I have 2 connection strings which connect to the same database. I used the exact same syntax for both of them, the only difference is the address which they point at.
The "ApplicationServices" connection string functions just fine.
The "GoMelodyEntities" connection string produces Keyword not supported: 'data source'.

My app fails at this line of code:
Dim objConnection As New SqlConnection(Application("ConnString"))
My connection string is:
"Server=testAITSQL;Database=SSCommerce;UID=PlanoWebApp;PWD=XXXXXXXX;"
I googled this problem and the solution for it was having a malformed connection string where the "provider" was being specified when it shouldn't have. Example conn string:Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;DATABASE=APInquiry;SERVER=SqlServer I'm not specifying the Provider so I think I have a different problem...???

As an alternative to hand editing this file you can use the web admin tool to configure settings for your application. Use the Website->Asp.Net Configuration option in Visual Studio. A full list of settings and comments can be found in machine.config.comments usually located in Windows Microsoft.NetFrameworkv2.xConfig

I wish to connect to an access database within visual web developer. I created the connection string:
<connectionStrings>
<add
name="ConnectString"
connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data
Source=C:foldersfilename.mdb"
providerName="System.Data.OleDb"/>
</connectionStrings>
And I refer to the connection like so:
<asp:sqlDataSource
ID="SqlDataSource3"
runat="server"
ConnectionString=
"<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectString %>"
ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectString.ProviderName %>"
SelectCommand="
but I recieve the error
Keyword not supported: 'provider'.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.ArgumentException: Keyword not supported: 'provider'
what am I supposed to do to make this connection work! I have always done it in dreamweaver with no problems, but I have to use Visual Web Developer for this project.

I have built an ASP.NET (.NET v4) application in VS 2010. It is working just fine. But when I try to create deployment package (so I can deploy it in our test IIS 7.5 Server), it gives me error like this,
Error 1 Could not open Source file: Could not find file 'C:11-2 estobjDebugCSAutoParameterize ransformedWeb.config'. 0 0 test
Thing is in past, I had deployed the SAME application using the SAME method.

My ISP recently has migrated my app to a new platform. The app has now to be parked in a root subfolder, say site1, rather than at the root.
The main page can still be accessed via [URL] is now located at /site1/default.aspx. Subfolder pages however cannot be accessed correctly anymore since the url includes now subfolder name "site1" ie
[URL]
instead of
[URL]
This of course breaks page referencing.
Despite multiple requests, I have not yet obtained an answer so far. Question: Is there a simple way to strip away string "site1" from the url, preferably at the web.config level? I know this can be done programmatically at the page level, to clean up page references (>30 pages). In addition, this could entail further compatibilty problems between the deployment version and the local development site.

I encrypted my web.config file and I copied this file to the production server. But I get an error. But without encrypting - it's ok. I used:
C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFramework64v4.0.30319aspnet_regiis -pef "appSettings" "C:inetpubwwwrootSite1" -prov RsaProtectedConfigurationProvider
I don't have access to IIS. Is it possible to encrypt config file and everything works?

If I create a custom error page in my web.config file, how do I retrieve error details in the error page?
So with ...
<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="/error/error.aspx">
<error statusCode="404" redirect="/error/404.aspx" />
</customErrors>
I am referring to errors generated by my asp.net. For example I created a sample page and wrote 'throw new Exception("some error")' as a test. How can I retrieve an instance of the exception or exception details in my "/error/error.aspx" page? Currently in my error page if I query Server.GetLastError() the return value is null.

by looking at using the XmlDocument and creating elements and attributes and then inserting them into the document. Pretty soon this looked like a massive amount of work for all the elements I have to add.What are the repercussions of treating the config file as one big long text string and doing a replace at certain points to add my entries. Something like this...
private void InsertXMLElement()
{
StringBuilder webConfig = new StringBuilder();
// get the file into a stringbuilder for manipulation
using (var sr = new StreamReader("C:web.config"))
{
webConfig.Append(sr.ReadToEnd());

My company has a server running Windows 2003, IIS 6.0, Web Deployment tool 1.1. I also have a development machine running Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. I can't get the Publish command to work (gives me "can't contact MSDEPLOYAGENTSERVICE" even though I know it's running), so a couple days ago I built a publish package, copied it over, and ran it, which worked.oday I thought WebDeploy was having problems (turned out the problem was between the keyboard and the chair) so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it from the WPI. Now when I try to run the package I get
Error: The metabase path 'Default Web Site/MyWebsite_deploy' is not supported.
Paths must be of the format '/lm/w3svc/<siteid>/ROOT/...'.
Error: The metabase key '/Default Web Site/ROOT/MyWebsite_deploy' could not be found.
Error: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))
Error count: 1.
I have the virtual directory allready installed under Default Web Site.

I have been using the aspnet_regiis to encrypt my web configs in .net 2.0. I have recently moved my application to .net 4 and the encryption runs without any issues but when I try to view the site, I get a 500.19 error "Configuration section encryption is not supported".
I have verified that my web config contains "<validation validateIntegratedModeConfiguration="false" />"

I'm preparing to deploy a ASP.NET web application. The target server has already a previous version of my web application with parameters specified on the web.config file.
In the new version of this web application, the web.config file contains new sections I would like they appear into the target web.config file on the server.
However I can't find the way to merge the new web.config sections into the existing web.config file ?
Does I have to do it programmatically, or is there a tool to merge the both files during installation ? (I'm using Web Setup Project).

We have created a new cname for our subdomain website. The new website is working properly with cname. We do have .net application inside the webiste which is not working with cname. For eg,1. http://servername/_folder1/app/mypage.aspx (Accessing .net application (App) website without cname)2. http://NewDomian.xxxx/app/mypage.aspx (Accessing .net application (App) website with cname)The first case is working perfectly, but when I access the second url, I got the following error.Description:
