Configuration :: Precompile Errors Unable To Publish
Jul 2, 2010
I have a webapplication designed in asp.net 2.0 which works fine since years.Recently we wanted to protect the source code so we tried to precompile the site using publish method. Unfortunately it showed hundreds of errors and the build failed. then i created a test site with only two pages and no other controls except a button and a label control in them which show server time and navigates to each other using response.redirect whenever the button is clicked.

I am using the Standard edition of VS2008 to develop a website locally. Now, I am ready to upload the website to a remote server, but I cannot find any output to transfer. I clicked on the "Build Web Site" option of the "Build" drop-down list and got a "Build Succeeded" message, but nothing else.
I only found a file of type "Visual Studio Solution user Options". It was in a folder under a "Projects" folder within the "Visual Studio 2008" subdirectory. Does that one file contain everything needed for the website to function on the remote server?
I also found another folder along with the file named "PrecompiledWeb". This folder contained web page files and related static files of a previous precompile operation, but no newer files. There was also a "bin" folder with old compiled files and application extension files. I cannot find newly compiled files anywhere. What am I doing wrong?

have a web application that in build has no errors and it works fine.i have precompiled it sucessfully several times before.but now after some changes when i am precompiling it, the precompiled files are not created and a warning is shown at the command prompt several times.the warning is:BC42328:The 'AddressOf' expression has no effect in this context because the method argument to 'AddressOf' requires a relaxed conversion to the delegate type of the event. Assign the 'AddressOf' expression to a variable, and use the variable to add or remove the method as the handler

At the moment, I've been pre-compiling using the aspnet_compiler with the -u switch but not -i. However I've noticed that if I've done a build in development since, even if I'm only promoting a flat aspx page to live, it looks for the revelant compilation *.dll which is not there. For my website, my ideal is that:
* I can update the aspx pages in terms of layout (like with asp.net 1.1)
* If code changes, I only need to deploy the updated aspx pages and the new compiled dll (like with asp.net 1.1), rather than the whole site again (generally I'm adding / improving features rather than whole re-write, and I don't want excessive downtime - also I don't have access to the live IIS)
* I'd rather not place the aspx.vb files on the live web server

After I installed the .net framework 3.5 to my iis box (which didn't have any previous version of .net fraemwork), I'm not long able to upload the aspx page via WebDav with MS Expression Web. I got the "HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden " error message.
Also I got this error "Server Application Unavailable" when trying to open the aspx page. my iis box is not a domain controller nor a backup domain controller.
I have enabled the webservices extention - "ASP.NET v2.0.50727" and "WebDAV";

I have an Ajax enabled web app created with Visual Studio 2005 - .Net framework 2.0. I publish this to a Windows 2003 server and everything works fine.
I now need to publish to a Windows 2008 server with IIS 7.0. Whereas before I used to publish to http:// .... (because the site on the 2003 server was Frontpage server extension enabled} I can't see how to do this in IIS 7.0 so I have published to a share on the server at \servernamewebsites ameofwebsite
When I try to run the site I get this:
Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Recently I've upgraded from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010, however I'm having various problems when uploading my compiled web site to the live area. I'm doing exactly the same as I would have done with Visual Studio 2008, however, now I receive errors such as:
{filename}.aspx is not a pre-compiled file
masterpage.master does not exist
All these errors don't make sense. Has anyone encountered these problems before, and was a solution ever found?

We have been receiving reports of the following server error periodically from users.
[OutOfMemoryException: Exception of type System.OutOfMemoryException was thrown.]
[HttpException (0x80004005): Unable to serialize the session state.]
Please note that non-serializable objects or MarshalByRef objects are not permitted when session state mode is "StateServer" or "SQLServer".
Once in a state where this error appears, it appears to be hit or miss whether the errors are reproducible locally. If they are, then we can usually reproduce them for a couple minutes, but not on every page hit. This usually tapers off on its own and usually has resolved itself by the time we get back in contact with the users. The Web Service has around 90-100 active connections during business hours. The only other site on this server is the staging version of this site, which gets hit very infrequently. The Session State is stored on the same SQLServer instance as the application database which is housed on a fairly large cluster of virtual machines.
Neither the Web Server or the SQLServer seemed to be taxed (either processor or memory-wise) while this is going on. The distribution of which pages are erroring seems to be comparable to the normal distribution for each page. There doesn't appear to be any pattern in terms of times of occurrence. We do have less errors on average on weekends (which correlates to normal site load), but even this appears to not be consistent. There also doesn't appear to be a correlation between the errors logged and any kind of logged performance monitor events. This includes an array of perfmon counters including:
.NET CLR Jit(w3wp)
otal # of IL Bytes Jitted
.NET CLR Jit(w3wp)IL Bytes Jitted / sec
.NET CLR Jit(w3wp)\% Time in Jit

The only pattern I can see in the logs doesn't correlate to the occurrence of these errors, but is the only pattern I can see. Looking at the perfmon logs we are seeing a pattern where the "Total # of IL Bytes Jitted", "IL Bytes Jitted / sec", "% Time in Jit", "# of Methods Jitted", and "# of IL Bytes Jitted" counters for the staging site (which shouldn't be getting any traffic) doesn't pull data for a 20-50 minute period after which there is an immediate spike in "IL Bytes Jitted / sec" and a jump in "% Time in Jit" for 2-20 minute of up to 99% for the main site.

I am slowly working out the setup issues with Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate on my newly installed Windows 7 Professional Machine. I was running XP and copied most of my files back over using the 'Windows Easy Transfer' tool I used prior to installing (not an upgrade) Windows 7.
When I try to publish my website to wwwroot in 2 ways. When I select 'Delete all existing files prior to publish' I get the following error:
Error deleting file 'about.aspx'. Unable to delete 'about.aspx'. This function is not supported on this system.
When I use 'Replace matching files with local copies' I get this error:
Unable to add 'about.aspx' to the Web site. Unable to add file 'about.aspx'. Access is denied.

The server is 64 bit, but the app pool is configured to run as 32 bit. Do i need to publish 64 bit dlls? The rapid fail recovery sometimes recycles the app pool and someone suggested that it may be because i am not using 64 bit dlls. Doesn't sound likely... but you never know.I switched the publish settings to release and any cpu. But it spits out in the bin folder /bin/x64 as well. Do i copy over everything in the bin folder or do i just copy over the x64 dlls?? kinda confused on that. And why are pdb files being spit out with the dlls as well? I thought this was a debug thing only.

I got these errors while trying to run a web application using vs 2008, The first error is this: >Application has generated an exception that could not be handled. >process ID=0x1130 (4400), Thread ID=0xe6c (3692). And when I press OK a second dialog reports this error:>unable to connect to the asp.net development server. I reinstalled, repaired and re registered msdbg2.dll and edited hosts file but still get this error. I need to debug an application but I can't. This error is on a 'Win 2003 server enrterprise service pack 1' with a vs2008 team system installation. What can I do to remove this error and run and debug my application?

I am developing a web application in which I am suddenly facing an issue. I have a webpage which contains many controls, one of the control is JQuery color picker. Now, I am upgrading my system with telerik controls. As part of this process, I replaced textbox(txtcolor) with radcolorpicker with a different id(colorPicker). Suddenly, my code behind file is not throwing any errors like 'unable to find txtColor'. It is running successfully without build errors. But, when I open the page, system is throwing runtime exception(txtColor not found) which is correct.
I tried to change other controls with asp.net controls, still the problem persists. So, I dont think it is anything to do with telerik.

I had first build an database and populated it with various information, set some properties related to FTS and other things.
Now, in the asp.net MVC application, I am able to add the database ServerExplorer->Connect To Database-> Data Source= MS SQL SERVER->Server name->OpAmp-pc. Now, I was unable to add the database by copying the file in app data folder.
My doubt it how can I share the website+ database with my fellow batchmate or put the whole website online.
Build->Publish Sirte, didn't solved the pupose.

Developing a website in ASP.net. On the development site all is working fine.We decide to publish the site using visual studio 2008's publish mechanism. The publish goes flawless. When we go to the live site, it hangs anywhere from 2 minutes to 30 minutes before it starts serving pages. All other sites on the same server seem to work fine.If we reboot the server it starts serving pages right away.It is not a programming issue, as once the site kicks in all seems to work fine.VS 2008, .NET 3.5, On both IIS 6.0 and 7.5

I love the idea of precompiling my web site. In fact, 've never understood why MS didn't consider this important all along. So I tried the new Publish Web Site command in VS2010 and it seems to work well. That is, until I need to make a change to my site!In order to implement the tiniest of changes to my site, it looks like I must run the Publish Web Site command again, which takes forever because it overwrites and copies absolutely everything on my site, including the upload directory where users' images get stored, which is a problem! If I attempt to instead use Copy Web Site, then I get error about how I can't have an App_Code folder, or something along those lines, in a precompiled app.So what am I supposed to do? Is the only way I can have a precompiled site by requiring a complete reset of all content if I need to implement the tiniest of changes?

I am currently having problems with publishing my website to my server. I have ensure that the permissions/username/password is correct. I tried creating a new website and I have no problems at all. However, I have this project in localhost which I want to publish and it just gives a message "Failed to Publish". Also I am trying to configure my webconfig to access my sql server 2005 database not by windows authentication but by sql server authentication, which I am unsure of how to do it.
