Web Forms :: Ignore Content If ContentPlaceHolder Doesn't Exist?
Mar 24, 2011I was wondering if there was any way to ignore content if a contentplaceholder doesn't exist?

Then, in the codebehind I have this code:
[Code]....
This works fine when I display the page. However, when I click the language link which causes a postback the content block does not get added to the placeholder, so I get a null reference because those two panels don't exist. I've been pulling my hair out over this for a few hours now and I can't figure it out. In case it helps, here is my InitializeCutlture method:

I am working on my CMS project based on ASP.Net MVC2, I have implemented my VirtualPathProvider and VirtualFile for my master page, to use a master page in db.
It works as below:
I indicate the MasterPageFile in the aspx/ascx file.
<%@ Page MasterPageFile="/Content.master"
Then override VirtualPathProvider.GetFile to load the master page from db, "/Content.master" is the key to search in the db.
Everything works fine for me, except
IF I click "Build Web Site" in the context menu in VS2010, I will get an error says "The file '/Content.master' does not exist."
My master page is stored in db and this error is normal, Is there a way that VS2010 can ignore this error?
I am looking into the BuildManager relative code, seems complicated.
i copied the html code from an aspx page from the tag <form> all the way down and paste it in the sorce of aspx page that bind with the MasterPage. now on the design view i need to see all the content of the page in the ContentPlaceHolder. it worked for 2 pages but in the thired page as i paste the html code the ContentPlaceHolder didnt reshaped itself to page size in the design its like spred all over the page. i'm working with visual studio 2005 asp.net c#
View 1 RepliesI am searching the internet for possible solution for my problem, I have a page that sets the master page at runtime, my problem is how to create a content (asp:Content) control for each of contentplaceholder (that exists at design-time) in each masterpage?? I am looking at AddContentTemplate, but seems not working...
View 2 RepliesI have a simple web site with two pages. One displays a list of files, and the other streams a file when it's clicked in the list. All was fine in production for 6 months, but now I have to move the site to Windows 2008/IIS7. I have it mostly working, but the files don't open properly (in Firefox) because my content-type header is being ignored. On the production site (IIS6) the headers are (using Fiddler):
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Tue, 09 Feb 2010 16:00:51 GMT
Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0
X-Powered-By: ASP.NET
X-AspNet-Version: 2.0.50727
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="myfile__foo.pdf"
Content-Length: 236841
Cache-Control: no-cache, no-store
Pragma: no-cache
Expires: -1
Content-Type: application/octet-stream
but on the test IIS7 server I get:
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Cache-Control: private
Content-Length: 236841
Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8
Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.5
X-AspNet-Version: 2.0.50727
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="myfile__foo.pdf"
Fiddler also reports a protocol violation and says "Content-length mismatch: Response Header claimed 236841 bytes, but server sent 238378 bytes."
My code looks like this:
[code]....
I currently have three masterpages and content pages in the following hierarchy: One root-level masterpage that displays the final result. Call this "A" Two sibling pages that don't reference each other but contain all the same contentplaceholder elements, just in a different order with different <div>'s surrounding them. Both reference the root-level masterpage. Call these "B1" and "B2". Several content pages that reference one or the other sibling master pages above (not both). Call these "C1" through "C-whatever".
Cn => B1 => A
Cm => B2 => A
This hierarchy works fine. Desired Setup What I want to do is add in a new level to this hierarchy (a new master page) between the content pages and the sibling masterpages. Basically so it's like this: One root-level masterpage that displays the final result. Two sibling pages plus a third sibling. Call it B3 A new middle masterpage that dynamically 'chooses' one of the sibling masterpages. The desired behaviour is to pass through the content given by C directly to Bn without modifying it. The only thing D actively does is choose which Bn. Call this new masterpage D. Several content pages that reference the new middle master page instead of the old siblings. The challenge to this is, I'm working within the confines of a rather complex product and I cannot change the original two sibling masterpages (B1 and B2) or content pages (C) in any meaningful way.
I want:
Cn => D => B1 => A
Cm => D => B2 => A
Ck => D => B3 => A
Essentially, D should "pass through" all it's content to whichever B-level masterpage it chooses. I can't put this logic in the C-level pages. Additional Details All B-level pages have the same content/contentplaceholder tags, just ordered and styled differently. D can be as convoluted as it has to be, so long as it doesn't require modifying C or B. I'm using ASP.Net 2.0
What I'm trying to do is use one master page with two different layouts. Currently we have a "master" master page that has all the common elements and two master pages that use it for the two different layouts. This gives us 3 master pages and there's developer confustion and it is a bit of a hassle to keep them consistent. What I'd like to do instead is say "if there's anything in the MainContent ContentPlaceHolder, show the single column layout, otherwise show the two column layout".
From what I've read you're supposed to be able to do this by using something like the following:
[Code]....
But this.MainContent.Controls.Count retuns zero when the ContentPlaceHolder uses Html.RenderPartial. For example, this works fine:
[Code]....
This causes this.MainContent.Controls.Count to return 1. If I remove MainContent from the view, it returns 0, as expected. However, if I do this:
[Code]....
Then this.MainContent.Controls.Count returns zero.
I am having a dropdown list in the aspx page as
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlItems" runat="server"></asp:DropDownList>
but when i refer the ddlItems in page_load i am getting "Error 1 The name 'ddlItems' does not exist in the current context.
I have a PHP website and I am looking to convert it into ASP.NET. So I am learning ASP.NET and I needed a way to upload multiple files to the server. So I ran across this tutorial: [URL] I did everything correct, but I get this error:

I'm adding now e-mail sending to my application and I have one problem. When user gave a bad e-mail address (that doesn't exist) and I'll send email to that address, that email message will go back to my email account. So for 100 users it will be 100 unwanted messages. In this situations my email account will be full of messages. So: how to avoid that situations and remove automatically incoming messages?

I lifted some nice code to handle memberships, but I want to add a customer specific field. My issue is how to reference my class from the inline c# code.

I have Attendance Table for students and im using stored procedure for add attendance:

0 means absent
DID STDNo L1 L2 L3 L4 L5 L6 L7 Date
1 2334 1 1 1 1 1 1 0 1 12/30/2010
date datatype is nvarchar(50)
stored procedure :
ALTER procedure [dbo].[AddDailyAttendance]
(
@STDNo nvarchar(6),
@L1 int,
@L2 int,
@L3 int,

@L5 int,
@L6 int,

as
insert into Att_AddDaily (STDNo,L1,L2,L3,L4,L5,L6,L7,Date)values(@STDNo,@L1,@L2,@L3,@L4,@L5,@L6,@L7,@Date)
when i add attendance for example : to student number 2334 at the date 12/30/2010 to check if it's exist in table and if it's exists doesnt add it

I currently have this controller function:
public ViewResult Edit(int id)
{
//get user from id
var user = _adminRepository.GetUser(id);
return View(user);
}
This currently gives me an error on my view page if I attempt to edit an item with an id of 100, when there is no user with an id of 100 in the database. What's the best practice for handling this? Send them to a Create page, or show a friendly error message? Should that redirect functionality be within the controller function?
I have a table "assignments" with records that are assigned to multiple "users" by the "department" they belong to. Each user then can have it's own "status" for each assignment.
When the user logs-in i need to show all his assignments and the status.(but status record doesn't exist yet)
When a new assignment is created I don't want to have to create a new record relating the assignment to the user. I want the relationship to be by the department the user belongs to and the department the assignment was assigned to.
Only thing i can think of is when the user logs in to load the assignments that belong to the user's department then look thru all the records. For each record loop thru the status table. If a record exist show the the status. if it doesn't then make default value and when the users clicks to view the assignment a new status record will be added.
Only thing i don't like is looping thru the status records while looping thru all the assignments.
How else can I do it? I don't see how could join the assignments table and the status table if the status record doesn't exist yet.
tables:
[ASSIGNMENTS]
assignmentID
departmentID
assignment
[DEPARTMENT]
departmentID
department
[USERS]
userID
departmentID
user
[STATUS]
userID
assignemntID
status
BTW, I'm using Linq-to-SQL
I'm trying to create a HTTP handler to handle all requests to a folder but I only want it to fire if the files requested don't exist (EG: Request comes in for file X, if X exists I'd like to serve the file, otherwise the handler should deal with it).The files will only be static content, not scripts themselves, which I assume makes it a bit easier but I can't seem to find anything that will do the trick... Anyone have any ideas? I assume it can be done since the IIS7 rewrite module can manage it, but I can't see how...Edit Just to clarify... the handler is the typical case and it is not an error-handling routine but actually delivering appropriate content. I just want the ability to add new files to the folder either as separate things or as overloads to what the handler would deliver.
