I am brand new to ASP.NET - I actually just finished my first week long class on it last week and now I am back at work trying to use what I learned in class.
On the last day of class we were taught how to deploy an ASP Project to our production server using a wizard in Visual Studio and it worked great. Now, in the real world, I have a development environment on my desktop at work that matches exactly the production environment on my production server. If I make a change to the Default.aspx file on my desktop, do I have to deploy it to my production server using the deployment wizard in Visual Studio or can I just copy the Default.aspx file from my desktop to the production server and replace it? I just don't want to mess up the Project Files and I am not sure if I will if I don't move over everything.

cmd.Parameters.Add(New MySqlParameter("@AlbumID", ddlArchive.SelectedValue))
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
fileName = MapPath("~/images/") + txtFileName.Text + ".jpg"
AsyncFileUpload1.SaveAs(fileName)
End Sub

ASP.NET Ajax Library provides some client-side events. For instance:
Sys.Application.add_load(
function(args) {
// handle the end of any asynchronous post-back. Every-time there's
// a server round-trip, this method will be called.
}
);
During the asynchronous post-back I want to retrieve information to the client. This information must be available in some event like the discribed above.
Does the UpdatePanel or the ScriptManager have any server-side way to retrieve data back to client during an asynchronous post-back?

I need to deploy a website from the SVN to different servers all within our own network. The code is currently not complied but probably will be in the future.
First the site would need to be deployed to the development server for the developers to test.
Once the Developer signs off it would be deployed to the staging server for the testers.
Once final sign off was given it would be deployed to a server farm, two live servers.
Each server has a couple of settings in the web.config to that are different; expect the two live server of course. I would like to use templates, the way the Ruby on Rails world does, seems like an elegant solution to multiple web.config files.
I also need to create a list/report of the files that were changed and what the change was since the last deployment.
I thinking of writing a script that will do the following
1. Take args for server to deploy to, and revision
2. Export a copy of the source to a directory with svn export -r <deploy revision>
3. Delete the web.config file
4. Use ttree (a template tool [URL]) to create the correct web.config
5. Create a list of file changes with svn list -r <deploy revision>:<current server revision>
6. Stores the <current server revision> of the website for when the script is run next time
I prefer to use tools that are already available rather than re-invent the wheel. Unfortunately I don't think MSDeploy will do what I need, but I'm happy to use it, or anything else, if it will do what I need it to. Does anyone know of any tools that are up to the task or is the script my only option?

We are using Network Solutions, but we are getting some issues with one of our web applications. It's because we're using UpdatePanels and they don't support AJAX.NET. So does anyone have any hosting providers they can recommend that provide .NET 3.5 framework, AJAX.NET, and AJAX Toolkit hosting?

I've called their tech support 3 times this morning and spent over $50 in long distance and have had no results. I was wondering if anybody here has deployed an ASP.NET website with DomainHut.com's hosting services. I've set up my database on their server correctly, all tables, stored procedures and aspnet schema are there just like on my local machine, and I have changed the connection string to point to the correct server, but when I publish the website using the publisher tool to upload the website to www.mhn.co/mhnprofessionalservices but I'm only getting an 500 Internal server error. They have advised me to set <CustomError Mode="on"/> in the Web.Config file, and I have <Compilation debug="false"/> as well.

But when deployed on a remote hosting server. Its like a nightmare to me :(very often i get object Instance not set to instance of object..... I am ok with the error message, But the same situation should happen locally,

When I run my website on local server asp.net routing works very well, but when I deploy it on a remote server ( asp 4.0 integrated pipeline ) it always returns with 404 error.
My url route is very simple, a stored procedure gets image's id and then displays it.

I am trying to deploy Dundas charts in .aspx to my Godaddy hosting account, but they are not showing up. The Dundas support team said I need to do the following:
If you are not using BinaryStreaming, the ASPNET user must have enough rights to write temporary images on the server's Hard drive.If using Windows 2003, the IIS_WPG user requires Write and Modify permissions.
However, of course the Godaddy support team told me I need a dedicated server to do those things. We are on a tight budget and I have to work with what I have now.

I am building 2 WCF projects. On is server side and the other is AJAX (you can see here the ultimate trouble you have to go through to make it work in another domain: URL....
As we may give the website to an outside developer group I want to be able to have a small log function that will go through server side (because i don't know if the dev's will jst put the user - pass in javascript if they have the option) and write a cookie with a 10 minutes enabled pass and everything else will be in Ajax - Javascript.
To do so I need to have WCF on both forms server WCF web.config and AJAX WCF web.config. (also note that Global_asax is taking place and it may interfere).Can it be blend in web.config somehow. Maybe breaking the web config in multiple pages?
