ADO.NET :: Joining 2 Tables If Record Doesn't Exist Yet?
Oct 27, 2010
I have a table "assignments" with records that are assigned to multiple "users" by the "department" they belong to. Each user then can have it's own "status" for each assignment.
When the user logs-in i need to show all his assignments and the status.(but status record doesn't exist yet)
When a new assignment is created I don't want to have to create a new record relating the assignment to the user. I want the relationship to be by the department the user belongs to and the department the assignment was assigned to.
Only thing i can think of is when the user logs in to load the assignments that belong to the user's department then look thru all the records. For each record loop thru the status table. If a record exist show the the status. if it doesn't then make default value and when the users clicks to view the assignment a new status record will be added.
Only thing i don't like is looping thru the status records while looping thru all the assignments.
How else can I do it? I don't see how could join the assignments table and the status table if the status record doesn't exist yet.
tables:
[ASSIGNMENTS]
assignmentID
departmentID
assignment
[DEPARTMENT]
departmentID
department
[USERS]
userID
departmentID
user
[STATUS]
userID
assignemntID
status
I have prepared a web project using ASP.net MVC. I want to display data by joining 2 or more tables and on Edit performing updation in 2 or more tables.
I have 2 tables : Employee_master(EmpID,Name,Designation) Employee_Detail(EmpId,Address,Phone,DOB).
I am using ADO.Entity framework to create the model.I want to perform following operations.
1.Applying 1:1 association between the tables. 2.To show the information EmpID,Name,Designation,Address,Phone for all the existing records in tables on View. 3.On Selecting the Edit link want to show EmpID,Name,Designation,Address,Phone for the corresponding EmpId in EditView and then perform updation of the records in 2 tables both in Employee_master,Employee_Detail on Save.
Each table has a primary key assigned. The customers table has an ID column and a CUSTOMER_NAME column with unique index property set to avoid any duplication. How do I insert values in the product_information table that has a foreign key column from the CUSTOMERS table if we insert a value in the CUSTOMER_NAME field of the CUSTOMERS table. I want to know how can I create a join between all the tables so that when I insert values in individual tables they are joined with a serial number column in the PRODUCT_INFORMATION table?
I have been trying to make this work for a while, but I have not been yet able to figure this put. I am using VS 2008 and mysql database. I wrote a query and checked to see if it works in database. It does.
I have a gridview, whose select command is that query. But for some reason, I just get all the rows from one table only. I rechecked my datasource and it is ok. I read on some discussions that it is NOT possible to have data from two tables in a gridview. Is that true? If that is not true, how can I have data from multiple tables in a gridview? Or any other web control for that matter.
I m having one dataset underwhich i have two DataTables ie Contact & Sales Order.In this two table my ContactId field is primary key in both the tables. I cot some code similar to the following code. But when i copy this code two my .net application it me an error saying semicolun expected ,etc as shown bellow.
Error 37 Invalid expression term 'in'
Because of this i m not able to test the code. can any body tell me how can i achive it . I kust want to inner join this two tables & want to store the result in another data table.
when click save button,I want to save the textbox values to database table..If the record is already available then just update that value... I have the code for insert and update..but i don't know how to check the already existing record..I need ,check existing record using only auto generated id
Before a subscription to a newsletter and the record will be inserted, i'd like to check if the record already exist ina sql-server database. This what i've got as dusfar
adres = TxtEmail.Text DBConn.Open() If adres <> "" Then Try DBCmd = New SqlCommand("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM TBL_Subscribers WHERE email = @adres)", DBConn) ''Add DBCmd.Parameters.Add("@Email", SqlDbType.NVarChar).Value = adres DBCmd.ExecuteScalar() DBAdap = New SqlDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM TBL_Subscribers ORDER BY ActivateDate", DBConn) DBAdap.Fill(DS) Catch exp As Exception Response.Write(exp) End Try End if

I am creating a project in which i want to display my web page in full screen & Does not allow the end user to ext the full screen until he/she press the button. I google/bing but i dint get any help full material. Even i use this code
I have Called a Function " GetPhotos" from Designer Page (source). Getphotos() is in Code-behind Page. It runs well When i only Build the Application. But when i Publish the same application using "fixedName and single page Assemblies" option Enable, it Returns an Error
Compiler Error Message: CS0103: The name 'GetPhotos' does not exist in the current context.
public ViewResult Edit(int id) { //get user from id var user = _adminRepository.GetUser(id); return View(user); }
This currently gives me an error on my view page if I attempt to edit an item with an id of 100, when there is no user with an id of 100 in the database. What's the best practice for handling this? Send them to a Create page, or show a friendly error message? Should that redirect functionality be within the controller function?
I'm trying to create a HTTP handler to handle all requests to a folder but I only want it to fire if the files requested don't exist (EG: Request comes in for file X, if X exists I'd like to serve the file, otherwise the handler should deal with it).The files will only be static content, not scripts themselves, which I assume makes it a bit easier but I can't seem to find anything that will do the trick... Anyone have any ideas? I assume it can be done since the IIS7 rewrite module can manage it, but I can't see how...Edit Just to clarify... the handler is the typical case and it is not an error-handling routine but actually delivering appropriate content. I just want the ability to add new files to the folder either as separate things or as overloads to what the handler would deliver.
I have a page that inserts a record to an sql database and I would like to do the following:
(i) Check if a record already exist before trying do an insert
(ii) If a record exist, the page should be able to inform/display a message in a textbox informing the user that the record already exist.
I have seen a number of post on the internet that suggest that one possible solution is to write a sproc and use the T-sql IF EXIST function. However, I have NOT seen a complete code showing (a) how this can be done (b) how to call the sproc from an asp page (c) and MORE IMPORTANTLY how to display a message informing a user that a record already exist i.e. when the record already exist in the database.
I am inserting a record and want to set the value for a foreign key but I am getting an error - I initally thought that it would insert it if it didn't exist but I must be wrong and want to confirm that I need to check all values and make a record for them if they don't exist... here's what I am trying to do - does his make sense?
var newAllPart = new Part(); newAllPart.PartNumber = partNumber; newAllPart.Manufacturer.ManufacturerName = partManufacturer; // error here if the Manufacturer doesn't exists already newAllPart.PartType.PartTypeName = partType; newAllPart.Category.CategoryName = partCategory; newAllPart.DateCreated = DateTime.Now; newAllPart.UserCreated = userCreated; newAllPart.Package.PackageName = partPackage; newAllPart.Statuse.StatusName = partStatus; localDB.Parts.InsertOnSubmit(newAllPart); localDB.SubmitChanges();
I am trying to locally install a CMS for my website. During this installation process, it shows me an error "User or role does not exist in the database. Screenshot of the error: Here's the screenshot of the login properties from Management Studio (Properties of the user Sarin)

And i know my compiler recognizes the Helper class because the 'Helper' is colored in cyan... means is known by the compiler. What am i doing wrong?
I have a PHP website and I am looking to convert it into ASP.NET. So I am learning ASP.NET and I needed a way to upload multiple files to the server. So I ran across this tutorial: [URL] I did everything correct, but I get this error:

I transferred my project into another computer from Win XP to Win 7. After installation, I realized that something in my App_code folder, called like mydata.web.utils namespace, has a class called like WebConstants (which is public class and public functions).
now in areas like global.asax, it tells me "WebConstants does not exist in this context"
Even though I have:
<%@ Import Namespace="mydata.web.utils" %>
And webconstants.cs has:
namespace mydata.web.utils { public class WebConstants { public static String APPLICATION_VERSION = "version"; ........ } }
No syntax errors or compiler errors in webconstants.cs
But everywhere else, it's saying "what is 'web'"??
If I rename the namespace from "web.utils" to just "web", still same problem. If I rename "web.utils" to "wez"--then the compiler errors go away.
But I cannot do this, because then I'd have to change it all over the project, which is a ton of work.
I also notice in the "build output" that there is no App_code being compiled in the project. Maybe because it's an ASP.net folder, I'm not certain. Is that normal?
How is it that the same source code, same visual studio, produces errors in win7 and no errors in the winXP computer?
