My company is looking to upgrade the web server from Server 2003 to 2008 (along with IIS of course). Currenty the websites are built using ASP.NET 3.5 (and a blog in PHP), is there anything that needs to be done to ensure the sites (forget the blog) still work on the new server? I'll no doubt upgrade the sites over time to use .Net 4 or MVC, but for the moment the transition needs to be almost seamless.
View 2 Repliesi am trying to install SQL Server R2 on my windows 2003 server (I downloaded the x64 version) but on the installation directory, just before i click next, to get the error, the path is as follows: C:ProgramFiles(x86)Microsoft Sql Server im not too sure if thats the problem though, just guessing, since i dont know anyother problem, and its a new server. I also tried multiple server restarts and still got the same error.

I just downloaded and installled the Microsoft Windows Azure SDK yesterday for the first time and I am having issues running the application as I all I am getting is 503 errors. I run Windows Server 2008 R2 on my development machine and even tested it on another co-workers 2008 R2 and couldn't even compile the application. He got this error instead "A problem occurred while trying to set the "References" parameter for the IDE's in-process compiler. Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component."
From within my Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V Virtual Windows 7 x86 enviroment, I was able to successfully build and run the Windows Azure SDK and it even showed the base ASP.NET application.So my question is, does the Windows Azure SDK for Visual Studio 2010 w/ Visual Studio 2010 SP 1 installed not work under Microsoft Server 2008 R2?
I am looking at developing using Visual Studio 2010/2008 and SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7. Should I be able to do this on Windows 7 Professional, or do you need Windows 7 Ultimate?

I have built my site using VS.Net 2010 on my XP machine. I would like to deploy it to my server which is a Windows 2003 Server. I have tried to do it with FTP, but it keeps failing with the error that "Front Page Extensions are not installed on the web server". When I check the server the extensions were installed and I also checked IIS and the service for the extension is allowed.

View 1 RepliesI am working on the migration of the server. Our new server is Windows server 2008 with IIS7.0 I have a great difficulty in browsing the pages hosted in virtual directories. I have followed the proper steps of creating a virtual directories and converting them into applications. But when i try to browsing the pages of the virtual directory, i get the 404 error. Note: The .Net Framework 4.0 is installed on the server and the web applications which i am trying to configure in the virtual directories are developed in Visual Studio 3.0. Even the http://localhost also don't work.

We have a web application that makes a call to a remotely hosted ASMX service that worked in Server 2003 under IIS6. We are now migrating it to a Server 2008/IIS 7 setup and it doesn't appear that the application makes the call to the remote web service anymore. We ran Wireshark and don't see any traffic to the service URL. It seems to throw a 404 error without trying to connect.
Is there some security policy or restriction in Server 2008 or IIS 7 we need to set to allow an ASP.NET application make a call to a remote web service? We are using Network Service as our application pool user, but also tried using Local System as a troubleshooting step. In addition, the same code works if run from a console application on the server instead of the web application.
Is there some setting under IIS7 or server 2008 that would be causing this?
Does anyone know of any requirements to get the Ajax Control Toolkit (Calendar Extension in particular) working in this OS? I have it working on my local macjine (VS 2010 Development Server) but it doesn't work when published to my Virtual Server running Windows Server 2008 R2. No errors are reported, just nothing happens when I give focus to the Calendar textbox (no Calendar appears).Anyone know of any configutrations that need to be made in Windows Server 2008 R2?Is there a 32-bit/64-bit issue with the Toolkit?
View 8 RepliesWe are trying to install VWD 2010 on a windows 2008 server. We already have installed the 2008 version as well as SQL 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2. The Web Platform installer is not installing VWD 2010 however.At first it notified us that the OS does not allow it, after running tons of updates on the OS (some of which failed) it is still not doing it, not even donwloading it. The latest message simply asked us to post the error on the forum

I am trying to access a wcf service hosted on a server running on a virtual machine on a windows 2008 R2 hyperv. When i access this service when running my asp.net website through code everything works fine how ever when i deploy the application on the local IIS , in the deployed mode i am getting an securityaccessdeined exception. We're moving an ASP.net 3.5 website from a Windows 2003 server to a Windows 2008 R2 server. We also have a php forum. Are there any issues I should be aware of? Anything that Windows 2008 R2 handles differently that might cause a problem? The website was developed on a computer running XP, in case that makes any difference.
