I have an Ajax enabled web app created with Visual Studio 2005 - .Net framework 2.0. I publish this to a Windows 2003 server and everything works fine.
I now need to publish to a Windows 2008 server with IIS 7.0. Whereas before I used to publish to http:// .... (because the site on the 2003 server was Frontpage server extension enabled} I can't see how to do this in IIS 7.0 so I have published to a share on the server at \servernamewebsites ameofwebsite
When I try to run the site I get this:
Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

I have a webapplication designed in asp.net 2.0 which works fine since years.Recently we wanted to protect the source code so we tried to precompile the site using publish method. Unfortunately it showed hundreds of errors and the build failed. then i created a test site with only two pages and no other controls except a button and a label control in them which show server time and navigates to each other using response.redirect whenever the button is clicked.

I had first build an database and populated it with various information, set some properties related to FTS and other things.
Now, in the asp.net MVC application, I am able to add the database ServerExplorer->Connect To Database-> Data Source= MS SQL SERVER->Server name->OpAmp-pc. Now, I was unable to add the database by copying the file in app data folder.
My doubt it how can I share the website+ database with my fellow batchmate or put the whole website online.
Build->Publish Sirte, didn't solved the pupose.

I'm working in Visual Studio 2010 Professional. I have a web application based upon the standard ASP.NET Web Application, which contains the aspnetdb.mdf SQL Express database for forms based security. For testing deployment, I'm trying to use the Publish option to publish the web app to IIS 7, which exists on the same machine that I'm building the web app on. The machine is running Windows 2008 R2.
I went through the Help file to set up the deployment of the database, using the Package/Publish SQL tab in the site properties. I followed the help file to the letter, or so I thought. I go to publish to the virtual directory I set up on IIS and it gives me errors, specifically saying the following:
Web deployment task failed.(The database'|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf' could not be created.)
I took this to mean the the path isn't valid for publishing to, which makes sense. So I changed the destination path to the fully qualified path (C:WebAppsApp_Dataaspnetdb.mdf) and ran it again. This time I got the following error:
Web deployment task failed.(Cannot connect to the database 'C:WebAppsAppDataaspnetdb.mdr'.)
I looked at the security for the folder and everything seems fine. Now I'm stuck.
My question is - can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, or supply a list of steps to follow, or give me a link to a site that has clear steps as to how this is done?

I'm relatively new to actually publishing sites on my own..Anyway, right now I am using VS2008 to build / compile my web application and then publish it to the server. Simple enough, until I want to change several of the code behinds, and don't want to spend 30 minutes re-publishing several thousand documents.
I have been reading that publishing via VS is not the best approach, so I guess I have two questions:
1. Using VS2008, is there a way to build the project and publish only certain parts of the project such as the pre-compiled code or better yet have VS only update the code that has been changed on the server? I suppose I could simply publish it to my local drive and pick apart the files from there / is there a better way?
2. In your opinion what is the best deployment strategy?

I have a program which I would like to publish to my company's intranet server so that employees are able to implement updates. I am not sure how to go about this but I have done some research on IIS and I was wondering if anyone could clue me in a little more with what I need to do. I have not yet downloaded IIS to give it a try as I'm not sure where I would go from there.

I have a visual studion 2010 solution with two projects
1 . A class libarary
[Code]....
2. A windows service application
[Code]....
The service application is used to convert .dbf files to xml. The convertion is done using the classlibary project wich is called by the windows service application. This class library project has some values hard coded. like the path to look for the .dbf file
const string sourcePath = @"F:forms";
const string pathToDbfStructure = @"F:formsstructure.dbf";
const string pathToBackupFile = @"F:ackup";
I want to make these hard coded values changable. like moving them to an app.config file. To which project I have to add the app.config file (classlibary or windows service)? How can I use the value from configuration file in classlibrary ?

I have been developing a .net web application for a while now. I had my application installed on a test server and everything was running smoothly. Now that the application is almost ready for deployment to end users, I obtained a brand new web server to host the application. I installed SQL server 2008R2, copied over my database and after a bit of messing about with conection strings and SQL logins, everything seemed to be working fine from debug. When I tried to install my app to the new server, I was prompted that I would need to install .net 4.0 which I then did. Gave the server a reboot and tried to install the app again - this time I got the following error before the install rolled back incomplete...
Could not open key: microsoftsoftwareASP.NET4.0.30319.0 verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personel. I checked IIS and the default application pool was set to net 2.0, I changed this to 4.0 and ran the install again but got the same error. Could anyone offer any advice here as I am under pressure to get this system up and running.

I have built my site using VS.Net 2010 on my XP machine. I would like to deploy it to my server which is a Windows 2003 Server. I have tried to do it with FTP, but it keeps failing with the error that "Front Page Extensions are not installed on the web server". When I check the server the extensions were installed and I also checked IIS and the service for the extension is allowed.

"My application (ASP.NET) writes certain files in folders on my servers. In IIS 6.0 I used to give write access to IUSR account so that IIS can write to the folder. Now what I see is my application pool runs under App Pool Identity account. That is good but users are able to create files in the folders without App Pool Identity user being given specific permission to do so.

Normally my application is working fine.After I host my asp application on IIS I get an exception "internal error", when I try to execute the below lines of code.

X509Certificate2 cert = new X509Certificate2(CertificatePath, CertificatePassword);
var serviceManagment = ServiceManagementHelper.CreateServiceManagementChannel(EndpointConfigurationName, cert); var listServices = serviceManagment.ListHostedServices(SubscriptionId);
I suppose the application is not able to read the IIS certificate.I am trying to connect to windows azure cloud for which the certificate is required to get list of hosted services from cloud.

If I change trust level to full it is working fine, but the hosting environment is set to run only medium trust application.
What are the settings to be done prior to upload files in a medium trust application.
