The project has a reference added to the 3.0.0.0 version of System.Web.Mvc assembly. When I try to view the page in a browser, I get a HTTP 500 with this message:
BC30007: Reference required to
assembly 'System.Web.Mvc,

containing the base class

What gives? I don't understand why I can use this controller everywhere in our ASP.NET Forms/MVC hybrid application, but not in a view. EDIT: In fact, when I type <% System.Web. into the .aspx view, Mvc doesn't even appear in Intellisense!
but the problem is that when i click on the Perform Link an error will be raised indicating that it can not find the Calculate view.
so how i can enforce my application to call the Calculate controller method to perform the update and to keep the user in the current page .(the index page).
I have just started using MVC. I created the MVC application and was playing around with it.When you call the http://localhost/home/Index/ on the sample MVC application the Index method of the controller home gets invoked and the view Index.aspx is displayed and similarly when we call http://localhost/home/About/ then the About method of the Home controller is invoked and the About.aspx page is displayed
I am having a dropdown server control on view, when the user clicks the submit btn at that time the form gets posted. and a action method in view controller is called with verb=post.
But the problem is that how should i get reference to the dropdown server control in the action method of view controller?
I have a private static field in my Controller class in an MVC web application.
I have a static method in that controller that assigns some value to that static field, I want to apply lock on that static field until some other instance method in the controller uses the value stored in the static field and then releases it.
DETAILS:
I have a controller named BaseController having a static ClientId field as follows and two methods as follows:-
public static string ClientId = ""; static void OnClientConnected(string clientId, ref Dictionary<string, object> list) { list.Add("a", "b"); // I want the ClientId to be locked here, so that it can not be accessed by other requests coming to the server and wait for ClientId to be released:- BaseController.clientId = clientId; } public ActionResult Handler() { if (something) { // use the static ClientId here } // Release the ClientId here, so it can now be used by other web requests coming to the server. return View(); }
I did some research after posting. All I found was simple examples for no-layer architectures, like connecting to a database from your aspx page, so, in a corporate environment, it is unnaceptable.
I need to call a server-side method (using ASP.NET Ajax) in a 3-layer architecture.
For example, my Default.aspx contains a method LoadProducts().
[Code]....
[Code]....
This cannot change. There is no way to convert Business and Data layers to static.
How can I call the LoadProducts() method using ASP.NET Ajax?
How can i transfer control to a controller's method from a controller's method..I am having two Controllers Home and User.. After username and password are verified inHome Controllers method , i want to show the User Controllers index page , so i have to callindex method of Home controller..How can i do it.
I have a simple model where a Person has Gifts. I have a view which is a list of Gifts belonging to one Person.
My problem is with the Create action for a new Gift. I want it to default to the PersonID that we are already viewing the list of Gifts for. I tried simply passing the last PersonID (they are all the same)
Html.ActionLink("Create New", "Create", new { id = Model.Last().PersonID }) which works fine if there is already at least one Gift for that person but if this is the first Gift I don't have a value.
My Gift List controller knows the PersonID I want to pass but the view doesn't.
How do I pass this PersonID from my Gift List controller to my Gift Create controller via the Gift List view? Or is there a better way to do this?
I have an image folder stored at ~/Content/Images/
I am loading these images via
<img src="/Content/Images/Image.png" />
Recently, the images aren't loading and I am getting the following errors in my error log. What's weird is that some images load fine, while others do not load.
what is wrong with my routes? Am I missing an ignore route for the /Content/ folder?
I am also getting the same error for favicon.ico and a bunch of other image files...
<Fatal> -- 3/25/2010 2:32:38 AM -- System.Web.HttpException: The controller for path '/Content/Images/box_bottom.png' could not be found or it does not implement IController. at System.Web.Mvc.DefaultControllerFactory.GetControllerInstance(Type controllerType) at System.Web.Mvc.DefaultControllerFactory.CreateController(RequestContext requestContext, String controllerName) at System.Web.Mvc.MvcHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContextBase httpContext) at System.Web.Mvc.MvcHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext httpContext) at System.Web.Mvc.MvcHandler.System.Web.IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext httpContext) at System.Web.HttpApplication.CallHandlerExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() at System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously)
My current routes look like this:
routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}"); routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" } // Parameter defaults ); routes.MapRoute( "ControllerDefault", // Route name "{controller}/project/{projectid}/{action}/{searchid}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Listen", action = "Index", searchid = "" } // Parameter defaults );
So i have some existing functionality from an older ASP.Net app that is a static class.
Say there's a static method in that class that returns a dataset that I would like to bind to something like a gridview or whatever I can build using MVC3.
I want to access the static variable in my global.ashx file I am using classname.variable name for accessing the variable but the variable name dose not appear.Can someone tell me how to access static varialbe in *.ashx file.
I have textbox that is going to be used for searching. I would like to access the data entered in this textbox in the Controller, so I can filter results in my list. I've found a couple ways to accomplich this, but haven't been successful with any. The way that I like the most is using action method parameters. Here's what I have setup; can someone tell me where I am going wrong or supply a simple example:
I have a SearchDetails view that is basically a textbox:
[Code]....
Here's the search details method from the controller:
[Code]....
Here's the search results method from the controller (where I'm trying to access the data from the textbox):
[Code]....
I added a break on the line with 'test' string and 'txtInvestigator' is null. I've also tried to make these methods GET requests and try to access the textbox value directly with Request.QueryString. It seems like I'm close, but must be missing something fairly obvious. As an aside, I already have a List() method in the controller that lists all the items from a table in my DB so I am making a little progress!
I'm overriding the OnActionExecuting method in a base Controller. When a form gets posted - anywhere, I want to check for a certain form element in this method. In any Controller method I can just include the FormCollection as one of the params in its signature, but if I try that with the OnActionExecuting method I get an error saying that there's no suitable method to override. How can I get past this?
Can i create a partial view and a controller that will feed data to the view, and if i render that partial in a Master page, the Data will show on whatever URL i am?
Or is there another way of showing content from database on every page(view)?
Aplogies if this has been discussed before but I couldn't find an answer.
I'm trying to use jquery/Ajax to access some webmethods in my codebehind. This is fine, but I would in my function like to reference a placeholder (phStory in the code below) on my page and also load a usercontrol into that placeholder.
Unfortunately I get the message: "An object reference is required for the non-static field, method, or property 'TestControls.phStory' " and similar for the usercontrol. Does anyone know how I can still access my placeholder and usercontrol from within this.
It has to be stati as it's a WebMethod but this then throws up these errors.
In a webforms application, it's possible to add a server control to the markup and then access that control from the corresponding code behind file, but I'm not sure of the MVC equivalent of this functionality.
I've been looking at some tutorials, and it appears that in MVC applications, instead of using server controls, the examples are using HTML helpers, such as Html.TextBox, etc.
However, while I can find examples html helpers in views, I can't find any examples of how these helpers are accessed in the controllers, so I've declared an Html.TextBox in my view but don't know how to access its value in the controller when I hit enter.
