DataSource Controls :: ADOMD Connections To Accessing SSAS Cubes

Mar 19, 2010

I am new to using ADOMD for accessing SSAS cubes. I am having an issue with concurrency. I am using ADOMD to connect to SSAS 2005 in an ASP.Net 2008 application. When a user executes an MDX query and the ASP.net page opens an ADOMD connection, a second user that tries to execute an MDX query gets "a connection is already open" error. I don't understand how ADOMD works. Does it open only one connection for all users because ASP.Net is using a single account for all connections from the web server? I do not have this problem when using ADO.net in the same manner.

DataSource Controls :: How To Detect Smo Remote Connections

Apr 19, 2010

I've been playing about for ages in an attempt to get a simple bit of code that can detect whether or not SQL Server is listening remotely or just locally.. My pretty lame attempt so far is as follows:

[Code]....

I'm sure there must be a better way to do this! Aside from the fact that this code fails to work properly.

sp.IPAddresses contains:

- 127.0.0.1
- 0.0.0.0
- 10.0.0.10

When I used Surface Area Manager > Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections and set Remote Connections to "Local connections only" sp.IPAddresses still contains the same addresses.

DataSource Controls :: Managing SQL Connections In A Website?

Jun 18, 2010

My lecturer insists that a web site should NOT have a static SQL connection as its not good practice (didn't explain why) but then I thought that if one makes instances of an SQL connection everytime I want to save, delete or edit then surely thats a bottleneck as I would need to everytime establish a connection and then do the save process. From what I have read online, the process of establishing a connection to the server is the longest (about 5 to 10ms)...

How would one manage their SQL connection. At the moment I do something like:

DataSource Controls :: SET ARITHABORT ON For Connections In Linq To SQL?

Jun 4, 2010

the SQL connection option ARITHABORT is OFF for OLEDB connections, which I assume Linq To SQL is using. owever I need it to be ON. The reason is that my DB contains some indexed views, and any insert/update/delete operations against tables that are part of an indexed view fail if the connection does not have ARITHABORT ON. Even selects against the indexed view itself fail if the WITH(NOEXPAND) hint is used (which you have to use in SQL Standard Edition to get the performance benefit of the indexed view).Is there somewhere in the data context I can specify I want this option ON? Or somewhere in code I can do it??I have managed a clumsy workaround, but I don't like it .... I have to create a stored procedure for every select/insert/update/delete operation, and in this proc first run SET ARITHABORT ON, then exec another proc which contains the actual select/insert/update/delete. In other words the first proc is just a wrapper for the second. It doesn't work to just put SET ARITHABORT ON above the select/insert/update/delete code.

DataSource Controls :: .Net SqlClient Data Provider - Connections?

Jan 19, 2010

We have developed web application using Asp.net, C# and SQL Server. However, When viewing the Process Info Tool for MS SQL Server, we see lots of processes (150-1000+) with Status = 'sleeping' and Command = 'AWAITING COMMAND' (Application = '.Net SqlClient Data Provider')The DataReaders and Connections are all being closed, but still the sleeping connections are accumulating. The problem becomes so severe that we finally get a "General Network Error" or a "Internal system error" and if we restart IIS. We have tested a lot but no success.

DataSource Controls :: Server Profiler / ReportServer Has Four Connections After Restart?

Jan 22, 2010

I think I have a problem that I never noticed before. I was just recently (as in tonight) shown the SQL Server Profiler. I noticed that on a video that I watched there profiler did not move unless there was a query to the database, thus making it easy to see what exactly was going on. When I opened mine for the first time and ran it I am getting 9 logs every say 5 seconds. They consist of;

Audit Logout
RPC:Completed
Audit Login
RPC:Completed
RPC:Completed
SQL: BatchStarting
SQL: BatchCompleted
SQL: BatchStarting
SQL: BatchCompleted

Does anyone know if this is normal or my database just working way to hard?

I just restarted the server and checked databases for active connections now that I know nothing is running, and found the one database that is causing the problem... ReportServer has 4 connections after my restart. Should I leave this alone? Is it normal to have this reporting constantly going on?

DataSource Controls :: Verify That SQL Server Is Configured To Allow Remote Connections?

Dec 8, 2010

I am trying to make a small utility program to update a table in a database.

I made it as a asp.net 2008 project and connected to the development SQL server(which is located locally).It is working fine.

Then I try to move this to production, I realized that the sql server is located in another state and I can not connect it this way.( connection string from webconfig and open the connection).I can not change any configuration of the prod sqlserver.

I get error like sql server does not accept remote connection.( Verify that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections).

DataSource Controls :: Connections Are Being Pooled Even With "Pooling=False"?

Jan 27, 2010

Recently I bumped a problem with an asp.net application where seemingly random errors were thrown, although they were all related to the use of a connection object. Coming from Classic ASP, I wrote my pages by creating a connection object at the top of the page, and using that connection throughout the page. The connection object was opened whenever something had to be done with the database and closed immediately after.

Connectionstring:
"Data Source=<server>;Initial Catalog=<catalog>;Integrated Security=false;user=<user>;password=<password>;Pooling=False;"
So pooling=false.

ADO.NET :: OLAP Query Failures Using An ADOMD Connection?

Oct 27, 2010

I have a live working website (ASP.NET 3.5) that pulls data from an OLAP cube on a remote server without any problems. However I now need to move the website to a different web server, and for reasons unknown I cannot get the OLAP queries to work in the new location.

I have installed the same versions of .NET Framework (3.5) and ADOMD.NET (8.0) on both servers, and the website pages were copied across servers with no changes made, so this can't be a coding issue. However I get errors like the following when the new site tries to query the OLAP cube:

[Code]....

(Note: run_olap_query is my method that attempts to run the query). The error would there is a mistake in the syntax of the MDX query, however that is definitively not the case. I have retrieved the MDX that the page attempted to run at the error reporting stage and have run it manually in Analysis Services - it returns results with no complaints. The same MDX queries are also still running quite happily on the original website.The only notable difference I can spot between the servers is that the original server has SQL Server 2000 installed and the new server has no version of SQL Server, but I would not expect the site to need SQL Server on the local machine to run these queries. Does anyone know if this is the case? I'm somewhat stumped as to what the cause of the issue is here, and am completely out of ideas as to where to look.

P.S. Here is my code, though I do not think it will be relevant:

DataSource Controls :: Accessing The Data In The Objectdatasource?

Feb 14, 2010

I have a webpage that uses a formview. The formview gets the data from the objectdatasource which connects to a query in a table adapter.

I wanted to add a hyperlink in the page right below the formview that will "hyperlink" to another page passing parameters. Those parameters are values from the formview.

Can I just access the parameters of objectdatasource from outside the formview as follows?(it isn't working)?:

<asp:HyperLink
ID="HyperLink215"
NavigateUrl='<%# Eval("VIN", "Contact.aspx?Subject={0}") %>'
runat="server">Contact Us Regarding This Vehicle</asp:HyperLink>

If not, can I access those parameters in codebehind and do a redirect from there? How do I access the data of objectdatasource from codebehind? If I can do that, I could just put a button. Then in the button's click even, I could do the redirect.

What I then want to do is to update the database according to which row has been ticked. I have so far the following code that adds each value to an array, which I was then hoping to access in the sql query i.e. Update table set value = value where id = (id's added to array)..

Code as follows - so far I'm just displaying the count of values in the array to make sure they are actually being added:

DataSource Controls :: LINQ And C# - Accessing More Then 2 Tables In A Query

Apr 23, 2010

As the title sugests, I am missing a (basic?) concept as I teach myself asp.net, linq, and C#. It has been awhile since I've done anything object oriented, so I don't know how much that is impacting this gap in my understanding. Anyhow, here is what I am trying to do. I have three SQL Server tables: PERSON, POSITION, AREA. There is a 1 to many relationship between PERSON and POSITION, and a 1 to 1 relationship between POSITION and AREA. Given the following code I verify who the person is who has logged into the browser:

[Code]....

I want to be able to return all of the AREAs the person is able to access, based on the position they currently hold. I am able to easily do this in a SQL Server query, and I am sure I can do this with a SQL stored procedure once I pass the EMPLOYEE_ID to the procedure. However, I would rather do this in the page_load event, and load the returned results into gridview1 for the viewer. The issue I am running into is in building the LINQ query. When I try to build it, I can only get access to two of the three tables, depending on which table I select with db. Is it possible to access all three tables in the same query?

DataSource Controls :: Accessing The Result Set Of A Stored Procedure - How To Fix This Error

Jul 27, 2010

I'm programming a webpage in ASP.NET which displays a list of students not listed as participants in something, and upon clicking a student name shows you a brief summary of their details, so the user can ensure they're selecting the right person. Each student is identified by a unique ID.

My code currently correctly obtains their ID, adds it as a parameter to my stored procedure and executes the procedure;

[Code]....

However, when I try to access the results, with say dv.Table.Rows[0], I get the following error:

[Code]....

Upon debugging, there don't seem to be any results returned... when running just the stored procedure in SQL Server with the same data, it does return a single row, as expected.

DataSource Controls :: Accessing Existing SQL Server Database With VS 2008?

Jan 13, 2010

I am attempting to write my very first ASP.NET application, it will simply display the contents of an SQL server database table in a Gridview. This is just a first step, my eventual intention is rewrite a set of VB6 applications I wrote some years ago. But I need to walk before I can run.

I have already created an SQL Server database containing all the tables used by the VB6 applications.

How do I link this database to my ASP.NET application. Previously (on another computer) I have simply opened "My Computer" and then navigated to the .mdf file (e.g. northwnd.mdf) and then dragged and dropped it into App_Data in Visual Studio. However when I try that on my own machine, with my own data, I get an "Access Denied" message.

How can I not have access to my own data on my own computer? What am doing wrong?

I am running Visual Studio 2008 on a Windows 7 Ultimate machine, with SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition (or which ever one installs with VS 2008).
