Configuration :: Why Would Website Not Work When Using Precompiled Solution

Nov 24, 2010

I just published my website to my webhost, and for some reason it's giving me errors. So I copied the solution and it works correctly.

What could the problem be? I think a possible problem may be that there's a process that creates a directory so it can copy files. By copying everything from the solution to the ftp, everything works correctly. If I publish the site, it somehow does not create the directories.

Is there something I'm not doing correctly? I've published in a local folder, and then copied to the FTP. I've also published directly to the FTP. Neither of them work.

Configuration :: Why Precompiled Website Not Display Default Page On Browsing

Mar 25, 2011

I sent a lot of time trying to trouble shoot IIS 6.0 yesterday on a pre-compiled website. I could never browse the default web page. I got the initial bar on the bottom right when I set up the site but then got a blank page. The I got frustrated with IIS and decided to try just copying all my web application files to the IIS server. When I did this the application worked! I have used pre-compiled sites before with no problem.

C# - Solution File Opens Up Precompiled Code In Inetpub

Jan 4, 2010

I have a folder that contains ASPX code and it's codebehind (C#) as well as a solution file. The compiled version of the application resides in the inetpub directory. Whenever I open the solution in Visual Studio, VS warns me that it is attempting to open a precompiled website and asks me if I want to continue. If I click NO it does nothing, but If I click yes it shows me the ASPX files in the inetpub directory. How do I make the solution work with that code in the directory that it is in (ie with the aspx and codebehind)?

Configuration :: File Not Been Precompiled

Jan 17, 2011

I currently use Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.0. I have been precompiling my site regularly for several years before uploading to our production or distribution server, using aspnet_compiler.exe, and have had no problems. When I tried to precompile and upload a few days ago, I got the following error message when I try to acccess one particular page (the rest of the site works fine):

The file '/Library/LibraryHome.aspx' has not been pre-compiled, and cannot be requested. The only significant change from the previous time I precompiled was that I had installed the AJAX Extensions and tried to use one of the controls on a page in the /Library folder (not LibraryHome.aspx but a different page). I eventually gave up on that control and removed it from the page, so there is no AJAX in the site.

I read in various forum posts regarding this error that it often occurs when one or more assemblies are missing when the site is uploaded. When I precompile, I completely empty the folder that it's going to compile into, and then when I upload the site to our production server, I delete everything in that folder also. I cannot find any assemblies that are missing. Everything in the bin folder of my local version of the site exists in the bin folder of the compiled version. I even uninstalled the AJAX Extensions, but nothing I've done removes this error message. I've checked the listing of assemblies in web.config and don't see anything it's calling for that isn't in the compiled site.

Visual Studio :: Remote Debugging Precompiled Website?

May 19, 2010

I have a precompiled website deployed in a remote test server. I want to debug the site from my computer. Following page says that the compilation should be performed with symbolic information.

[URL]

I had compiled my application in debug mode.

Unfortunately the breakpoints are not hit even with a copy of the precompiled website deployed in my local IIS. Following were the actions done with the local copy.

1. Requested the Page

2. Opened the source code and attached visual studio to aspnet_wp.exe

3. No break points are hit( I can see visual studio giving the hint- The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document.)

IIS Configuration :: Website Working Fine On Local But Does Not Work On Server

Jan 4, 2013

In my site on every load some session is made through url and single page(say xyz.aspx) is call every time and on the basis of url we create session. When i click on a href tag , page start reloading ,url we created is accurate but data doesn't change every time, means some time it show data on first click, but some time after 3 or 4 click.

I say problem is weird because when i run this on my local server there is no problem, when i run this on my project (visual studio) there is no problem , but when i up this project on my online server it show this kind of error but not every time .

I use data caching to fill dataset. There is no problem in this website since we created this (more than 1 year) and we don't made any change on this page but suddenly it starts showing this kind of error so what kind of error this is.

Architecture :: Admin Website And Main Website Under Same Solution?

Jan 7, 2011

I want to put my website project and admin website under same project as I want to use session and authentication of the main site. Also I want to show the admin, the page, where he has made changes. But the problem is whenever I will change anything in admin pages, I've to build the entire website. I don't want to do that. Can I build that separately?

I don't want to choose the option of building all pages separately as well.

Is there any alternatives of doing that. Separate projects for admin and website will come up with many other challenges. So I would like to avoid that.

Finding Difference Between A Solution Vs Website

I'm trying to edit some code in a website solution which I have opened in vs. I notice that there are only 3 files showing and it doesn't have a web.config and it uses a popup box when I debug it instead of opening up a webpage like default.aspx. I see that I have to use debug.write and not response.write as I normally would. How can I see my debug.write statements?

Analyzing An Inherited Website Solution?

Jan 4, 2010

I have "inherited" an ASP.net 2.0 VB project and have been given a list of items the customer wants changed. This is not my original work, I've "inherited" it from another coder who went AWOL. The customer just wants the site to work, but has found a few issues that need to be changed. Unfortunately, the project is over budget and is about a year overdue. Thus, there's no time to update it to .Net 3.5.

I started using Reflector and have a fair understanding of the classes and methods defined. What techniques have you used when modifying an existing codebase? Do you re-create according to your practices and methodology, or try to adhere to what the previous coder did?

Web Forms :: How To Add Webparts Solution To Existing Website

Mar 19, 2010

I have one of the .Net site running and want to implement web-parts on that site. well I am not using (aspnet_Users, or aspnet_Membership) defaults tables from aspnetDB but I have my own login controls and create new user contols ect on the site. so in short I have the users uniq ID when logged in from our corporate database nothing similar to aspnetDB.

Hecen want to know can I impelemt webparts in the existing site by just importing the tables from aspnetdb like (aspnet_PersonalizationAllUsers, aspnet_PersonalizationPerUser) to my database and what else I will require apart from these tables?

1. which list of store procedures I should coopy?

2. Any modification to my web.config?

3. Are their any functions/classes which I might have to copy to my App_Code folder to work these webparts with my exisitng site and userdetails

Is it possible ?

Configuration :: Deploying A Specific Folder Under A Solution?

Jan 19, 2011

This is our current solution layout.

Main Solution
Business Class C# Project
Module1
f1class1.cs f1class2.cs
Module2
f2class1.cs f2class2.cs
Module3
f3class1.cs f3class2.cs
UI Project (aspx,aspx.cs,bin,app_code)
Module1
page1.aspx page2.aspx
Module2
page3.aspx page4.aspx
Module3
page5.aspx page6.aspx

For every deploy the UI Project is published and moved to all the sites. All the Modules use the same Business Class C# Project. Basically every page will use some common classes in Business Class C# Project >> Module1 Now what i need is to just deploy Module3 independent of full deploy. This shouldnt disturb the existing functionality for the remaining modules as they are already working fine in Production. So only the Module3 business class and Module3 aspx changes need to be deployed. The problem here is Module3 business class is a part of Business class C# Project. Is there a way to just deploy Module3 Business Class, ASPX when ever required without having to move the Business Class C# Project.

Configuration :: Deploying A 2.0 Framework Solution In 4.0 Environment?

I was wondering if it is possible for me to deploy an application, developed and currently running in .NET 2.0 environment to the .NET 4.0 environment. Will it break anything in the process? I was thinking it should be possible since the .net 3.5 onwards are just additional libraries over the .NET 2.0 framework?

Visual Studio :: One Project In Solution Opens As Website Not Web App?

Feb 24, 2010

this seems to be a problem only on my new PC, not my prior PC or my coworkers PCs. But, as far as I know, I have installed VS2005 the same way, including the VS80-KB915364-X86-ENU.exe and WebApplicationProjectSetup.msi additions.

I have a VS2005 Solution called 'Intranet' made up of several web projects. One of those web projects is also called 'Intranet'. All of the projects should load as Web Application Projects, which they did on my prior PC.

Now, the 'Intranet' project seems to be opening as a Web Site project. The name of the project in the solution now shows as "C:...Intranet" instead of just "Intranet" and is not recognized as being part of the SourceSafe project(no lock icon shows). If I right-click this project, "Build Web Site" is one option.
