Creating A Custom GridView Control That Supports DynamicData?
Mar 4, 2010
I wanted to make a simple data-entry web application, thinking Dynamic Data would save me time.
But it turns out that the GridView doesn't even support basic user interface scenarios such as inserting a new row.
Since the project I'm building will incorporate this scenario a lot, I'm considering creating my own grid-view control that does exactly what I need.
Is it difficult to develop a web control that supports dynamic data? Are there a lot of complicated hooks that rely on closed-source functionality in the .NET framework?
Or is it as simple as making the control data-bindable and having a DataSourceObject property?
I'm trying to implement an ASP.NET DataBoundControl that supports two-way databinding. Unfortunatelly I can't find any documentation on how to do this on the web and even Dino Esposito in his ASP.NET 2.0 Advanced Topics only handles one-way databinding (also the contact form on his blog isn't working). Can anyone provide me with documentation or samples on how to do this?
i'm developing a webusercontrol, that has very properties, properties are of custome types (not primitive), so i want user can edit properties in grid property. i want something like gridview here is a portion of my code:
I am creating a custom control by inheriting a server control, say LinkButton. There are properties like "BorderColor" available in LinkButton. Let's say, I don't want this particular property to be available when I create an instance of the custom control.
I want to completely hide this particular property (I don't want to override it but disable it.)
how to implement a custom role provider which has support for parent and child roles?
I have a requirement to have high level Role permissions as per the usual Role provider functionality. However, I also have a requirement to further breakdown permissions into sub roles. I toyed with the idea of having further role instances for sub permissions but I'd prefer to have a native solution which allows for sub roles.
In this scenario, the "Admin" role is actually 2 distinct roles, one for IT and one for Extranet scenarios. Ideally, there is no association between the 2 "Admin" roles because they are unique sub roles.
[Edit]: Following Igor's comment I feel I should clarify. The aspnetdb is already hosting multiple applications and therefore the use of the Application Name is not possible to segregate the sub roles as it is already being used to seperate the roles by application.
here's a situation and I would appreciate your response.
I have programmatically created the Wizard control:
Page_Load(obj s, evargs e) { Wizard ClaimDetailWizard = new Wizard(); foreach(int item in selectedItems) { //create new step //added custom control to new step //add step to wizard } //added wizard to a placeholder on a page }
Based on List I get from Session i added new steps to my wizard To each step I had added a custom control
Each custom control in tern contains another custom Gridview Control in it.
So here's the problem when the page loads for example for two steps. All is good Wizard does what it's supposed to do.
But when I try to use sorting or paging in that custom Gridview. Somehow it displays the gridview I should see in the next step of the wizard.
Also what I'm noticing through debugging. Is that when I press next in the wizard I go back to the original page where I do all of the code specified above, and it recreates the wizzard. But it goes to the next step. Is this the way wizard supposed to work? Just doesn't seem very efficient.
I want to create a map control which will be a server side control.I want to have it as a tool in the toolbox. The above control will contain providers that will fetch maps from the following sources:
1) WMS 2) Oracle Spatial DB 3) Google 4) MS Virtual earth.
How to create the providers for the different map sources? Then I hav to create different screens which will take the parameters and send them to the map preoviders. The map providers will send the generated map to a map control (could be a active X control) or something else. The map control should also be capable of performing standard functions like pan, zoom etc. Pls give some idea as well as source code on how to start with it.
I'm trying to add a validation support to DropDownList by creating a custom control inheriting from DropDownList:
public class MyDropDown: DropDownList, INamingContainer { private const string ValidatorID = "Validator"; private RequiredFieldValidator _validator;
[Code]....
My class implements INamingContainer because I wanted to avoid naming conflicts. Unfortunately when I try using this control I get the following exception:
Unable to find control id 'MDD' referenced by the 'ControlToValidate' property of 'MDD_Validator'
This is happening beause for INamingContainer FindControl(NamingContainerId) returns null.
When I remove INamingContainer implementation and set validator ID in the following way:
As a starting point for creating custom controls, I would like to make a control that simply displays a number. If we imagine the .ascx file contains nothing except for a literal control, and the code behind sets that value to 1.
I then want to be able to do myControl.increment(); This will run some javascript that increases the value of the literal control.
I could inject a javascript into the page, such as pseudocode:
Within an existing ASP.NET page I've created the following layout, which is a tabbed header and content area. When the tabs are clicked (using JQuery) I show the relevant content, and hide all the other content for that respective tab, like so...
I'd like to expand this functionality to make it into a User Control, so that I could re-use the code more easily. Once the control is created, I'd like to be able to use it like this:[Code]....
where I can start learning how to do this, or offer direct help on the code? I've read many tutorials for creating controls using existing controls (e.g. custom labels etc) but they are all too simple. With the above, do I need to create a ContentArea control first, then work onto the TabbedControl? How do I get ASP.NET to render out the contents of my ContentArea (including ASP.NET controls that are contained within it)?
I want to create a completely new control instead of extending an existing one. I have found a few articles on the net, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for. I've created Custom User controls in Win Forms before and thought it would be somewhat the same in ASP.NET, but it does not seem so. Many articles talk about a Web Control Library template which doesn't seem to be available when creating a New Project, but is available when adding a New item to an existing ASP.NET forms project in VS2008.
I have extended control by using the ASP.NET Server Control template. But all you get with is a .cs file. How do design a brand new control with that? What I want is to create a control from scratch, with postback functionality, and that compiles to a DLL. Am I going about this all wrong? Should I rather be looking at the ASP.NET Server Control Project Template? If so, How do I create a brand new control with the ASP.NET Server Control?I'm working with VS2008 SP1, .net 3.5, and C#.
I recently got a form to work with the "HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name.ToString" String. That basic idea was I needed a hidden form field so that each record submitted would include the UserName of the user logged in to the membership. However, whenever I try to create a custom query for the gridview, it doesn't submit. how I would go about doing this? Code as below:
I have been searching a lot about how to create custom server control also creating controls like some third party controlsbut i cant find any resource regarding that, most of the links explained only basic things with custom label, hypher link like that but i wish to learn bit advanced including fundamental concepts.so can any one show me the link/ebook about concepts behind building a re-usable control (properties and property grid integration in VS/VWD, event handlers, rendering, design-time UI, default tag-prefix and naming, toolbox icon, etc)
I have a question regarding the GridView and the Control Designer of it.
I've made a composite control inherited of the GridView. I would like to make some new created BoundField controls available in the designer of the GridView control? So that I can select the custom BoundField control from the Available fields list.
I have a page here with a few list views on it that are all bound to Linq data sources and they seem to be working just fine.I want to add validation such that when a checkbox (IsVoid on the object) is checked, comments must be entered (VoidedComments on the object).
Here's the bound object's OnValidate method:
partial void OnValidate(ChangeAction action) { if (action == ChangeAction.Update) [code]....
Despite there being a dynamic validator on the page referencing the same ValidationGroup as the dynamic control, when the exception fires, it's caught in JavaScript and the debugger wants to break in. The message is never delivered to the UI as expected.
I find myself always repeating code when it comes to gridviews. I want to build a usercontrol so I can just set a datasource andcolumn types etc and I can use the same control over and over in different projects.
