Configuration :: Publish Site To Web Host?

Sep 1, 2010

I have set up a development server (Win Server 2003) with IIS 6.0. I have the .NET Framework 2.0 and 4.0 installed. My web host (where my app will run) has .NET 3.5. Will it work for me to set up my development server with 4.0 in IIS, and then create a new website in Visual Studio (2010) that targets the .NET 3.5 framework (aimed at my development server)? want to be able to publish the site to my web host (with .NET 3.5).

Configuration :: Publish A Website To Remote Host Server?

Feb 1, 2011

We have a virtual server hosted to the third party which we access through remote desktop. We have Sql server 2008 on Windows 2008. I created a website on my local hard drive and now we are ready to deploy. My question is what are the recommendations for publishing websites? What steps I need to take care of? Is it possible not to deploy the "code-behind" files. Incase of hacking of windows server, I do not want somebody to see my .vb files or Is it possbile that I can convert the whole thing except aspx files in to a strong dll?

Configuration :: Web Developer 2010 Publish Project?

Mar 20, 2011

I have created a new project by selecting ASP.net Web application. I can run the web application in debug mode.

Then I publish the project, where the service URL is localhost. Site/Application is Default Web Site/TestProject.

I go to IIS 7, under sites->Default Web Site, there is a folder called TestProject. I right click and select Manage folder->browse

But I received an error on the browser:

Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

Configuration :: How To Publish MVC2 Project To Server IIS 7.0

Oct 22, 2010

I can not publish my MVC2 project on my server.

My configuration is: VS 2010, MVC2, IIS 7.0

I have 6 different service clients in one project and as we all know when I debug the WCF client hosts them and all is working great.

If i publish up to my server the site will run but i keep getting this error after login.

There was no endpoint listening at http://localhost:8731/Design_Time_Addresses/CISS.Services/SecurityService/ that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details.

This is suppose to be easy to publish your site correct? what settings do I need in VS 2010 and what is required on IIS 7.0 to get it to work?

How To Publish .NET MVC Application To A Free Host

Feb 18, 2011

I'm building an ASP.NET MVC application and I'm trying to deploy it on a free host (0000free) which does support ASP.NET. I tried a couple of things, but none of them worked (i.e. I only see the directory structure when I browse to my web site):

Publishing to a local folder and then copying the published files via ftp over to my host (in the public_html directory).
Publishing via ftp to the root folder: ftp.mywebsite.com
Publishing via ftp to the public_html folder: ftp.mywebsite.com/public_html

Usually I would just drop the html files in the public_html folder, but I'm getting the feeling that the deployment process for an MVC application is slightly different. Do I have to modify the Web.config or some other filer? How does one usually deploy an MVC application (on a free host)?

Update:I have learned that the host uses Mono and supports .NET 4.0, but I'm still not able to deploy.

I have Visual Studio 2010 and I used its Publish Feature (i.e. right click on the project name and click publish) and I tried several things:

Publish method: FTP to the root folder.
Publish method: FTP to the publich_html folder.
Publish method: File System to the root folder.
Publish method: File System to the publich_html folder.
Publish method: File System to a local directory on my computer and then FTP to root and also tried the public_html folder.

I went into the cPanel (control panel) to try and see if ASP.NET has to be added/enabled for my web site, but I didn't see anything there.I can't browse to Index.aspx nor can I redirect to it from index.html (as suggested from other posts on the host forum), right now I have a link from index.html to Index.aspx but it's not working either (see http://www.mydevarmy.com)I've also tried renaming Index.aspx to Default.aspx, but that doesn't work either.

The search utility of the forum of the host is somewhat weak, so I use google to search their forum: http://www.google.com/search?q=publish+asp.net+site%3A0000free.com%2Fforum%2F&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

I've been reading Pro ASP.NET MVC Framework and they have a chapter about publishing, but it doesn't provide any specific information with respect to the location of publishing, this is all they say (and it's not very helpful in my case):

Where Should I Put My Application? You can deploy your application to any folder on the server. When IIS first installs, it automatically creates a folder for a web site called Default Web Site at c:Inetpubwwwroot, but you shouldn't feel any obligation to put your application files there. It's very common to host applications on a different physical drive from the operating system (e.g., in e:websites example.com). It's entirely up to you, and may be influenced by concerns such as how you plan to back up the server.

Here is the error I get when I try to view my Index.aspx page:Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'. (/home/devarmy/public_html/Web.config line 1)

Description: HTTP 500. Error processing request.

Stack Trace:System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'. (/home/devarmy/public_html/Web.config line 1)

Host .NET MVC Controllers+views Within A Webforms Project?

Jan 20, 2010

We have a legacy ASP.NET webforms application that we're engaged in stabilising and removing technical debt from. Is it possible to take a hybrid approach - ie, can ASP.NET MVC coexist with webforms within the same web-project? Are there any gotchas for that? If it is possible, I assume one just has to initialise the routes table, register the ASP.NET MVC handlers,

Visual Studio :: Publish Web Project - Securely - Best Approach?

Feb 14, 2010

I'm migrating from the website model to the web project model. In the past I used ssl/ftp (server is IIS7) to upload a website. The host (DiscountASP.NET) using VS2008 Publish to upload a project. VS2008 displays the alert that the password will pass in the clear. So ... what is the best practices approach to publishing a project?

1. SSL/FTP (not sure of the implications re: site compilation)
2. VS2008 Publish
3. VS2008 Web Deployment Projects

WebMatrix :: Deploying The Mvc2.0 Project To Remoting Host?

Jul 14, 2010

I'm so excited about the webmatrix, because it makes all the works to be easier than ever before, so I make a try, but I met a problem when I deployed the project membership db to remoting host (I chose the cytanium.com), and I had deployed the project files and another database sucessfully, only the membership related database failed, the error message is below:

[Code]....

I thought that the problem source is about the collation of the database, so I change my database collation from "Chinese_PRC_CI_AS" to "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS", but the problem is the same, I had search a lot of articles, but I didn't find a way to resolve this issue.

Setting Up Dev Environment / Publish The Project Without Manually Changing The Web.config File?

Feb 15, 2011

I'm working on different windows machines and virtual windows machines on a mac. I have a project wich uses SQL server and AD for autentication.

Right now I have to be connected to VPN so that the asp.net web application can connect to AD using LDAP string to autentivate users, I also have the SQL server on the other side of the VPN connection.

Is there any way to setup my enviroment so that I can work locally without the AD, and on a local SQL server and be able to publish the project without manually changing the web.config file?

Configuration :: How To Deploy Project And Web Services Project And Make Them Communicating

Mar 21, 2010

I have created 2 projects in a solution. One project contains Asp.net classes with login page and different other pages.

Another project contains a web service.

When I launch the solution(click F6 in visual studio 2008) the login page can access to the method of the webservice. Both projects are launched.

However when i added this 2 projects into IIS and deploy them (with create command) the login page cannot contact the method of the web service. Even though the web service is running because i can acces it manually. But they cannot communicate each other.

Configuration :: Need To Publish 64 Bit Dlls?

Nov 13, 2010

The server is 64 bit, but the app pool is configured to run as 32 bit. Do i need to publish 64 bit dlls? The rapid fail recovery sometimes recycles the app pool and someone suggested that it may be because i am not using 64 bit dlls. Doesn't sound likely... but you never know.I switched the publish settings to release and any cpu. But it spits out in the bin folder /bin/x64 as well. Do i copy over everything in the bin folder or do i just copy over the x64 dlls?? kinda confused on that. And why are pdb files being spit out with the dlls as well? I thought this was a debug thing only.

Configuration :: How To Publish Site / MVC Application

Dec 30, 2010

I had first build an database and populated it with various information, set some properties related to FTS and other things.

Now, in the asp.net MVC application, I am able to add the database ServerExplorer->Connect To Database-> Data Source= MS SQL SERVER->Server name->OpAmp-pc. Now, I was unable to add the database by copying the file in app data folder.

My doubt it how can I share the website+ database with my fellow batchmate or put the whole website online.

Build->Publish Sirte, didn't solved the pupose.
