ADO.NET :: Dynamically Building A Linq To Sql Where Predicate

Sep 13, 2010

I just read this:
http://www.albahari.com/nutshell/predicatebuilder.aspx

I have a couple questions,

1. is that predicateBuilder the only way to do this?

2. will the following code produce 'AND' or 'OR' connecting these?
foreach (string sParam in sParams)
{
query = query.where(item => item.Whatever == sParam);
}
assume query is an IQueryable<t>. This stucture also dynamically builds the where predicate right?

AJAX :: Dynamically Building Linkbuttons To Update A Panel Through PostBackURL's?

Oct 4, 2010

I have a pretty simple C # page that when the page first loads, a bio is diplayed in that center section based upon sql executed from my code behind. I have 4 link buttons on the page that when clicked, fill that center section with other content based upon which link button they clicked (News, Publications, Contact Info, and Presentations). I was all done, then I thought about using an UpdatePanel to get rid of the annoying "flicker" when the page posts back on the click of the link button.

How can i check a parameter value and add onto or remove conditions from my where statement.Here is what i mean.. i have a stored procedure that is being used for returning small set of fields based on a parameter that it is expecting. Since the only difference between the select statements are the last AND condition, i was wondering if i can check that parameter as im doing now but change that AND condition so that i have only 1 select statement instead of 3 within my procedure.Current Example:

C# - Selecting And Building A Control From A Control Library Dynamically, Using The Control Name From A Table?

Feb 1, 2010

I have a custom DDL that lives in my Server control library. Currently I add this control to a table by strongly typing the name of the control, the customary way.

Control_Library.Report_NumberDDL newDDL = new Control_Library.Report_NumberDDL();

What I want to be able to do is dynamically create that control by pulling the control name from a table. So I would have the name of the control in my code, in this case "Report_NumberDDL", and I would like to then create the control without having to strongly type it.

Something like this, though I know this doesn't work:

string controlName = "Report_NumberDDL";

Control_Library."controlName" controlNum1 = new Control_Library."controlName"();

Edit:I tried to do this:

Type type = Type.GetType("Control_Library.Report_NumberDDL");
object control = Activator.CreateInstance(type);

But on the CreateInstance(type) I get a null value exception. So the Type isn't getting created correctly.

DataSource Controls :: Using LINQ Passing The Name Of The Stored Procedure Dynamically?

Feb 23, 2010

I have an application where depending on what the user selects run a different stored procedure.

I am using LINQ and am passing the stored procedure name into a sub that will run the stored procedure and return values that I am loading into a DDL.

For example I want to pass the procedure name "GetProducts_Hats" to the sub and not hardcode it.

Protected Sub LoadParamDropDowns(
ByVal SqlObjToExec
As
String )

I am passing the storedprocedure name in parameter SqlObjToExec

so instead of

values = mydb.GetProducts_Hats

I want to code it to be a variable

values = mydb.SqlObjToExec

But the above code does not work.

ADO.NET :: Dynamically Adding MyColumn LIKE '%@MyParameter%' To The Linq IQueryable Object

Jan 11, 2011

My situation is as follows:

I do some filtering on the IQueryable<MyType> object using the Contains() function in Linq, which in effect adds: MyColumn LIKE '%@MyParameter%' to the linq requestI want to make the function more generic, which could operate on a IQueryable object of an unknown type. In such case I do not know the type yet, therefore I can not add a standard .Contains() function. All I have present are the IQueryable object, the MyColumn and MyParameter as a string text. I need to be able to add "MyColumn LIKE '%@MyParameter%'" to the Linq object, dynamically ...

How can I write a piece of code that would run the Contains() on the IQueryable, knowing the Column name (as string) and the parameter value (as a string too) - I basically want to add this: MyColumn LIKE '%@MyParameter%' to the Linq where clause.

I have found something doing the .Where() function dynamically, but I do not entirely understand what is happening in there, so I struggle to convert it to Contains():

[Code]....

adding dynamic .Contains() to the IQueryable object only using the string column name and the string value

Building DropDown Lists In MVC

Jul 21, 2010

I have an self-referencing entity which maintains a list of like entities that are it's children. What I need to do is build a dropdown that lists all possible parents so when I add or edit a new entity of that type, I can select it's parent (or no parent). The problem lies in the sql. I simply don't know how to word it.

IList<ParentForumModel> parentForums = new List<ParentForumsModel>();
foreach (Forum forum in forumRepository.GetAll())
{
// not sure how to handle this here because it isn't in the correct order. I need them to be grouped by parent and sorted by the sequence field. It also needs to be a flat dataset, not something uses IGroupedQueryable or some such.
}
ForumAddModel model = new ForumAddModel
{
ParentForums = parentForums,
// other properties
}

public IQueryable<Forum> GetAll()
{
return context.Forums.??? // what Linq do I need here?
}

If this simply isn't possible with Linq2Sql, then is there a system where it is possible? Please don't say hnibernate.

Web Forms :: Do Need To Run Compiler.exe After Building The WAP

Mar 10, 2010

I'm having trouble with a WAP (web application project). It builds fine within studio (and it uses a number of other assemblies which build before the web application). However, I've always used aspnet_compiler to publish web sites in the past which is then deployed to the server. So I'm building the WAP solution (including assemblies) then publishing just the website folder and not the assemblies within the solution.1) Do I need to run aspnet_compiler.exe after building the WAP. I guess the WAP build causes the bins to be created correctly but the ASPX pages are still uncompiled?
