Building A Project With MSBuild Which Has Only Class Files Without A Main Method?
Dec 7, 2010I have a project which contains only .vb files. It doesn't include a suitable main() method to detect the entry point?

View 1 RepliesThe Web project we are working on is built against .net 1.1 framework.We would like to automate the build process for this project by using msbuild.However MSBuild only targets 2.0 framework. So how can this be done if we like to use MSBuild or MSBEE(this asks us to convert the web project to new version by opening up in Visual studio IDE)?We cannot convert the project to suit to 2.0 framework

View 1 RepliesI have been asked to do some work on a website. I downloaded all of the files and chose "open website" in Visual Studio. In the picture below you can see the file structure. When I run the project I get some errors such as "could not load type 'AdminSite.Partner.Listing" or "file project/adminmaster.master does not exist'. Now, those files are indeed there. I have noticed that within the Admin folder and the Home folder there are compiled DLLs in the bin folders. Also, there are project files within each of those folders. I've tried opening the project files and the projects only encompass the files within each of the Admin and Home directories respectively. I'm just wondering what the best way is to set up this solution. As I've done so far, by opening it as a web site, why is it not seeing the DLLs in the bin folders when I run it? Do I need to reference them somehow?
View 5 RepliesHow do I compile an ASP.Net MVC project using MSBuild? We use a Continuous Integration server to compile and deploy our applications. To keep things simple I created an MVC 1.0 project in VS2008. I immediately created an MSBuild script file to compile it. I did not change any code in the project. The MSBuild script contained the following target.
<AspNetCompiler
VirtualPath="/"
PhysicalPath="C:Developmentmvc1"
TargetPath="c:publishxxx"
Force="true"
Debug="false"
Updateable="true"
The MVC project sln file is contained in the c:developmentmvc1 directory.I am running XP/Pro.I am receiving an error ASPCONFIG: it is an error to use a section registered as allowDefintion='MachineToApplication' beyond application level.
I removed the authenication mode, membership provider, etc. from the web config file until I finally saw a different error message.I am now receiving an error message saying that the file '/views/shared/site.master' does not exist.
I want to Use MSBUILD to create MSI Files or setup. Can I do it programetically.
View 1 RepliesI was just wondering, let's say I created a Method that is in a partial class in App_Code, and this Method would replace the same type of Method that would otherwise be in many files, and so, since it would be called from many files and would probably be called and used very frequently especially because of this. Would this overload this class? I'm not saying what would most likely happen, I'm just asking if it would be even remotely possible?
View 2 RepliesI've got my Controllers in its own project, my Models in their own projects, and the Main App in ITS own project, which contains the Views folder.
So when I open up my controller cs file and right click on, say for example, the Details action and choose "Add View", it creates a Views folder within my Controllers project, and adds the view there. I want it to add the view into the Views folder in my Main App project. How in the world do I do this?
how i sepuse to run mvc 2 there ?
at the moment im just getting the files from the main folder and placed it on the wwwroot folder (for my domain)
I defined a few display templates for classes and they work well when I put them in views/shared/DisplayTemplates. However after I move them into an area, looks like ASP.NET MVC won't look inside Area to find the templates. How to reference the DisplayTemplates defined in an Area from main project? Is that a good practise?

i have a webapplication project which uses some functionailty from class library project, i am Using VS2010 TCP 4.
so the class library is a reference in this webapplication project,
unfortunatelly, when i build the webapplication, the class decleration has been lost!!!, and the message appear "The type or namespace name 'ClassName' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)" !!! i must delete the class reference from the webapplication and re-refrence it again !!!
but still when every time i build the project the reference decleration removed !!! does that error in VS or what ?
While understanding the basic concept of inheritance in internet, i came across a piece of code.
I've seen many people using public static void main().Why dont they simply use public void main() ??What's the advantage of using static here ?
Public class BaseClass {
Public BaseClass () {
Console.WriteLine ("Base Class Constructor executed");
} Public void Write () {
Console.WriteLine ("Write method in Base Class executed");

I have a post build event that combines my JavaScript files and outputs to Production.js, however if Production.js is not checked out, the build fails. Is it possible to automatically check Production.js out when a project is built? [Edit]If possible using a post-build event, does anyone know how to do this? I am using Visual Studio 2008.
View 3 RepliesI think this may be a question for the architecture forum, but it feels a bit newb to me, so here goes.
I'm trying to write a utility class to use throughout my C# ASP.NET websites. I am having trouble getting intellisense to see the methods in my class. What I'm doing is creating a static class and putting it in a namesapce and with a using directive, importing that class into the code-behind of my web form. But it's not working. I would also like to minimize the visibility of the code i.e. use the least accessible access modifier necessary for use in my util class.

is session state must get destroyed each time we are building our project in web applications? this is really annoying because i have to re-log and get to the page i'm currently working on each time i need to build my project...
View 7 RepliesI'm just getting started with the ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit and got it installed into Visual Studio 2008 without issue.I created a very simple sandbox web app by following several tutorials. Some pages have a single button with a modalpopup event, others are using a calendar extender on a textbox. I've gone through many, including ones that you can interact with and seeworking on the website.Each time, VS builds the web app without issue and deploys and runs. The problem, however, is that "no AJAX happens" when I try to use the app. This has happened on two separate PCs running Windows 7 - one with Pro and another running Ultimate, all 64-bit One machine was also running Visual Studio 2010 beta 2).When I hit a page with some of the toolkit controls, the page renders normally and I see a lot of script references in the generated HTML so something's happening. But take one example:

I've got a web app solution containing a class library project.
Whenever I rebuild the class library and then refresh the page, it takes ages the first time, and is then quick again subsequently.
It's almost as if the newly rebuilt dll is having to 'bed in' to the app.
Im new to ASP.NET. Im trying to develop ecommerce web application and i found dynamic link building class and i dont understand how it works.

private static string BuildAbsolute(string relativeUri)

// get current uri
Uri uri = HttpContext.Current.Request.Url;
// build absolute path

In the content page, I have an ajax accordion pane with couple of panes. Within each of those panes there is 1 user control. Initially all the panes except the first one (AccordionPaneMain) is enabled. The first pane user control contains a form view . In formview itemcommand I am doing some processing and then was trying to enable rest of the panes by calling the function showPanes in the main page by using invoker method. My problem is, the method (showPanes) is getting executed but the panes are not enabled.

I'm left maintaining a proprietary codebase from a third-party vendor. The vendor is still sort of around, but support is limp. The site is ASP.NET.I have made some changes but I am having a really hard time getting IIS to compile these changes in. The bin/ directory has what I believe is a precompiled dll for the core classes. I've changed these but it doesn't recompile. I have tried deleting the dll but then the app refuses to build saying that the Global.asax can't inherit the type anymore, so I don't really know how to rebuild with changes.

View 9 RepliesI have an ObjectDataSource that I want to perform updates using a business entity i.e. Type="Object"). Since the values for the entity are within a user control, I have stored a reference to the control in Session and in the updating event, set the new instance to the value of the entity from the user contol property (which also pulls values from the form viaother properties of the control):
Protected Sub MasterDataSource_Updating(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ObjectDataSourceMethodEventArgs) Handles MasterDataSource.Updating
Dim entity As New Login()
Dim accountControl As AccountInfo = TryCast(Session("AccountCtrl"), AccountInfo)
entity = accountControl.Entity
e.InputParameters.Add("entity", entity)
End Sub
And here's the markup for the datasource:
<asp:ObjectDataSource ID="MasterDataSource" runat="server" EnableCaching="true" CacheDuration="10"
SelectMethod="SelectAll" UpdateMethod="Update" TypeName="Data.DAL.LoginDAL">
</asp:ObjectDataSource>
My question is, how can I get the update method to pass this entity to the update method in my BLL class? It seems the Update method requires an ID or reference to the original object to use in determining whether any changes have taken place, but I don't really want to do this. In other words, I just want to use the Update event on my ObjectDataSource to pass my entity to the method ("Update") I set as a property and then let this business method handle the update of the data. Shown below, is the BLL update method I want to call:
Public Overloads Function Update(ByVal entity As Login)
If entity Is Nothing Then
Throw New ArgumentNullException("entity")
End If
MyBase.Update("UpdateLogin", entity.Username, entity.Password, entity.FirstName, entity.LastName, entity.Role, entity.Region, _
entity.Email, entity.Title, entity.TierID, entity.Street, entity.City, entity.State, entity.Zip, entity.Mobile, entity.Phone, entity.Fax)
End Function
When I try to call this as it stands now, I get an error: ObjectDataSource 'MasterDataSource' could not find a non-generic method 'Update' that has parameters: ID, entity. Previously, I'd set up a long list of parameters of basic data types (string, int, boolean), but this is rather cumbersome and I was hoping to use an entity for this (FYI, I also got the same type of error when I tried this approach, but with the ID as the
last parameter in the list). Perhaps what I'm doing here is atypical to how the ODS is normally used?? Has anyone done something like this successfully?
I have seen some examples on other sites , but since im not familiar enough with DirectoryInfo and Files from the System.IO namespace, i dont know how to change it to fit my needs. So i found a very simple example that works, but i have some questions.
Here is the code i found:

This works great and lists the files in my root directory.
#1 - What i need to know is how to accomplish the same thing but in a format i can control, this code simply displays the files at the top of my page and pushes everything down. So does anyone know of a good and simple tutorial written in C#?
#2 - I also need to be able to setup the code so that certain files within the directories are not displayed, as in the code behind files and other files to be determined by the business.
I have the following page

Currently, only GenericOfflineCommentary's ExtractPageData() is firing. How can I modify this to first run OfflineFactsheetBase's ExtractPageData() and then GenericOfflineCommentary's?
edit: I'm trying to avoid having to call base.ExtractPageData() in every implementor.
