I'm reading an ASP.NET book that says you can't use Profile if you select Web Application when you start a project. It only run under Web Site.
Are there any alternatives for Web Application? Or do you need to build your own Profile system.
I am using profile services to store some attributes of users registered in the website. Now I am making a display profile page for a user. The problem is that the profile loads easily when I am running the site from VS 2010, but it gives the following error when I run it from IIS7 on my local machine:
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I have added some profile properties to my web.config:

However when I try to access the property in a code behind it does not exist. The following code does not work (says firstname is not a property):
Profile.Gender And In the Asp.net Configuration 'Profile tab ' Is not showing. I have rebuilt the solution. I am using VB.NET(3.5)
I have not been able to save any profile information? All the tutorials seem straightforward but nothing works.

If I am using the default profile provider, why won't this work?
I'm trying to use Profiles so I could get/set FirstName, LastName for users. I have installed the tables (from aspnet_regsql tool, that also installed membership), the web.config looks like this:

The problem is that I have no idea how to get/set FirstName, LastName. I'm reading from Apress book (Beginning ASP.NET 3.5 From Novice to Profesional), they say simply write: Profile.FirstName ..... but when I write Profile intelisence doesn't display, it displays ProfileManager and the like.
I am creating an ASP.NET MVC application. Now I see that it is slow. How can I profile it to see where the problem lies?

Some years ago I worked at a very large project in C++/Java with the a CORBA ORB and we were using Rational Purify/CodeCoverage to instrument, detect memory leaks and discover bottlenecks on server code. From that time I did not have any experience on using tools like that on the .NET platform either working on pure c# or with a web application
Do you use tools?Do you estimate traffic and do calculations on the expected bandwidth needed?
Do you profile differently server code and web page rendering?
What code coverage tool are you using?
I know this is a very big topic. Some information I have are from the book "Performance Analysis for Java WebSites", who is fo the Java platform and reference tools for that platform but ises an approach that is transferable and so the core ideas apply generally.

As we know, WCF application requires .Net3.0 and .Net 3.5 framework. but we have some dealer machine which are having window server 2000 OS now i am not able to install .net 3.5 framework on dealer machine . So we are not able to upgrade old application with new application which are totally based on WCF framework .
View 1 RepliesI had to restructure my database so I could synch the data between the Web and local version of my application, which I had carelessly let run amok. I finally get all the records and schema into one database but now that I've done that, my Profile system isn't working anymore. I noticed that the relationships between aspnet_Users and _Membership (and my "profile additional items table") don't exist anymore. I ran the aspnet_regsql.exe utility and registered the DB, and I'm surprised that the registration didn't re-establish the foreign key relationships, etc.
Anyway, if someone can give me pointers on how to restore these relationships or direct me to a source that explains it (i.e., what the foreign keys should be named, if there are any other aspnet_ tables that need to be linked together), I'm pretty sure this would take care of my problem. And I just noticed that nothing is in the aspnet_Profile table. Should I start all over with a new database or is this one salvageable?
I've been working on this for a while now and nothing has been a bigger pain in asp.net. I'm trying to implement custom profile fields in my visual studio 2008 web application project. I've read a lot of tutorials but they all seem to be either out dated or don't apply to web application projects. Last night I got a little closer to solving the problem when I found the "Web Profile Builder" for web applications. I've successfully set this up and can handle static profile data.I've got my web.config file setup and I can access my custom profile fields by Profile.CustomField. Now I want to figure out how I integrate this with the database and data connection. I know there are two standard ways to handle this, I would like to create new columns in the aspnet_Profile database (rather than the delimited key/value option).I'm pretty new to asp.net and this is my first project with c#, .net, and asp.

I have create the database over there.I am able to connect to the database from [URL] site with specified user name and password. but when i am going to use same information in my connection string in my asp.net web application on local machine it is showing "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. I created a simple web page (asp,net 2.0) and now when i'm trying to run it i got an error: "Unable to start program 'C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe' The requested operation requires elevation"
I have been developing a .net web application for a while now. I had my application installed on a test server and everything was running smoothly. Now that the application is almost ready for deployment to end users, I obtained a brand new web server to host the application. I installed SQL server 2008R2, copied over my database and after a bit of messing about with conection strings and SQL logins, everything seemed to be working fine from debug. When I tried to install my app to the new server, I was prompted that I would need to install .net 4.0 which I then did. Gave the server a reboot and tried to install the app again - this time I got the following error before the install rolled back incomplete...
Could not open key: microsoftsoftwareASP.NET4.0.30319.0 verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personel. I checked IIS and the default application pool was set to net 2.0, I changed this to 4.0 and ran the install again but got the same error. Could anyone offer any advice here as I am under pressure to get this system up and running.

I got the followig task.Create a website (Profile.aspx) in which the User can create and edit his profile.Well, I know how to write in a database, but how do I get the UserName oder the UserID to make a PrimaryKey?If the user is logged in a session will be started. In this session is the UserName but I don't know how to read out the UserName with ASP.NET to make an PrimaryKey. If I would try to read out the UserName with C# I must save it in an variable and give it somehow to my form.
