I have two tables:
GalleryAlbums and GalleryPhotos.
I would like to Select all entries in the GalleryAlbums table, but Order them (DESC) by date values in a column (upload_date) on the GalleryPhotos table. Both tables have a column "album_id"
A little confused how I might write this statement.
I have set up Linq to sql. I now need to fill a formview with a select that does a join across a few tables. Have not been able to find any example or tuts that go beyond the simple select. Any suggestions? Can this even be done?

select top 1 * from table1 t1
inner join table2 t2 on t2.productid = t1.id
order by t1.buydate desc
what is done first:
- find if there's a matching record in t2 through the join
OR
- sort the results in t1 based on the buydate?
And when I have a large database with many records in both t1 and t2, what are possible performance issues I might hit?
I need to join some tables to get the matching records. I often have to ask around to see how certain tables could be joined. Is there any way to query the information schema or some thing else to see what columns/values match in certain tables in order to figure out how tables should be joined.

My first datatable is this:
SELECT DISTINCT a.name, a.create_date, a.Modify_Date, a.Object_Id
FROM dbname.sys.objects a
and my 2nd datatable is the same, but from a different server connection string
SELECT DISTINCT b.name, b.create_date, b.Modify_Date, b.Object_Id
FROM dbName.sys.objects b
Basically, I want to compare which procedures are on one server and not the other (dev and prod)
So after I have my 2 datatables i want to create a data relationship on the name and then do a left join to see whats in a and not b.
I have two tables namely "CategoryMapping" and "PartnerCategory"...The partnercategory table has foreign key with categorymapping on CategoryID...

Here I am using ASP.NET using C# and my backend in active directory.
I can join with a regular SQL table fine but this won't work:
SELECT normalTbl.*, tmp.fld1 FROM normalTbl
LEFT JOIN #Temp tmp ON tmp.joinID = normalTbl.joinID
All tmp.fld1 values are shown as NULL even though fld1 contains valid values and the joinID matches the normalTbl (when I call SELECT * from #Temp). If I do the same exact thing with a regular table, fld1 shows the correct value. What am I doing wrong?
My query was SELECT ID FROM TBLCARS WHERE (ID IN (1, 5, 3, 6))
this will usualy produces the result 1,3,5,6 order.But i want the result in the specefied order of ids.ie:1,5,3,6;ie;first get the row with id 1,then with id 5,then id 3,and last 6.

Select statement across three tables
To write a join query with or condition. It means a query has two inner join, here it is possible to fetch the records, if one inner join is true and other is false. I got a record when only two join conditions are true.

I am trying to count records belonging to a certain person in three different tables in a single select statement. The database looks like this:

I want to select the number of goals, assist and cards a player has in a specific tournament. I tried with this query but then the goal and card column shows the sum of the number of rows matching the playerid in the Goal table and the Card table...For example if there is two matching rows in the goal table and three matching rows in the card table, I get 5 in both these columns in the resultset.

..and then select the records I want based on RowNum it seems like I select ALL records in the first query anyway. I guess I want to do something like SELECT TOP @PageSize FROM Orders...
I'm facing a problem in our current running application. There is a table in database which has 67 columns,among these 18 columns are nvarchar(max) datatype and contains 30K records. Problem is now that SELECT * FROM myTable it takes around 3 to 4 seconds. Which is degrading our application's performance.

I have three tables I'd like to make entries to when the user completes a wizrd i've setup on a web form.
The First Step - The user enters basic information about their "Case". The table looks like so:
db_Cases - CaseId PK auto int, CustomerId, etc fields
The Second Step - The user enters information about the "Debtors" that are related to this "Case". Think of this as being products....The only difference is these records wont be used over and over again like a product would. The user may need to enter data about several "Debtors", just like if you needed to show several different products on an invoice. For example the user may need to enter information about a husband and wife. This means two entries in the "Debtors" table. The table looks like so:
db_Debtors - DebtorId PK auto int, etc fields
The Third Step - Here's my problem. This step needs to make entries into a third table called "CaseDetails". Again, this is just like if you were creating an invoice with several different products on it, where you would want to get a subtotal of each product's cost. The table looks like so:
db_CaseDetails - CaseDeatailId PK auto int, CaseId int, DebtorId, int
* When this table is later viewed, It will reflect all "Debtors" attached to the specific "Case" being viewed.
The first two steps aren't a problem, I pretty well have that handled in the wizard. BUT How do I create the entries in the "CaseDetails" table when the user finishes?
My idea right now is..... Considering the "Debtors" will be re-used but only on rare occations, I'm thinking I should just add the "CaseId" that was created in step one, to the "Debtors" table at the same time the "Debtor" is created. So the table would look like so.
db_Debtors - DebtorId PK auto int, CaseId int, Name, Address, etc
I have a table that contains item data. If the item is a particular type further information exists to describe the item. The additional information isn't that heavy however the number of records in relation to the main file will be quite small (less than
5%).
So I have 2 scenarios:1) Put the additional data in the main table and take tha hit on storage
2) Create an additional table and link the 2 together
If we were talking huge amounts of data I can understand that 2) would be the obvious choice but given the simplicity should 1) be a consideration?
If 2) is the answer - is it possible to create a dependency between the 2 tables when the item is 'that' particular type. In other words wnsure the addition data is populated for the required items and not others.
My dataset table data is from multiple tables (showing on a gridview),How to update the database tables using batch udpate on clicking submit, if the data is from a signle table, no problem, but I am not sure how to handle if the datais from mulitiple tables? If I have related tables, do I need put them in differet tables in the dataset?
