Create Multi-column Data Entry Form Using CSS In .Net?

Sep 20, 2010

While converting a desktop application to a web app, I've run across my ignorance when attempting to implement a multi-column data entry form using CSS. I'm resolved to avoid using tables for this type of thing, and while I found a good reference to laying out a data entry form, I can find nothing that applies to multiple-column layouts like this one:

C# - Prevent Entry Of HTML Into Web Form Textbox?

Sep 2, 2010

I have several text boxes in an ASP.NET Web Form. I want to ensure that users are not entering HTML into those text boxes. However, I'm not sure how to prevent HTML from being entered. Because of this, I decided that I want to only allow alphanumeric characters, spaces, exclamation point, sharp sign, dollar signs, percentage signs, carets, stars, and left and right parenthesis. I'm omitting the ampersand because I do not want them entering something like "<script&rt;..."

Web Forms :: DropDownList Control Spawns New Entry Form

Aug 26, 2010

I have a form written in C# with a SQL database to hold the data. At the end of the form, there is a DropDownList control that is blank upon the initial entry. If a user selects anything in that drop down box, upon saving the form, a new form with the same format will be created and the last form will be locked for editing. I have no idea on how to implement this or how to start on this.I'm kinda new to ASP.NET so bare with me please.

Web Forms :: Collect Customer Complaints And Stores Into Database - How To Entry Form Works

Dec 16, 2010

I am writing an application that collects Customer Complaints and stores them into a database. I want to keep it simple so that the Managers without much web knowledge can use it. This is how my Entry Form works. The Manager selects the name and id of the staff by choosing a location. This loads ids and names of the Staff in that location from the database. Then the Manager rates the complaint based on the severity and enters the comments. I was able to use Session objects to get all these values from the Entry page to the Confirmation page so the Managers can check again. This is where it gets tricky. If there is a correction they have to make by trying to go back to the Entry page, the values are lost (esp. Drop-down ones).

MVC :: The Form Is Submitted, The Server Side Validation Trips And I'm Told The Entry Is Invalid?

Jun 27, 2010

I've got my validation wired up through my Service layer, and my Birthdate property looks like this.

[Code]....

The client side validation works properly if I input something like `12/12/1990` but when the form is submitted, the server side validation trips and I'm told the entry is invalid. I'm using the jQuery-UI Datepicker to input the date, however when I disable the datepicker, the problem persists.Am I missing something here? I thought the client side and server side would be the same thing. If I remove

[Code]....

Then the form submits. It's obviously something to do with the Regex.

Web Forms :: Form Is Only Partially Visible When In Design View?

Apr 18, 2010

When I try to look at my masterpage/form in design view it's only partially visible. It's shifted so far to the left that i can only see the right half of it. I don't understand why. I'm using negative margins to center the form at runtime, which is working great. It appears to be shifted to left about half of it's width, which would equal the negative margin.

CSS for negative margin:

[Code]....

Is this a deficiency with the rendering in Design view? Is it a discrepancy between the way a browser would interpret the styles and the was the Design view interprets them?

AJAX :: Drag-and-drop, Toolkit Controls Onto A Visual Studio 2010 Design Form?

Mar 13, 2011

I installed the AJAX Toolkit (for .NET4) onto a new Toolbox tab in Visual Studio 2010. However, when I try to drag any of these controls onto my Web form in design mode, they won't stick. My mouse pointer changes to 'disabled' (a circle with a diagonal line thru the middle) as soon as it hovers anywhere over my target form. Is there some additional action I need to take to make VS "recognize" these AJAX Toolkit controls?

Web Forms :: Using Asp For Data Entry And Best Practices / Housing That Data Until The End Of The Scripting Has Been Completed?

I am developing an ASP.Net 2.0 project that a call center will use for their scripting and data collection. Each screen will present the call center associate with a question and depending on their answer, will move on to the next screen. My question is what is the best practice for housing that data until the end of the scripting has been completed (i.e. in a Dataset or datatable), where should the storage container be declared and what's the best way to control the back button so it doesn't lose the data and try to repost?

How To Manage Complex Data Entry Validation

Oct 18, 2010

I feel like I am fighting against the current when I develop ASP.NET Webform apps. I frequently run into the same problems, and while I eventually find some kind of workaround i'm never fully satisfied with the results.

Here is an example of a typical problem:

The design requires a grid or grid-like result set. This result set is pulled from a database, however, there are additional controls on each row that are not data bound, but their contents are used to insert data into other records.

A good example of this would be displaying a list of products, then adding selected products to a shopping cart based on values entered into quantity fields, and options selected per product. Throw into the mix that you have to allow multiple lines to be added to the cart at the same time, and it starts to get more complex.

Let's add to that mix that you can't select certain products together (mutually exclusive), that you can only select a certain number of one product, but not another, that prices may change while the user is selecting their items, that you you get an overall discount per item based on quantity purchased (both per item and overall order), that you are using a line of credit and cannot exceed the line of credit, nor can you buy more of a given item than an arbitrary amount set in your account or in the product by your account representitive (think certain over the counter medications that the government limits how many you can buy), etc.. etc.. etc..

What starts out as a simple grid with an add to cart becomes a hopeless mess of business logic, which then of course requires validation and notification to the user of various errors in their choices.

How does one deal with very complex data entry schemes in asp.net? How do you even begin to design a piece of software to do all this?
