Button Inside Server Control Doesn't Render Onclick="__doPostback"

Nov 11, 2010

I'm developing a Asp.net server control (inherited from DataBoundControl) and I have just one button inside it for now which is created in CreateChildControls override. Even though this button have Click event assigned in rendered page the button don't have onclick event with __doPostback or something similar. Am I missing something?

JQuery :: Firefox Doesn't Render Correctly Inside Modal Dialog

Jan 19, 2011

I have tried searching for the answer but have failed to get any insight into this problem. Look at the following two examples. [URL] (JQuery modal dialog without <input> element) Above pages have very simple JQuery modal dialog, whihc displays correctly in IE, Chrome, Safari and Opera. Unfortunately, Firefox does not display the modal dialog with <input> correctly. It displays the other one correctly. I have tried the following without resolution to this peculiar problem:

- Changed doctype
- Used <table> to enclose <input>
- Used <div> to enclose <input>
- Used all possible CSS display attributes for <input>

C# - Button's OnClick Event Doesn't Fire

Nov 28, 2010

The following code is my ASP.NET page :

<MdsMenu:MenuItem Text="Button" Href="#">
<asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Button 01" OnClick="Button_Click" />
<asp:Button ID="Button2" runat="server" Text="Button 02" OnClick="Button_Click" />
</MdsMenu:MenuItem>

I don't know why Button_Click event doesn't fire!

protected void Button_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Button senderButton = sender as Button;
Label1.Text = senderButton.ID.ToString();
}

MdsMenu:MenuItem is my custom WebControl. If I insert a Button control out of MdsMenu:MenuItem tag it works well but if I inserted it within MdsMenu:MenuItem tag it doesn't fire the concerned method. What's wrong with my code?

C# - Button Onclick Event (in Codebehind) Doesn't Get Triggered In MVC 2

May 4, 2010

I had an MVC 1.0 web application that was in VS 2008; I just upgraded the project to VS 2010 which automatically upgraded MVC to 2.0. I have a bunch of viewpages have codebehind files that were manually added. The project worked fine before the upgrade, but now the onclick even't don't get triggered. I.e. I have an asp:button with an onclick event that points to a method in the codebehind. When you click the button, the onclick event doesn't get triggered. In fact, when you look at the Page variable, IsPostBack is false.

This is really bizarre and I'm wondering if anyone know what happened and how to fix it. I'm thinking it has something to do with the changes in MVC 2.0; but I'm not sure. (deleting the codebehinds and moving that to the controller is not really an option since there is so many pages, moving back to vs 2008 is a last resort as I want to make use of some of the VS 2010 features like performance testing.)

C# - HTML Button's OnClick Property Inside (.cs)

I will not use ASP.NET button here, and that I will not put my Login_Click() event inside .html/.aspx so I can't 'expose' my codes.

Button Click Doesn't Call Function Even When Button Attribute OnClick Is Set To That Function

Mar 19, 2010

I have an aspx page with two buttons, one of the buttons has an OnClick attribute to a function that should be run when clicked. When the other button is clicked there is an if statement checking if the page is a postback, if it is then I run some statements that need to be run when that button is clicked. That postback button works fine. However, the other button, when it's clicked the function it's supposed to call never executes, and the statements inside if (Page.IsPostBack) get executed instead. What can I do to fix this? Is there a way to make the button that calls a function not do a Post back?

Chart Control Too Slow Or Doesn't Render

On the QA server, the charts load pretty slowly and sometimes one or both of them doesn't even load. I am loading the charts using the codebehind tag. Is there anything else that could be done to make these charts run faster? Note: I was previously using dotNETCHARTING and never had any issues with it. Nothing else has changed except for the charting engine.

Server Controls Inside Asp:wizard, Doesnt Render Jscript If Step Is Not First?

Sep 30, 2010

I'm trying to use a server control inside a template wizard step, when I drop such server control in the first step of the wizard everything goes ok. When I insert even a blank step previous to the step which contains the server control, the javasript code of the server control is not rendered at all, the page doesn't fail during load but until I go with mouse over an item of the grid for instance.When I check the rendered HTML I can see no HTML, nor javascript events of this server control where rendered, neither the implementation nor calls to javascript, but even rarer what is there visible in the grid for ie, even the other components of the server control, are not in the "view source code" content. I seems it was sent to the client, even showed, but truncated in some phase..The server control consists of a gridview with custom navigation&information capabilities and javascript functions to highlight the selected grid items or highlight when mouse over event occurs.. Render - Server Control Emitting Server Side Tags?

Feb 19, 2010

I'm new to writing custom ASP.NET server controls, and I'm encountering the following issue:

I have a control that inherits from System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlGenericControl. I override the control's Render method, use the HtmlTextWriter to emit some custom HTML (basically a TD tag with some custom attributes), and then call the case class' Render method.

Using the control:

<dc:Header id="header1" runat="Server" DataColumn="MemberNumber" Width="30%">Member Number</dc:Header >

The problem is that when I view my rendered HTML, the server tag is emitted to the client as well (right after the TD tag):

<dc:Header id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder_testData1_testData1_header1">Member Number</dc:Header>

How do I prevent this from happening?

Again if i add with return false it is giving me it calling only once page load on click

OnClientClick="__doPostBack('Button1','');return false;"/>

and return true is giving me again twice page load ,but adding return true or false in attribute.add code is giving the same result ,only one page load call.

Web Form Render Engine Outputs A Control Tree / Looking For Info On Render Logic.

Feb 12, 2011

I've been watching a video on Scott Hanselmnn teaching MVC 2 tricks/tips. He mentions how MVC 2 by default uses ASP.NET Web Forms view engine to render the output of the views; he mentions that the web forms view engine is a little slower than it could be for MVC 2 since it generates a control tree and then outputs the HTML to the page (I hope I said that right).

I was wondering what he meant by web forms generating a code tree before outputting the HTML to the page. Does anyone have insight on the view engine of Web forms and the steps of the rendering process works for ASP.NET and MVC2?

Custom Server Controls :: Rendering Controls Via Loop Inside Render

Nov 11, 2010

I am creatin a server control where some controls are being rendered inside `protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer)`

writer.AddAttribute(HtmlTextWriterAttribute.Type, "button");
writer.AddAttribute(HtmlTextWriterAttribute.Id, this.UniqueID + "butto_Foo1");
writer.AddAttribute(HtmlTextWriterAttribute.Value, "Button1");
writer.RenderBeginTag(HtmlTextWriterTag.Input);
writer.RenderEndTag(); //button
writer.AddAttribute(HtmlTextWriterAttribute.Type, "button");
writer.AddAttribute(HtmlTextWriterAttribute.Id, this.UniqueID + "butto_Foo2");
writer.AddAttribute(HtmlTextWriterAttribute.Value, "Button2");
writer.RenderBeginTag(HtmlTextWriterTag.Input);
writer.RenderEndTag(); //button

This way buttons are rendered on design view as well. The problem is that number of buttons to render is dynamic based on data in xml file (even if the data was static, the number of button is about 12 and I don't think it is wise to copy paste the same code above 6 times...). I thought by using loop for that:

int i = 1;
foreach (Button button in tb.Items)
{
writer.AddAttribute(HtmlTextWriterAttribute.Type, "button");
writer.AddAttribute(HtmlTextWriterAttribute.Id, this.UniqueID + "butto_Foo" + i);
writer.AddAttribute(HtmlTextWriterAttribute.Value, button.ButtonValue);
writer.RenderBeginTag(HtmlTextWriterTag.Input);
writer.RenderEndTag(); //button
i++;
}

tb is defined in OnLoad; On run time it works, but on design time I get error: > Error rendering control. And control is not being rendered.

VS 2008 - How To Suppress Server Control Event (onclick)

Feb 18, 2012

I have a simple form with a button. The button is server control.

in the OnClientclick event of the button control, I am actually doing some validations. If the validation fails, the onclick event should not be executed. How can I control this?

In the code below, PerformChecks() function gets fired first and alert message pops up fine. But immediately onclick event (which is handled on the server) gets triggered. if the check in PerformChecks fail, how can I suppress onclick event?

Code:
<asp:Button ID="ButtonRun" runat="server" Text="Go"
onclick="ButtonRun_Click" OnClientClick="PerformChecks();" Width="57px" />
function PerformChecks() {
var checkboxCollection = document.getElementById('<%=CheckBoxListInstruments.ClientID %>').getElementsByTagName('input');

[Code] ....
