I have created a new project by selecting ASP.net Web application. I can run the web application in debug mode.
Then I publish the project, where the service URL is localhost. Site/Application is Default Web Site/TestProject.
I go to IIS 7, under sites->Default Web Site, there is a folder called TestProject. I right click and select Manage folder->browse
But I received an error on the browser:
Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

I can not publish my MVC2 project on my server.
My configuration is: VS 2010, MVC2, IIS 7.0
I have 6 different service clients in one project and as we all know when I debug the WCF client hosts them and all is working great.
If i publish up to my server the site will run but i keep getting this error after login.
There was no endpoint listening at http://localhost:8731/Design_Time_Addresses/CISS.Services/SecurityService/ that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details.
This is suppose to be easy to publish your site correct? what settings do I need in VS 2010 and what is required on IIS 7.0 to get it to work?

I am trying to add a new database via the App_Data Folder and I receive an error described below. When I attempt to add ANY TYPE OF SQL SERVER DATABASE through the App_Data folder I receive this error "Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2008 to function properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download
from the URl."
I can create a db via SQL Server Mgmt Studio, it connects fine, and I can see tables.
Visual Studio- Server Explorer connects fine to the Database, I can see the tables.
Im running XP SP3 w/ Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer. I had previously removed SQL Server Express.
Why cant I access the database within my project, when Im able to connect to this fine within Visual Studio Server Explorer?

I have an ASP.NET 3.5 website application using C# and SQL 2005 running on a web server. Now the application has the ability to create new aspx pages with content and the relative aspx.cs and design.cs pages needed on the fly and store them in the base directory on the server. Think of it as a crued Visual Studio website on the server for admin to click a few options on a page then the new pages are created for them without the need of a web developer. This all works fine and the code is working 100% (for the moment).
My problem now is the following: When i now navigate to this newly created page i get the following error - Parse Error : Could not load type 'Namespace.PageName'
I've looked into the reasoning and microsoft say "These errors occur if the .aspx page contains a reference to a code-behind module and if the application has not been built." Which now makes sense the application does not realise that these new pages are part of its system even though i can navigate to them. How do i get the system to recognise these new pages and rebuild itself accordingly? Now i cannot rebuild the system localy then reupload to the server, this needs to be accomplished on the server by the system, because the site cannot afford to have down time everytime admin decide to add new pages.

I'm migrating from the website model to the web project model. In the past I used ssl/ftp (server is IIS7) to upload a website. The host (DiscountASP.NET) using VS2008 Publish to upload a project. VS2008 displays the alert that the password will pass in the clear. So ... what is the best practices approach to publishing a project?
1. SSL/FTP (not sure of the implications re: site compilation)
2. VS2008 Publish
3. VS2008 Web Deployment Projects

I'm working on different windows machines and virtual windows machines on a mac. I have a project wich uses SQL server and AD for autentication.
Right now I have to be connected to VPN so that the asp.net web application can connect to AD using LDAP string to autentivate users, I also have the SQL server on the other side of the VPN connection.
Is there any way to setup my enviroment so that I can work locally without the AD, and on a local SQL server and be able to publish the project without manually changing the web.config file?

I have created 2 projects in a solution. One project contains Asp.net classes with login page and different other pages.
Another project contains a web service.
When I launch the solution(click F6 in visual studio 2008) the login page can access to the method of the webservice. Both projects are launched.
However when i added this 2 projects into IIS and deploy them (with create command) the login page cannot contact the method of the web service. Even though the web service is running because i can acces it manually. But they cannot communicate each other.

In an obviously misguided effort to keep versions of a site built through vs2010 .aspx vb I copied the entire visual studio 2010 folder from its default location on my local pc to a folder on a network. I then opened the network folder version of the project in VS, made a small change to some text, built the site sucessfully and published the site sucessfully to the same place the original site was published to. However, when I try to access the site I get the "resouce cannot be found" error. In a bit of a panic I opened the original project in VS and published it...no problem the site comes up. What am I doing wrong?

The server is 64 bit, but the app pool is configured to run as 32 bit. Do i need to publish 64 bit dlls? The rapid fail recovery sometimes recycles the app pool and someone suggested that it may be because i am not using 64 bit dlls. Doesn't sound likely... but you never know.I switched the publish settings to release and any cpu. But it spits out in the bin folder /bin/x64 as well. Do i copy over everything in the bin folder or do i just copy over the x64 dlls?? kinda confused on that. And why are pdb files being spit out with the dlls as well? I thought this was a debug thing only.

I had first build an database and populated it with various information, set some properties related to FTS and other things.
Now, in the asp.net MVC application, I am able to add the database ServerExplorer->Connect To Database-> Data Source= MS SQL SERVER->Server name->OpAmp-pc. Now, I was unable to add the database by copying the file in app data folder.
My doubt it how can I share the website+ database with my fellow batchmate or put the whole website online.
Build->Publish Sirte, didn't solved the pupose.

Developing a website in ASP.net. On the development site all is working fine.We decide to publish the site using visual studio 2008's publish mechanism. The publish goes flawless. When we go to the live site, it hangs anywhere from 2 minutes to 30 minutes before it starts serving pages. All other sites on the same server seem to work fine.If we reboot the server it starts serving pages right away.It is not a programming issue, as once the site kicks in all seems to work fine.VS 2008, .NET 3.5, On both IIS 6.0 and 7.5
