Custom DataSource Extender - Where To Grab The Output Data Of The DataSource
Jun 9, 2010
I dream of creating a control which works something like this:
<asp:SqlDataSource
id="dsFoo"
runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:conn %>"
SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure"
SelectCommand="cmd_foo">
</asp:SqlDataSource>
<Custom:DataViewSource
id="dvFoo"
runat="server"
rowfilter="colid > 10"
datasourceid="dsFoo">
</Custom:DataViewSource>
I can accomplish the same thing in the code behind by executing cmd_foo, loading the results into a DataTable, then loading them into a DataView with a RowFilter. The goal would be to have multiple DataViews for one DataSource with whatever special filters I wish to apply to the select portion of the DataSource. I could imagine extending this to be more powerful. I tried peaking at this and this but am a bit confused on a few points. Currently, my main issue is being unsure where to grab the output data of the DataSource so I can stick it into a DataTable.

My stored procedure requires an input parameter -- @CompanyName -- and has one output parameter - @CompanyID. This is how I always handled stored procedures that did NOT use output parameters. How do I grab the value coming from the output parameter?

i have the following objects:
Event:
- EventID (PK)
- GroupID (FK)
- StartDate
Group:
- GroupID (PK)
- GroupName
What i need to do is select the last 5 events for each group using LINQ to Objects. I tried starting with:
[Code]....
But i'm not sure how i only take the last 5 per group.
The simple way of doing this is to get the groups and then have a property on that which returns the last 5 events but if i databind this i will have to use a nested Repeater/ListView. Ideally i would like to have a row foreach event.

I am trying to allow users to grab their stored procs and call certain ones from within code. I can get the stored procedures and then fill a dropdown with them, but what I cannot find at this point is how to get the parameters that each stored procedure needs. I would like, once an SP is chosen from the dropdown to make a call to the db with that sp name and grab its paramter list so I can report what needs to be sent in to the user.

I've got a requirement to add a feature that will save off a dynamically created asp.net page so it can be recalled and reviewed at a later date. I was thinking of just adding a 'Save' button to the page and in the code-behind using VB to write the output HTML to a varchar(MAX) field in my database.Does anyone know how (in VB) to grab the entire page HTML so it can be inserted into a database?

I have a user control, named productslist.ascx. On pruductslist.ascx, I am using Entity Datasource and a QUERY EXTENDER and LISTview. I have a page Defualt.aspx. On Defualt.aspx, I have a TEXTBOX with a SUBMIT button for searching the site. Everthing works fine so far, AS LONG as the results of the Search is posted back to Default.aspx. What I want is for the results of the search to be posted on a different page.
So I created a new page, Results.aspx and set the postback url to it.
What I want is that when a user clicks the Submit button, after entering a search string, the text the entered is used to execute the query on Productslist.ascx and the results displayed on RESULTS.ASPX. Again, everything works fine as long as the results are posted on same page hosting the usercontrol, BUT I want the postback url to be a different page. I am coding in VB and VS 2010.

We have a stored procedure which creates and returns as output the next value in line:
[Code]....
Yes, the dullards who created this system not only failed to use an identity for the primary key of this table, they then proceeded to add 1 to a varchar column to create the new value, thus insuring it can never be anything but numeric.
Sigh. I'm told we cannot address that obvious deficiency now, and we have to leave the column as varchar. Double sigh.
If I execute this sproc from SSMS, the hh_num variable is returned as expected:
[Code]....
However, when I run it through the application, the parameter I set up as output does not get its Value attribute changed:
[Code]....
I've verified that the "@hh_num" maintains its direction and name through the ExecuteNonQuery call, but its Value remains an empty string.

I have a gridview that has the header row modified in order to add new records; the gridview is bound to a sqldatasource control. In my code behind, i handle the insert in the following manner:
[Code]....
I know the insert is occuring because the new record shows up in the grid after the databind, but the output parameter is not picking up the scope_identity() value...what am i doing wrong with the output parameter?

I am reading a column value from the database. The field is defined as 30 charswide. If the vale read is less than 30 chars, I need to pad it on the right side withblanks. So that the value when written to a text file will appear to be left justified.How can this be done? I know how to right justify like below. But how do I left justifyand pad on the right side with blanks?Right(LTRIM(RTRIM(CustomerNum) + SPACE(30)),30) As CustNum -- This right justifies.This will NOT left justify so I am stuck :LEFT(SPACE(30) + LTRIM(RTRIM(CustomerNum)),30) As CustNum -- This WIL NOT justify as I wish

I have stored procedure that increments a number. I am supposed to use the newly generated number and insert it into a table. My question is how do I execute the stored procedure, with a hardcoded value of 3 that it expects as a paramter, receive the number it generates as the output parameter and use it in the insert statement.
Here is the stored procedure code:
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[Generate]
@myid int,
@next_no int output
AS
update mytable
set mynumber=mynumber + 1, @next_no = number
where myid=@myid
RETURN
Here is my insert statement, that I tried and it failed:
EXEC @GetNo = Generate '3'
Insert into customers (custid, name, phone ) values
( @GetNo, 'MSFT', '800-345-5678')

MAX_TEXT is integer = 2147483647 Data type 0x23 is a deprecated large object, or LOB, but is marked as output parameter. Deprecated types are not supported as output parameters. Use current large object types instead.

I need to create one custom text box control which should be bind with data base.
I am referring following link...
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.ui.webcontrols.databoundcontrol.aspx
I used DataBoundControl to create my control but i am not able to do it properly.
public class SimpleTextBoxControl : DataBoundControl
{
private TextBox nameTextBox;
public string DataTextField
{
get
{
object o = ViewState["DataTextField"];
return ((o == null) ? string.Empty : (string)o);
}
set
{
ViewState["DataTextField"] = value;
}
}
[
Bindable(true),
Category("Data"),
DefaultValue(""),
Description("The text to display on the link."),
Localizable(true),
PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerDefaultProperty)
]
public virtual string DataTexValue
{
get
{
string s = (string)ViewState["Text"];
return (s == null) ? String.Empty : s;
}
set
{
ViewState["Text"] = value;
}
}
protected override void PerformDataBinding(IEnumerable retrievedData)
{
if (retrievedData == null)
return;
base.PerformDataBinding(retrievedData);
Controls.Clear();
nameTextBox = new TextBox { ID = "nameTextBox" };
foreach (object dataItem in retrievedData)
{
if (DataTextField.Length > 0)
{
nameTextBox.Text = DataBinder.GetPropertyValue(dataItem, DataTextField, null);
}
DataTexValue = nameTextBox.Text;
}
this.Controls.Add(nameTextBox);
}
}

I'm trying to databind my GridView to a custom datasource where one of it's members/fields is a collection.
Custom object Entry
public List<EntryHour> Hours { get; set; }
In practical terms, one row consists of some normal text fields which is easy to handle. However, the Hours field is the nut to crack.
How do I, in the GridView markup bind my textfields in question to the Hours field (which consists of 7 items allways)?

Well I'm not familiar with SP's yet, and I can't find a single example of what I want to do. basically I want to retrieve the town & county where the customers id are equal (note there will only ever be 1 result)
I can't figure out how to address the results to be stored within the output variables.

I'm currently trying to build a html table from the results of a sql data reader. As my table has multiple records, I want the code to loop through the reader and output the details on individual lines of the page. In ASP I have done this in the past using something like
[Code]....
but as I am using data readers I'm not sure what the equivalent is.
