i want to insert null in smalldatetime column, when user doesn't select any date from the calender control i want to insert null in the databse, i am using typed dataset in my application.

I have this "SP" that will insert one record to Table 1 and multiple records in Table 2 ...

I am not able to figure out why I am getting the null error at SqlDataSource10.Insert(); I tried running through break points and i checked the Insert statement and it has all the required values .. but I get error saying it cannot insert null into NrNarrativeDays. I have a field of type smalldatetime in a sql table. through a webform, i am trying to insert a blank value(i.e. through A blank text box) but its showing an error that the" value can not be recognized as valid date time". I am using a textbox to insert value to this field. but that text box can also be blank sometimes. plz help.

Not a fan of creation and modifcation data in each table's row but I don't make the rules here. Something about normal comes to mind. Simple method to insert or update data in a table ia EF. Datatype = smalldatetime and no it is not changing across schema. Don't care about milli seconds. In oOrg = null I always fail because of a datatype mismatch.Not sure but didn't M$ make both of these products, and shouldn't the EF know about a smalldatetime when it reads the schema? So what is the fix outside of changing many tables to be datetime which is frowned upon at this piont.

This is the first time I have been working on databases and I am trying to insert data using an object datasource but no data is being inserted and no exception is thrown. I'm not sure where I am going to wrong. I am putting user data into session variables and inserting the session variables into the dataacess class layer and have a try and exception but nothing being thrown. I have a Gridview, lets call it GVDistinctDate which displays Distinct Date in one column only. For example: I got 5 rows, and 1 column where the column only display distinct dates such as 02/04/2010 | 03/04/2010 | 04/04/2010 | 05/04/2010 | 06/04/2010 where obviously this dates come from a table in the database.
Now i want to take those dates in GVDistinctDate and assign it to another gridview, lets call it GVReport, as column Header Text. For this GVReport, the first column would be StudentID where a list of studentid will be displayed, and then starting from the second column onwards, where the Header Text would be the dates from GVDistinctDate, will display a Status of absent or present according to the studentID and the corresponding date. How do it get the dates from GVDistinctDate into the column Header Text of GVReport?
AND how do it display the Present or Absent status based on the studentID in column 1 GVReport and the dates on the Header Text? Below are the codes of how i got the distinct date into GVDistinctDate

Just iterates through the table and looking for any row with the boolean 'checkin' value is True, then it takes the 'id' value of that row and stores it into an array. Is there a way that I can access a another entry, and only that entry, in the table with the 'id' stored in the array?
Like if my data base contained and int, primarykey, `id` value, a boolean, `checkedin` value, and a `time` value, is there a way to access, lets say, the row with `id` equalling 3 and and the checkIn value from that row?
