AJAX :: After Updating The Gridview, Accessing Individual Rows Does Not Seem To Give Right Row
May 31, 2010
I have a gridview inside an updatepanel.After updating the gridview, accessing the individual rows does not seem to give the right row. For example:
protected void GridView1_RowCommand(object sender, GridViewCommandEventArgs e)
{
GridViewRow row = ((e.CommandSource as Control).NamingContainer as GridViewRow);
Row from the above code gives the values from the gridview before the gridview is refreshed/updated.

I am a new developer and working on a ASP.Net Site, I am using an Update panel which is updateing the data from SQL database after every few seconds, there is some records in the table for the login user. Now I want to generate a Popup, or Alret Message autometically, every time when update panel is updated, My Update panel has SQLDatasource and gridview its working correctly with timer after every 15 seconds.
But When I am Coding under the Timer Tick the Alret massege is not showing. While I need a notification alret also with every trip of update panel if there is something avilable in the data tabel. I am using Code in Timer Tick: ra is getting from function return value if the table has some records. if(ra>1) response.write("<Script> alert ('something')<Script>); but its not working

what is the best way of updating to db only the changed rows using gridview?i have a gridview control that has inline editing and when the user edit the row there are two options "Update" or "Cancel" so user might just click update button without really updating the row...how can i make sure that, user really changed the row?

Having a bit of difficulty working this gridview update problem out - I have managed to get edit/update function working but instead of only updating the current gridview row it is updating the whole table I believe this is due to a missing where statement on my Update statement - to single out the row index of my grid row.When I configure my sql datasource I am using custom statements Here is my update statement
UPDATE SimpData SET store_nbr = @store_nbr, date = @date, data_type = @data_type, acct_1 = @acct_1, amt_1 = @amt_1, acct_2 = @acct_2, amt_2 = @amt_2, acct_3 = @acct_3, amt_3 = @amt_3, cheque_nbr = @cheque_nbr, cheque_amt = @cheque_amt, gst_hst = @gst_hst, qst = @qst, comments = @comments, uploaded = @uploaded

I have 2 gridviews in an update panel that for some reason will not update. There is no data entry, paging, sorting going on, the data is just there to be displayed. I'm using a timer that initiates every 5 minutes to trigger the updatepanel. I also have an updatepanel on an additional page where I am also using a trigger to fire the updatepanel with 2 charts and 1 oneline/column gridview. The 2 charts update just like they are supposed to however the gridview does not. Here is the code for the 2 Gridview aspx page:
[Code]....
Does anyone know the solution to this issue or if Gridviews just don't refresh in UpdatePanels.

I have a very simple application that works almost all the time. I am using an UpdatePanel. My script manager is configured to enable partial rendering. My UpdatePanel is configured for conditional update mode. My asynchronous trigger is a timer that runs every 3 seconds. I track unhandled exceptions in the database. I am not getting any unhandled exceptions. Nor am I getting managed exceptions. Now, I had two users side by side running the application today. I had one record in the data queue. The first user did not get updates; her grid did not update. The second user did get updates. The only difference was that the first user was logged in for a long period of time. The second user logged in just before the test. I reviewed the IIS log file and both users were polling the page every 3 seconds for the same data. So why didn't the first user's grid update? The code follows.
<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" AsyncPostBackTimeout="30" EnablePartialRendering="true"></asp:ScriptManager>
[Code]....
In my code behind I have the following timer logic. [Code]....

I'm trying to update fields in a DataTable. The field I'm trying to edit is a date, I need to format it.
foreach (DataRow row in dt.Rows)
{
string originalRow = row["Departure Date"].ToString(); //displays "01/01/2010 12:00:00 AM"
row["Departure Date"] = DateTime.Parse(row["Departure Date"].ToString()).ToString("MM/dd/yyyy");
string newRow = row["Departure Date"].ToString(); //also displays "01/01/2010 12:00:00 AM"
}
How come this isn't getting updated?

I've been reading and trying to figure out a way for half a day yesterday, and any solutions seems to fit to this. Overview: My solution is building up xml files from different folders on another server. After the xml is built up, I can run a "File Mapping" which will grab the appropriate information from the a specific xml selected with a dropdown and pass it to the asp:repeater. The binding is done on load, reading all the xml elements and passing it to a collection of object that will be bound to the repeater( results.DataSource = listOfObjects; results.DataBind(); )
Now here is the problem. In each row of the table there is columns containing static informations and the last cell of the row is an img button that represent a gray checkmark and that on click should change to green. However, onclick now I only change the data to the xml, and on next "File map" it'll be there. I cannot simply refresh the page, because it takes a fairly long amount of time to refresh because most of the times there is over 350 records to load and above that, you cannot simply refresh page because the page is call through ajax and a refresh will bring you back to the default.aspx. I've already built a function to get the param back through jQuery, however I really have no clue how to bind it to the image. Current line with image:
<a href="JavaScript: // Toggle Status" onclick="PutParam('<%= ProjectId %>', '<%# Eval("TargetUrl") %>', 'IsQAComplete', '<%# ((bool)Eval("IsQAComplete")) ? "False" : "True" %>', '<%= Lang %>', '<%= ProjectName %>'); "><img height="12" width="12" title="Toggle
completion status" src="images/<%# ((bool)Eval("IsQAComplete")) ? "complete" : "incomplete" %>.png" /></a>
IsQAComplete being the bool used used for checkmark which is referring to the listObject. <--- the listObjects Collection remains unchanged Get what the checkbox state should be referring to xml file.
GetParam('<%= ProjectId %>', '<%# Eval("TargetUrl") %>', 'IsQAComplete', '<%= Lang %>', '<%= ProjectName %>');

Maybe this could be a simple questino, but for me it's difficult to do this action: I have a table in sql server 2005 with some records stored, for example 10 records. The primary key of this table, let's call it "Employee", it's a number field with an autoincrement constraint. I want to store more data into the table by using a OdbcDataTable object and OdbcDataAdapter and adding new rows to the datatable and afeter that use the "Update" method from the OdbcDataAdapter object.
The big deal is this: let's suppose that I want a add a new record to the datatable object, using any method or code sequence that you want. if I have 10 records stored on the data base table, when I retrieve this table schema by using the OdbcDataAdapter "Fill" method, I have a copy of the data base table schema in the DataTable object, right?. if I add a new row on the datatable object, it's suppose that the primary key column of that table must AUTO-INCREMENT the value of the key, I mean if the last value that I store on the table was the number 10 on the PK field, when I add a new row on the datatable object, the PK value on the datatable object must be the number 11 if the autoincrement constraint is present into the DataTable object, but in my case, it doesn't work
So, How can I define the conditions or set the c# data objects properties to wor in that way???. In this moment the PK column on the odbcDataTable doesn't auto-increment its value when I add a new row on it.
Please helpe with this.
PD: I have another question about the DataTable object, how many records can store this object?? I have some problems with this because sometimes when I use the Fill() method to get data into the DataTable or a DataSet object there's no problem if the Fill() method retrieves about 142000 records, but when I retrieve over the 145000 records, when I inspect the DataSet or DataTable object by using the debuging mode, they have null value. Any of you can tell me why this situation ocurrs??

I have a table that the user can add rows to through javascript by clicking on a "add rows button". In each row there are two columns one with a dropdown list and the other a text box. The dropdown list is populated with data through a sub on server side code.I need to be able to insert the data from each row into a table but I'm unable to do this. I clicked on my "add rows button" to add several rows and then did a test to see how many rows the table was returning on the server side and it did not include the five rows I added .. only the header row.If there is a better way to allow users to dynamically add rows to a table and then access the dynamically created table on the server then I'm all ears!

I need to expose a Web service which will provide an array/DataTable of 20 rows (average) of data - certainly no more than 100 rows would ever be needed. The largest item in these rows would be a date.The Web service would be called by a separate Web site in order to display these 20 (approx.) rows in a GridView/DataView. I would have to be able to dynamically choose which domain to go to and find the Web service.I would possibly have to secure the Web service with a password but this is not vital (possibly with soap headers over https).
My question is what technologies should I use to create this Web service? I know enough about .asmx Web services to struggle through and get this working, but should I get a book on WCF and learn that instead?I use AJAX and jQuery so am also wondering if I should be using one of those client side, to call the Web service and populate the grid?

But this confirmation bo must be an ajax modal popup extender confirmation box not javascript.
My code for multiple delete:

foreach (GridViewRow row in GridView1.Rows) {
CheckBox cb = (CheckBox)row.FindControl("chk_delete");
if (cb.Checked && cb != null) {
{
modalconfirmbox.show();
int ID_No = Convert.ToInt32(GridView1.DataKeys[row.RowIndex].Value);

I seem to be running into an issue where my Grid-view doesn't display any rows when the number of items is less the page size (in this case 10), I'm using the object data source and at times it can return 1 or 7 for the number of items function call, which cause the grid view to not display anything at all. If I change the page size to 1 or 7 then the results will show.

I have a gridview which right now is getting loaded with four pages of data. There are 50 rows per page. My problem is I need the "select all" button on my page to select 180 rows, not just the 50 on the page. This is my javascript:
Code:
function sel() {
var frm = document.forms[0];
isSelected = !isSelected;
for (var i = 0; i < frm.elements.length; i++) {
var e = frm.elements[i];
if (e.type == 'checkbox' && e.name.indexOf("ckSelected") > -1)
e.checked = isSelected;
}
}
I am more a C# person than javascript, but I am deducing that I need something other than document.forms[0] to represent the entire gridview. Or perhaps, I can't do this in javascript at all. Do I need server code to run and set a session variable, then when the user clicks the button to do something with all his selected rows (it goes to a detail page), query that session variable to see if it's all rows instead of iterating through each gridview row individually to see if the checkbox is checked?
