I have an application which is used by others on different server without problems. The app was programmed by a programmer who is not available now. It was developed on .net 2.0. The windows 2003 is a new server, asp.net is enabled. from iis, I can configure it to use asp.net 2.0....,
but, when I load the site, it always show the 404. even after I change the default.aspx to a blank page, it still shows 404. however, if I put a default.htm in the folder, and it can be loaded without problems.
what can cause this? how to fix it? if I installed a vs2005 express on the server, will it fix the problem?
it seems the asp.net 2.0 dll is not recognized on server. never had this problem before.
I have remove default.aspx page from remote server then the site is also running.

View 5 RepliesI have Connector/NET working on my windows 2008 web server. We are moving the MySQL DB from localhost on that windows 2008 server to a new Linux server. The tables are copied over. I can connect to them in the cmd line using all the same credentials.
When I try to connect via my ASP.NET application I get the ambiguous Error:
"Unable to initialize provider. Missing or incorrect schema."
All I changed was the server name in:
<add name="LocalMySqlServer" providerName="MySQL.Data.MySqlClient" connectionString="server=MYSERVER; database=MYDATABASE; uid=MYUSERID; password=MYPASSWORD; pooling=false; character set=latin1" />
If I change it back to the old server name, it works again.
Why am I getting this error? Do I need to change something else?
I am starting a new project where I have to use oracle and asp.net. Oracle 11 enterprise edition. Problem is oracle database reside in linux server and application server is in windows. My question is1. Is there any problem connecting oracle from asp.net?
View 1 RepliesI work in VS 2008. Whenver I add a server control(Label) and set it properties in aspx.vb and build the solution, I get the error "Label1 not declared". While analyzing this issue I noticed that the event handler statements for the Label1 where not added in the designer.asp.vb file. These statement would actually be added automatically when I drag and drop a control to my webpage.
I would also like to inform the scenario after which this problem came to me. I was working in VS 2008 , VS 2005 and VS 2003 in the same machine.Could this have caused the issue ?
Now each and everytime when I add a control, I am adding the "With Events" code in the designer page to make my build succesfull which makes me to spend more efforts.
i have created my website in vs 2008 using the localhost, now i want to upload it to my uni server. i have transferred all the files to the server but am getting this error. I have to maintain a very old application. What I am doing right now is I have a dev machine where I have the solution for the old web app (1.1) usually if i have to add new pages to the app what I used to do is add .aspx pages in the dev mechine and compile the solution generate new dll's and copy the .dlls and .aspx pages to the server used to work fine.
Now I needed to add a page. I did the same thing some how the server is not reconizing the new page I have created. what Should i do to make the server recognize the new page?
I did IISRESET it did n't work.
I have made an application for some customer that I'm going to transfer to a webhotel.I want to make sure that the application is not copied and used elsewhere without my knowledge. So I have thought of stripping the aspx files from their code behind, that is not the aspx.cs file itself. But from all code inside the cs file, not the one that is automatically generated like page_load etc, but everything else. And when done, then just upload the compiled DLL file(s). Does this work? Are there something to be mindful of if I carry out with this plan.
View 2 RepliesI want to know that how can i hide aspx page in URL just from main page. Like when i go to my site http://mysite.com it shows me an aspx page at the end. like
http://mysite.com/Home.aspx
How can i hide that Home.aspx from URL
I need to hide it from main page only
I want my site visitors to be able to navigate to a page without having to type the .aspx extension. For example, if I have a page file named info.aspx I want site visitors to be able to go to that page with a URL like this: www.mysite.com/info without the aspx extension. Is there a way to do this in the web.config file?

View 3 RepliesI have hosted a site on server. Problem is, content of a particular .aspx file (index.aspx/content.aspx) is periodically replaced by clinet side HTML code(the source we see in browser by right click>view source). What can be reason behind this?
View 2 RepliesI have hosted my project in the remote server. i pasted all the dlls & all the necessary files into inetpub->wwwroot ->httpdocs->(pasted all files). In the server we have .net framework 3.5 and IIS 6.0
Now I just want to check whether my files are running locally on the server. So I did the following. Just opened the IIS, made the httpdocs folder as a virtual directory. And then I clicked the httpdocs. It displayed all the files it has in the right side pane. Then I right clicked the default.aspx and then I clicked browse. Now the browser opened with the URL http://localhost/httpdocs/default.aspx. But I could not able to see the aspx page.It just shows "The page is not found"
But when I tried the same steps for opening a .html page it works fine (http://localhost/httpdocs/test.html) I can able to view the html pages.
Whether I need to configure anything on the IIS.... What should I do to view the .aspx files
I am trying to run an aspx file on my server windows 2003 with IIS 6.0. I get the following error. Server Error in '/' Application. Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local
server machine.
Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

I have a site with 2 web servers and NLB (Windows Server 2008 and IIS 7). I'm trying to move the site to NAS storage accessed via a UNC path.
I have copied the site files to the NAS and set all permissions on the NAS. The only change I'm making in IIS is to the sites path. I can change the path back to local storage on the web server and there is no error. I switch the path to the UNC path and I get the error.
When set to the UNC path, within IIS Manager on each web server I can successfully browse to HTML files, but I get a 404 browsing to ASPX files. I've narrowed the error down to something going on when the page directive is in the aspx file. That is, when the aspx file has only html, the page will load fine. When I add the page directive to the aspx file I get the 404:
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Test.aspx.cs" Inherits="GPS.Custom.Test" %>
I don't see anything in the code behind that could possible cause 404, and the site files match exactly between those on the web server and those on the NAS.
i have win 7 with internet explorer 8.
i have a Web application project in the VS2010,
when i execute it using local port auto-asign port, the aspx page shows ok on the internet explorer.
when i run the same project from the IIS (Browsing the aspx page from the iis), only the controls text is displays without the controls (colors and menus .. ) - although the source view shows that the tags exists.
I have a simple webApplication. Now I have a second webapplication with few web aspx pages. When I build each project I get aspx files with 1 dll per project.
Now the structure of the first webApplication is like this
inwebapplication1.dll
Default.aspx
Is it possible to load the dll of the second application dynamically and put its dll into the bin directory. The result will be something like this:
inwebapplication1.dll
inwebapplication2.dll
Default.aspx
application2default.aspx
The problem is that when I try to open application2default.aspx the compiler is throwing an error that it cannot find the class for that particular page because the assembly inwebapplication2.dll is not loaded. I tried to load the assembly from the web config like this <add assembly="myassemly, Version=1.0.0.0, PublicKeyToken=null, Culture=neutral"/> and also from the code like this Assembly.LoadFrom( @"D:Projectsinmyassemly.dll" ); OR Assembly.Load( "myassemly, Version=1.0.0.0, PublicKeyToken=null, Culture=neutral" ); but I still have no success. Can u tell me what is the logic here with the assembly load?
