is installed on the server and the web applications which i am trying to configure in the virtual directories are developed in Visual Studio 3.0. Even the http://localhost also don't work.

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to SQL, and to be honest it frightens the hell out of me too.
I've been running a version of SQL 2008 Express for sometime, however after getting some free software off Microsoft I updated my version of Visual Studio to professional and then tried to update my Express version of SQL to 2008 R1.
I downloaded it from the MS site and proceeded to work through the pre-installation instructions, however I wasn't offered the opportunity of installing a new instance and was then advised there was nothing to upgrade on the version I had installed.
When I go into SQL management studio I can see the database I used to be able to access but can't expand it. My version of SQL is 10.0.2531.whats happening or how to work around it?

I have Connector/NET working on my windows 2008 web server. We are moving the MySQL DB from localhost on that windows 2008 server to a new Linux server. The tables are copied over. I can connect to them in the cmd line using all the same credentials.
When I try to connect via my ASP.NET application I get the ambiguous Error:
"Unable to initialize provider. Missing or incorrect schema."
All I changed was the server name in:
<add name="LocalMySqlServer" providerName="MySQL.Data.MySqlClient" connectionString="server=MYSERVER; database=MYDATABASE; uid=MYUSERID; password=MYPASSWORD; pooling=false; character set=latin1" />
If I change it back to the old server name, it works again.
Why am I getting this error? Do I need to change something else?

My company is looking to upgrade the web server from Server 2003 to 2008 (along with IIS of course). Currenty the websites are built using ASP.NET 3.5 (and a blog in PHP), is there anything that needs to be done to ensure the sites (forget the blog) still work on the new server? I'll no doubt upgrade the sites over time to use .Net 4 or MVC, but for the moment the transition needs to be almost seamless.

I'm having difficulties with a clean SQL Server 2008 + SP1 (64 bit) install. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with VS2010. The Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 (KB968369) is installed via Windows Update. I installed SQL Server Management Studio (64 bit) via the Microsoft website. When I open SSMS and try to login with Windows Authentication to (local)/localhost/[computername] I get the following error:
[Code]....
I don't understand this because I opened the inbound/outbound ports for 1433/1434. As wel as inbound/outbound exceptions for the programs
%ProgramFiles%Microsoft SQL ServerMSSQL10.SQLEXPRESSMSSQLBinnsqlservr.exe
%ProgramFiles% (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90Sharedsqlbrowser.exe
The configuration manager is configured as follows: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 (KB968369)

Question on installing SQL Server 2008 reporting services.
I have Visual Studio 2008 express edition installed, with the corresponding SQL Server 2008 express edition installed. Is it practical to use SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services with the express edition, or is it just to restrictive with the express edition to be practical? Keep in mind I just need to use it with my local database connection. What type of restrictions will there be, i.e. what can I and what can't I do with express edition? What would be the more ideal setup and what would the costs generally look like?

I'm a long time PHP/MySQL developer.I've always used shared hosting with Apache.I'm used to using a control panel, setting up my ".htaccess", configuring my databases and I begin building websites.I have a major project I need to get started on that has to be built using ASP.NET. It also is going to require, at the very least, a virtual dedicated server for hosting. I have some minor expience with IIS 5.0, I have written basic programs in Visual Basic 6, and I have some experience programming in C++.I have no reason to learn older versions, so I am looking to learn on whatever is the newest version of IIS, Visual Web Developer, and anything else that is required. With my background, what would be the best way to approach this?
So far,I am looking at GoDaddy for Virtual Dedicated hosting, but if I pick them or somebody else, what next?Do I login and install the Visual Web Developer package or will it already be installed? Is the VWD package just for development and is there different software on the server? Will I need to install IIS or will it be installed? Should I learn IIS first or go through the tutorials for VWD?
