I'm working on a web form that submits data to a database. I'm using C# as my code behind language and am using LINQ to SQL with a LINQ data source. I'm working in the code-behind page to format/concatenate the user's data before going into the database.
Everything looks like it's formatted and aligned correctly. I am not receiving any errors or warnings, but on submission none of my data gets entered into the database.
My question is... how should I troubleshoot or go about finding out what's keeping my data from being entered into the db.

Mar 1, 2010I'm sure this has been answered many times already, but I still can't seem to find exactly how to search for this issue, so apologies in advance.
Anyway, I have a VB script for entering a row of data into a table by a web user. When this row of data is entered, I wish to take some of the values from the columns of the "primary" table, and have that data automatically create a new row of data in a "secondary" table. I think I'm part of the way there, here is my script:

"ProductsByMfr" is the "primary" table - the table that the user adds data into when the button click event is fired.
"DealerPricing" is a "secondary" table that I wish to have some of the data from the newly-entered row in ProductsByMfr copied into. Am I even close here?

Mar 30, 2010I am learning how to use repeater and datagrid. I've been able to update a datagrid successfully. I have two text box, which take an item description and quantity, save them in a database, and display them back in a datagrid whenever the user access the page again. If the user were to enter a value, let say description ='coffee' and quantity= '15', it would save them in the database properly. However, if the user refreshed the page, a second row with the same value ('coffee', '15') is added to the database again. How can I avoid this from happening?

Oct 20, 2010In my aspx page, I have a formview and a gridview. I am using the insert template of the form to insert an application number and applicant name both of which the user will enter.
I have a insert stored procedure that checks if that same number exist, it won't enter one, if not it will. ID of that table is autoincrement.
If a new number entered, it should show in the gridview as in my query I am asking to show the max ID. The applicatin number in the grid is a hyperlink which allows the user to go to a details page.
My problem: Whenever I click the save button in the formview, the grid becomes visible with the last created number. It is ok if the system allow to enter a new record. But if the number is a duplicate and the system does not enter a new number, still the grid shows with the last created number.
How can I implement what I want to do.

Oct 6, 2010I have done this with a DropDownList but not 2 text boxes that require date info.
With the DropDownList once a itme is selected from the list the GridView gathers the data in a SQL query and displays it in the same page
I want to have the same type of response when the user enters date data in two text boxes. It would be nice that when they exit the 2nd parameter box to show the grid.
Not sure how to do that in SelectParameters and convert the text data to a date.
I am going to use RequiredFieldValidtors but I am not sure what to do to make sure a valid date is entered.

This page also contains a text box and a button, the idea being that the user can then filter the data by entering a value in the text box and clicking on the button to pass the new parameter to the datasource.

Aug 9, 2010I'm trying to create a Formview in ASP.net 3.5. The underlying SQL Server table does not have an identity field based Primary Key. The primary key is a 4 character user entered field. I have created the form and all looks good but I get the following error message when I try to insert a record
Could not find a row that matches the given keys in the original values stored in ViewState. Ensure that the 'keys' dictionary contains unique key values that correspond to a row returned from the previous Select operation.
I thought ViewState was supposed to resolve the issue. I have viewstate enabled on the page and the formview but that doesn't seem to make a difference.
How can I create a form view with a user-entered text field as the primary key and get the b.... thing to work?

I am trying to use the POST method to send the ID from the selected row of a Grid View, I am using a link button set to fire the select command and it has the Post Back URL set, from one page and then retrieve the ID value on another page using an Object Data Source. Also, under the Defining Parameters, I am setting the ID parameter to Form Parameter Source and have entered the Grid Views name in the Form Field.
