This question may sound strange and defy all programmer's logic, but I want to know if there is any way I can do AJAX on a website (ASP.NET MVC) without using the extensions provided by Microsoft?
I've done AJAX using PHP w/ jQuery. This is the first time I'll be doing it with ASP .NET, however the requirement is that I cannot use Microsoft's AJAX libraries or jQuery (or basically anything thats easy).point me to any resources that might help me re-invent the wheel?
I am using a ScriptManager control to load search results from server web services. There is a text box and button on the page where the user enters their search terms. When they submit their search there is a Response.Redirect that is called to the search page. I use the ScriptManager's history function to track filtering that the users can do. If you are familiar with this function the URL ends up looking something like this:
[URL]
My problem is that if the users deices to do another search with the text box and button on the search.aspx page, which causes a response.redirect, the query string changes but the hash history stay a part of the URL. This does not make sense to me because from what I understand of the Response.Redirect("someURL") it should act like it is sending you to a new page regardless if it is going to the same page it left.
I'm using asp.net AJAX and history points with the ScriptManager and it works great. My only problem is that when I make non AJAX pages I have come to love url-rewriting with nice "hackable" urls. Without SecureHistoryState my url will look like for example [URL] where "/Home/Frontpage" is the page to show. I have seen on other web-pages with AJAX (maybe not asp.net) that the url will change into for example [URL] which is a lot nicer. Or if I could have[URL]I would be very happy. I don't need the history url to contain anything else than the page path. Is this at all possible with asp.net AJAX?
When we click our back button the page only returns to the previous state (un checking the check boxes one by one after each click). We would like it to go back to the previous page and remember the history of the page.
I downloaded and installed the AjaxControlToolkit.Binary.NET35.zip.I added Accordion, and add Accordion panels. Building the web site always fails. There are several error messages, like, Type 'AjaxControlToolkit.Accordion' does not have a public property named 'AccordionPane'. I checked the web.config file there are two different versions of System.Web.Extensions and System.Web.Extensions.Design.One is version 3.5 and another is 1.0 See the copy followed,
I have a website which contains several ajax enabled pages. I need to maintain state in each page. I have added historypoints in each page. My back button works fine as far as I am on single page. But when I visit different page and then click back button to come to original page, only the last history state for that page is loaded and all other seem to get wiped out. What I mean is, clicking back button again takes me to previous page instead of loading same page again from history point. Is there any way to maintain history points even when I visit different pages
I am using a web service to pass back search results. To do this I am using ToolkitScriptManager with a ServiceReference to my web service and calling the web service up with javascript. The javascript call looks something like this:
If the request is successful the "OnSuccessGetData" function is fired and the results are inserted into a DIV tag. Because the resulting search results can be large I wrote the service to only pass back the first 20 results on the first trip. After that I make calls again to the service to return the next 5 results and continue to do this until all the results are loaded. This all works wonderful. You can see it in action at www.lsbio.com and use the search term "human mouse". My problem is that when the user clicks on a product and then hits the 'Back' button the search results have to be fetched again from the webservice.
Is there a way to keep the search results in the DIV tag to remain as part of the page so when the user navigates away from the search page and uses the 'Back' button to navigate back the search results are still there without having to hit the webservice again?
If I didn't make myself clear enough on what I am trying to do, go ahead and test the site www.lsbio.com, use the search terms human mouse, click on a product and then hit the back button.
Why can I not add ScriptManager control or UpdatePanel to a page in Visual Studio 2010?The drag( or double click) just fails - it seems like there is an incompatibility somewhere?UPDATE:This is 'default' install of 2010 Ultimate on Windows7, create a web application, cannot drag ScriptManager or UpdatePanel to the designer. Typing the declarations works. The cursor changes to the [+] icon when you drag it to the right place but nothing appears to happens on 'drop', briefly the documents name has * appended, this quickly changes back to normal, either is saves or does an undo.I'm assuming something is going wrong so it undos...but what is going wrong?
I have Visual Studio 2010 installed on my dev server and of course AJAX extensions were automatically installed; but now I need to move the feature I have developed to my staging and production boxes. I do not want to install Visual Studio on either of these boxes! I have scoured the google and found broken links to the extensions, links to the old v1 and v2 extensions in other words I cannot find out where to download the extensions and most importantly how to install them on Server 2008 (IIS 7). I have implemented a feature that uses the Script Manager not any of the controls in the toolkit so don't link me to the toolkit unless you can point to documentation that states ScriptManager is included.
1. The link for downloading 2. A link to installation instructions for Server 2008 IIS 7.
the reason i posted this question is that i just added ajax toolkit in my visual studio 2005 and i installed ajax web extension version 1; downloaded from microsoft website named "ASPAJAXExtSetup" but when i added ajax object in my web form i ve gotten this error: "Error 1: Indirect reference is being made to assembly System.Web.Extensions version 3.5.0.0, which contains 'AjaxControlToolkit.CalendarExtender'. This Project references a prior version of System.Web.Extensions version 1.0.61025.0. To use 'AjaxControlToolkit.CalendarExtender', you must replace the reference to System.Web.Extensions with version 3.5.0.0 or higher. C:inetpubwwwrootAJAXEnabledWebSite1Default.aspx 1 1 C:...AJAXEnabledWebSite1"
is there any option to upgrade ajax web extension version 1 to upper without installing visual studio 2008 and .net 3.5? or any other solution?
I am trying to find a textbox control within the tabpanel of a tab container of the source page. I have been searching the forums but have been unable to find the right example. Can someone help me or point me in the right direction. The source page is as follows:
I am attempting to retrofit a web application that had a rudimentary, yet mostly effective navigation infrastructure that, when properly utilized, allowed navigating forward and backward through AJAX states and other pages through the use of additional <asp:Button> objects labeled "Back" to perform special code for restoring previous states. There was an elaborate stack push and pop algorithm for this. The effect was very similar to what is described in Diagram 1 (AStatex refers to an AJAX related state of the page). The reason for this is so that it takes away the reliance on the contrived Back button and so that accidentally hitting the browser's back button or hitting the Backspace key won't cause a loss of state.
How to maintain Accordian history and user navigates to next page and trys to comeback to same page (where the accordian is). Its not actually a different page, but I am using asp multi view and Accordian in a view.
Observing this strange behaviour in Firefox when a history point is added using ScriptManager. Firefox retains the history point in a URL even if Redirect the browser to a new URL.teps to recreate:1. Save the code below as an aspx page in a website and browse to it.2. Click on the "AddHistoryPoint" button. It just adds a history point to the browser URL. (#&&key1=value1 gets added to URL)3. Now click on "Redirect to Google" button. The browser redirects to [URL]) is retained in the URL bar. This happens only in FF (checked in v3.5 and v3.6) browser. This odd behaviour in FF causes lot ot trouble when redirecting to other pages in the same site that change their state based on the state info present in URL.
I wasn't sure where to post this type of question so here you go. The title says it all really I'm using the Microsoft.web.preview dll so that we can provide history support for the Ajax controls used in a .net 2.0 project. This works in IE6 but fails to function correctly in IE8 it appears to add additional history points when you attempt to navigate backwards through history.
Enter the page > Make a change using Ajax (add history point) > press back button you would expect to go back to initial page state but another two history points have been inserted between your initial page request and new your manually added history point. there is no where in the code that is adding these additional history points by accident. Remember it works perfectly under IE6. What are my options do I have to upgrade to 3.5 .net to make use of the history functionality built into the scriptmanager?
I have an ASP.NET project and I want to use some AjaxToolKit Extenders on my pages.
The site is created in VS2010, set to Framework 4.0.
This is what I did:
1) Add reference "AjaxToolKit.dll" to my project.
2) Add to the toolbar the same file for the controls
3) Add "ToolkitScriptManager" to the page source.
This adds the declaration to the source as well.
Right after this I get the following error:
Reference required to assembly 'System.Web.Extensions, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' containing the base class 'System.Web.UI.ScriptManager'. Add one to your project.
I've gone through the process of installing the environment of a large project which I'm involved with, on a new machine with Win7 32bit and Visual Studio 2008.I HAVE to install ASP.NET Ajax Extensions but being so old at it is, it requires .Net Framework 2.0 or 3.0 instaled. The installers of 2.0 or 3.0 will not install and I just get a massage that I need to install them (2.0 or 3.0) through the Windows Components dialog ("Turn Windows features on and of" dialog). This is not possible because the only framework available there is 3.5.1 which is no good for the Ajax Extensions.Removing the 3.5.1 in order to install 2.0 or 3.0 doesn't work either and result in the same massage.Since Microsoft haven't yet come up with some new extension package (as far as know), I'm stuck in a dead end. What do I do?
