Visual Studio :: Debug-Start Debugging/Debug-StartWithoutDebugging OR Project Configuration Launches Dream?

Jan 3, 2010

Debug-Start Debugging/Debug-StartWithoutDebugging OR Project ASP.Net Configuration launches Dreamweaver. It started lastnight, I had both Deamweaver and VWD 2008 express open at the same time - (I was looking at JQuery in the Microsoft and Dreamweaver enviroments simultaniously). After the first tie this happened, I closed down Dreamweaver (CS3) and it opened when I tried to run my VWD project. I reinstalled VWD 2008 express, IIS and disabled Dreamweaver (renamed the exe). Dreamweaver still came up.

Configuration :: Unable To Debug Website?

Apr 24, 2010

I' ve been experiencing some serious problems with running my website.Everytime I click on the little green arrow to start debugging my website I get an error message in my browser. This problem occurs in every browser I use. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome.I figured it had something to do with my internet settings, but they are exactly the same as the internet settings of a pc on which my website does run.Event installing Google Chrome without importing the settings from my primary browser (Firefox) has the same result.

The errors are:

Firefox: "The connection with the server was reinitialised during page load"
Internet Explorer: "The page cannot be displayed"
Chrome: "The page is unavailable. The page on http://localhost:PORTNUMBER/EventCompanion/Taak/Test/TestTaakEdit.aspx is probably disable temporarily or it has been permanently move to a new address."Even clicking with the right mouse button on an aspx page and selecting the "View in browser" option has the same result. The only thing that works is viewing the website in the internal browser provided by Visual Studio 2008.But that way I'm unable to debug, which is pretty enoying.

Running the website on an other pc works perfectly...

Iis7 - Unable To Start Debugging On The Web Server - Couldn't Start Debugging VS 2010 - II7 - Win 7 X64

Jan 11, 2011

I am running Visual Studio 2010 (as Admin), IIS 7 on Windows 7 x64. I am able to run the ASP.NET web site in IIS 7 without debugging just fine, but when I press F5 to debug it, I get: Unable to start debugging on the web server. Could not start ASP.NET debugging. More information may be available by starting the project without debugging. Unfortunately the help link is not helping me much and leads down a heck of a large tree of things. I checked the following:

Security requirements — I don't recall having to do anything special before. The worker process in IIS7 is w3wp.exe. It says that if it's running as ASPNET or NETWORK SERVICE I must have Administrator privileges to debug it. How do I find out if I need to change something here? Web site Property Pages > Start Options > Debuggers > ASP.NET is checked. Use custom server is set to the URL of the site (which works fine without debugging). Debugging is enabled in web.config. Application is using ASP.NET 3.5 (I want to move to 4.0 eventually but I have some migration to deal with). Application pool: Classing .NET AppPool (also tried DefaultAppPool). Surely it shouldn't be that hard to install IIS, VS, create a web site, and start testing it?

Debug Behavior In Application Start, Global.asax?

Jan 13, 2010

Not using Cassini, but IIS7 to run an ASP.NET app.

The debug behavior is flakey. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I was able to step into the application start event in global.asax but sometimes I can't.

Sometimes VS2008 opens the published global.asax so I have two instances of global.asax opened in VS, the source and the published.

I reset the AppDomain and IIS and I can't put my finger on why this is happening.

To add, while it won't go into application start, I have an OnChangeEventHandler event - it does step into the event handler.

Configuration :: Cannot Overwrite Pdf File On Webserver

Jul 21, 2010

We recently migrated applications from one web server to another. Previously they could upload files to the server and if it already existed, it would over write with the new one.

Now I have to manually delete the file from the server so they can upload a new one. If I delete it they can upload a new one and even upload one to overwrite the one they uploaded. But only after I delete the "migrated" one.

All of the security is correct. ASPNET and IIS_WPG have permissions.

Da Code:

If System.IO.File.Exists(UploadLoc + Me.FileUpload_PDF.FileName) Then
System.IO.File.Delete(UploadLoc + Me.FileUpload_PDF.FileName)
End If

Me.FileUpload_PDF.SaveAs(UploadLoc + Me.FileUpload_PDF.FileName)

I get the dreaded "access to the file is denied"

Update: I find if I give "USER" modify rights it works, but that does not seem secure.

Configuration :: DB Update On Webserver Without Shutting Down Website?

Aug 17, 2010

What is the best way to update a DB on a webserver without shutting down the website that is running on the server?

We want to do things like replacing tables, updating tables and so on, without shutting down the website. One can do everything one wants to by simply opening the webiste on a local instance of visual webdeveloper express (2008 for example). But as soon as the DB is opened in that program, the website looses contact to the database and is effectively down.

Is there another way to access the database wihtout having to shut it down?

Of course one could program such functions viwht asp.net, however, there are so many tasks to be done that it would be tedious to program a new function on an admin website each time. Is there a simple and direct way to change the DB?

Configuration :: Getting The Components / Application Working Properly On The Webserver?

Apr 16, 2010

I'm quite new to ASP and I can't seem to figure out how to get the application/website to work properly on my webserver. The first thing I had done was to build the solution, shortly followed by 'build website' and at last, to 'publish website'. It saved the files to C: -> Documents -> MS VS -> Projects -> My website.

There, the following files are found:

Account [folder]; App_Data [folder]; Scripts [folder]; Styles [folder]; bin [folder]; Web.config; Site.master; Default.aspx; About.aspx and PrecompiledApp.config.

I then uploaded these via FTP to my webserver and accessed the appropriate URL. Seems nothing showed up in root beside "Index of/". When I tried to access /Default.aspx, nothing but text appeared (which would be the code displayed in Default.aspx).

I've also read some tutorials regarding this matter where they instructed me to upload directly from Visual Studio to the FTP server, but I'm kind of afraid that it'll delete everything in said folder, as I don't know what the structure of said direct upload should be like.
