AJAX :: Consuming Web Services Using SOAP And Tweaking Respone Code?

Jun 25, 2010

I want to write a simple ASP.NET weg page in C# that will consume a web service method using SOAP.How to access a web service if it is on port 443 i.e HTTPS ? If the web method called successfully then it's response status code will be 200, how to return it back the same status code(that we have from web service) from where the page is accessed ?Suppose I have opened the ASP.NET web page ( that consumes the web service method) from the browser and the web servic method is not available / responding then we will have staus code in it's web response in that ASPX web page.My question is how to redirect that status code as status code of the ASPX page that actually calls web method internally, so that it will display some eror message(e,g 404, Page Not found ) directly on the browser.

WCF / ASMX :: Consuming SOAP From PHP That Returns Associative Arrays?

May 3, 2010

I've been trying off and on with no success to get VWD-2008 to (deserialize?) a usable object from a PHP SOAP service that returns a serialized associative array (key/value). Client only, BTW I do not have access to change the service itself.

I DO get a response as an XmlNode[] (sample below). I would just shrug and parse the XML manually (shudder) but since all the elements are named "item", "key", or "value", and then they nest in themselves, this will get really hairy. Especially, since there are a bunch of different functions from this same service that I'd like to use, and almost all of them return an associative array.

If I understand this right, the response doesn't deserialize the associative array The HelloWorld test in the WSDL works fine. From what I gather, the SoapFormatter won't deserialize generics. To be truthful, my understanding of processing data at this level in .Net is sketchy and tenuous at best, but I'll do whatever I have to do to get a workable result from this.

In theory, I should be able to use the XmlSerializer to deserialize to an IDictionary Hashtable or the like, but I'm at a loss as to how I would go about doing that. Do I have to intercept the IDE generated SOAP call? Do I have to hack the WSDL? I've even tried writing a custom class to dump the response into just so I can use it, but I've yet to pull it off, and I've got more than one or two of these to do. I've hit forum after forum and have not found where anyone has give a successful answer to this recurring issue.

The really irritating part is that it is only 3 lines of code in PHP to declare, call, and consume the service to get a usable object and I'm giving myself fits to do it in C#. It CAN'T be THIS hard to do it!

Basic format is the Java Hashtable here:

How To Add Detail Element To SOAP Fault Response That Works For Both SOAP 1.1 And SOAP 1.2

Jul 1, 2010

ASP.Net 2.0 Web Services automatically create both SOAP 1.1 and SOAP 1.2 bindings. Our web service, however, has SOAP extensions and custom exception handling that make the assumption that only the SOAP 1.1 binding is used (for example, the SOAP extension uses the HTTP SOAPAction header to control behavior).

I am looking to correct the code that makes these assumptions and make it work with either SOAP 1.1 or SOAP 1.2 properly. I am running into a bit of a problem in the generation of elements for our SOAP faults.

Consider the following web method implementation:

[Code]....

The SOAP 1.2 response now has the wrong qualified name for the detail element. It should be <soap:Detail>, but instead is merely <detail>, same as the SOAP 1.1 response.

It seems that the ASP.Net 2.0 framework has done quite a bit to transform a SOAPException into the appropriate form for the SOAP version, but neglected to properly handle the detail element. Additionally, they don't seem to have exposed the correct SOAP 1.2 qualified name for the detail element as was done with the SoapException.DetailElementName property.

So, what is the correct way to add a detail element to a SOAP fault response that works for both SOAP 1.1 and SOAP 1.2? Do I need to detect the SOAP version myself and hard-code the SOAP 1.2 qualified name for the detail element?

WCF / ASMX :: Consuming Web Service In A Client Code (JavaScript)?

Mar 29, 2011

Most WCF web service I have developed were consumed in a server side code (by adding a service reference in visual studio or creating a proxy class using svcutil.exe. I have never consumed a web service in a client code. So I apologize if I am using wrong terminology or my question does not make sense. We have a browser add-on or plugin that connect to a device on client computer (think of it as active-x control for internet explorer) inside a asp.net web page. This browser plugin/add-on then will be sending measurement data to the web server. After some research it appears to me that I can do eithera) Develop an AJAX enabled WCF web service and use script manager and javascript to consume it inside the web page that interact with browser pluginb) Develop a WCF web servcice (not sure about AJAX enable) that serialize request and response to JSON, and use JQuery inside asp.net page to consume it.QuestionWhat's difference between approach a) and b)? Which is better in particular scenario I have described.

C# - Tweaking Menu Control Like A Mega Dropdown

Feb 28, 2011

Platform: Website development on ASP.NET 4.0(Webforms) with C#. Situation: My rendered ASP.NET Menu control is horizontal and has three levels of data. And I have set StaticDisplayLevels="1" so that the menu shows Level1 data horizontally and onmouseover of level1, the menu displays the level2 data and onmouseover of level2, the menu displays level3 data.

Requirement: To display level2 and level3 data in a single list, with the children of first level2(if any) get displayed below the first level2 data. Then comes second level2 and its children(if any) and so on. Consider the above image. What i would like to have, is a display like the one on the left. But the ASP.NET Menu control renders it like the image on the right side.

I have searched high and low in the net for a solution. I even tried replacing the markup of the generated asp.net control using Menu's DataBound event and then injecting javascript hack to it. I succeeded in it but it lacks reusability. What I would like to have is a way to implement a re-usable ASP.NET Menu Control with static level2 (and level3) after dynamic level1 which acts like a megadropdown. I am sure that there should be a way and that I am going the wrong way.

AJAX :: ICertificatePolicy And SOAP API Web Service

Jan 21, 2010

AJAX :: Make A SOAP API Request - PayPal Using 3.5?

Jan 20, 2010

This is so frustrating to me. I'm doing this via standard .NET 2.0+ web services (not WCF). My application is in .NET 3.5 but I'm just adding a service reference. I've not done any SOAP WSDL sending before. I've used NVP which to me seems much more error prone and burdensome because you have to create all the wrappers yourself and if any of that third party API changes, it breaks your code. I have not a clue how to make a call using the latest PayPal WSDL. I added the service reference and I see proxy classes such as [className]Request and [className]Response but how do you actually make the CALL and send the request over the wire?

I see people have used the outdated (.NET 1.1) PayPal SDK. We do not want to use an SDK just to send a request. Isn't it much easier nowdays in .NET when using any SOAP API to invoke the request? People for example using PayPal are relying on a caller class from that SDK but again it's way, way outdated. So onto today, .NET 2.0+, I thought that you don't need all that plumbing anymore?

How would I do this? I see no good documentation on the net period on .NET 2.0 or 3.5 web services especially SOAP and it's frustrating. Sure add the service reference, use the WSDL and proxy generated class wrappers but outside this HOW to make a request is impossible to find. I'm seeing legacy ways of doing this in .NET and then I hear this is all done under the covers for you in .NET..I guess that must be .NET 2.0+ ?? Is it as simple as just making the proxy class method calls and .NET under the covers takes care of the plumbing to actually send the request over Http unlike .NET 1.1 where you had to do all the plumbing yourself?

C# - .net Development Code Structure -Controllers, Services, Repositories & Contexts?

Dec 11, 2010

As a new developer I'm getting thoroughly confused by naming and structural conventions for developing c# code using best practice.I appreciate it's perhaps applicable to each domain I am developing for but I've seen the code of many different open source projects and there seems to be a common theme. The successful projects have well thought out structure for maintenance and extensibility. The terms context, service, repository and controllers are used often and I wondered if these are open to interpretation or is there a consensus or convention on what, where or how these get used.

In an e-commerce platform I've seen there are order services, order contexts, customer repositories and product controllers for example. What should they do based on these names? Does a controller do something different to a service? When should you use a context? Is there a convention for namespaces? It's mind boggling when you try and push from a spoon fed newbie developer and try to move on.What software/tools should I really be looking at to develop quality code? Unit Testing, Continous Integration, Resharper, Mocking tools, DOI Containers, nHibernate.

I'm not really aware of blogs/books that will help me push on from being a proficient web developer into someone who can develop extensible, quality and testable code. There are big gaps in authors assumptions. You are either a newbie or a software architect. I want to push from being a junior developer with a long term aim of being a software architect. I realise it's all about patterns and practices but where are the training materials? I work on my own so don't have the opportunity of learning from others.
