Configuration :: FileIOException When Accessing Local File?
May 11, 2010
I am attempting to write an assembly that is hosted by a Web page on IIS. Everything works until I try to read a file from the file system, when I get the following error:
User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.0; WOW64; Trident/4.0; GTB6.4; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; InfoPath.2; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729)
Timestamp: Tue, 11 May 2010 20:10:22 UTC
Message: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.
So...I tried the example program found here, which has a similar use:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.security.allowpartiallytrustedcallersattribute.aspx
I compiled and published the application, but all I get is a page with a big rectangle and a little icon in the upper left corner, with no error messages. This is the same behavior I get in my own application when I give it a strong name key. (Without the strong name key, it runs properly, but gets the exception above.)

There is a hyperlink to a local file...for instance....C:/text.txt. This is not possible, because ASP.net does not allow links to local files. But, links to files on network drives such as W:/test.txt are working ok. how does the browser know which drive letter is local,and which is networked? How does it know that C: is local or D: is local etc, and that W: is a network drive?

In our application, we allow user to upload documents which can be PDF, Doc, XLS, TXT. Uploaded documents will be saved on web server. We need to display link for each document user uploaded and when user click on that link, it should open relevant document. it is expected to have required software to open relevant documents.
To upload document, we use saveAs method of FileUpload control and it works absolutely fine.Now, how to view it?I believe, i need to copy/download file to local user machine and need to open it using Process.Start.For that i need to find user local temp directory. if i put path.GetTempPath(), it gives me web server directory and copy file there.
File.Copy(
sPath + dataReader["url"].ToString(),
Path.GetTempPath() + dataReader["url"].ToString(),
true);

I recently got abused on these forums because I was testing with the cassini in my development environment. So now I use local iis via the settting in the properties --> web tab and then creating a virtual directory.
The problem now is that the url is:
http://Localhost/Website
The problem is that http://Localhost/ is still the root - so its gone and broke all my css and JQuery ajax calls.
I've tried playing with application root setting in the properties tab with no luck. I have been querying the interwebs and realise that I need to do something in IIS -

I've made a small web site (MVC2, VS 2010) with some image gallery functionality. When testing locally the images download very very slowly, as if I had dial up internet connection. For example if I try
http://my_local_website/myimage.jpg it will be slow. However, if I try (via web browser) C:mywebsite_foldermyimage.jpg it will load instantly.Not sure if this is an issue of my local IIS7 or what, but I would like to fix it before going live.

I have upgraded my laptop to Windows7, VS2010, .net Framework 4 and then upgraded my ASP.NET Web Application to ASP.NET 4.I am now getting the error: The type or namespace name 'Linq' does not exist in the namespace 'System' (are you missing an assembly reference?). This error occurs in a local web service thatI have written and was working before I upgraded my system.I think this has something to do with the changes made to the web.config file when my web application was upgraded to the .net 4 Framework.I have searched the forums and Goggle, but cannot solve my issue.

I have a dll which is in the bin folder (version 1.0.6125.0 ) and in GAC version of the dll is 3.5.0.0. Both the assemblies are strongly named microsoft dll's .
Now I want the dotnet CLR to search in the GAC instead of in local bin folder.. I know the solution to the problem would be to delete the dll from the bin directory and automatically application will search for dll in GAC, but in my case, I cannot delete the .dll file in bin directory, since we do not have control over the PRODUCTION servers.
I get the following error
The type 'System.Web.UI.ScriptManager' is ambiguous: it could come from assembly C:inetpubwwwrootAppNAMEinMyDll.DLL or from assembly 'C:WINNTassemblyGAC_MSILMyDLL3.5.0.0__31bf3856ad364e35MyDll.DLL'. Please specify the assembly explicitly in the type name.

There's a project I'm doing now which is an ASP.net 2.0 written website with SQL database. (it was just assigned to me for deployment and no contact to programmer who is AWOL :-)
Scope of project is to move everything from live site to local server and display/execute exactly the way it does on the livesite (web).
Already configured Windows 2003 server as IIS and successfully restored the database through SQL 2008.
Since I am new to ASP.net deployment this is where my trouble starts: manually copied httpdocs folder to local server, copy website through MS web developer and tried to run it on local machine http://127.0.x.x/default.aspx for the home page. from there I am getting a server error log specifically the line " <configuration xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/.NetConfiguration/v2.0">"
I know I have some work to do in here I do want to call the attention of ghw123 since he
is familiar with the dynamics of IIS and moving websites. Another thing I would like to point is the local server doesn't display any IP address when running ipconfig or ping from command prompt i simply pull out the ip info from the running IIS service itself. Lastly, I need to figure out which file/folders are really running on the livesite since there are lots of them (for other purpose maybe) on the remote server it is hosted.

With the project I'm working right now, the team and I don't believe the network/computer policies will allow us to create and save Excel files on a local machine through the Web pages we're building. Well, let me clarify. When we run our web pages on our development machines, when we go to save information to excel through the web page, it uses our local excel executable. However, we want it to use the web server's excel executable. When we run the website, we're running individual local copies because we don't have a web server to test on, so we can't verify if it will use the Web Server's or ours. Does anyone know what it will do, or if it has to be programmatically set a specific way to use excel on the web server, and not on the local machine. Once we get the Web Server to use excel, we'd save the file to a network share that would allow the user to view the file.

I want to access one image file residing in C: of the client's machine. I know with the help of file upload control (or say input type=file), this would be easy. Due to nature of my application (Its a KIOSK application), user is not expected to select file. I am just wondering how should I implement reading file without using file upload control. I want to store this file in Images folder of server. I am beginner to WCF. Should I look towards WCF?

I have VWD 2010 Express installed. While developing I would like my co-workers to test the application (the parts that are "finished"). When I click "View in browser" for some web form of my application or "Start debugging" the app is shown in my browser at:
http://localhost:3424/Default.aspx
My IP on local network is 192.168.1.14. How can my co-workers access this page?
Note: I do not have IIS instaled (just ASP.NET Development Server).

i developed an asp.net web site and i used ModuleRewriter to rename my pages you can refer to this link [URL] and i want to add many pages programatically at run time for example i have a page named :
[URL]styles/defaultstyle/Default.aspx
and i want to display this page like this :
[URL]Default.aspx
so my code was like this :
public static void confgrewriter()
{
try
{
RewriterRuleCollection rules = RewriterConfiguration.GetConfig().Rules;
RewriterRule r = new RewriterRule();
r.LookFor ="~/Dfealut.aspx" ;
r.SendTo ="~/styles/defaultstyle/Default.aspx";
rules.Add(r);
}
catch (Exception ex)
{ }
}
and this solution is working very good on iis at my local machine but when i did upload this website on shared host i recive error message: The resource cannot be found.
Description:
HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
