DataSource Controls :: Parameter Data Changing Between DataSource_Inserting And The BLL Call?

Aug 26, 2010

I have a problem when trying to validate data on insertion (and possibly update, didnt try it yet) .

I use a formview in insert mode, linking to a custom BLL that then link to a DAL to insert data into a table. The problem is the parameter data is changing between the Datasource inserting event and when the BLL insert method is called. 2 field, that cannot be null in the database, have default value added to them. Bot sure how to explain so well so 'ill post some picture explaining :

This is the form I use, I enter only test in the textbox for the value Nom this is the trace for my DataSource_Inserting event, as you can see, only the "Nom" value is non-null But then, right after the event is done and the call is made to the BLL, the value for "Sexe" and "DateDeNaissance" has been changed to some default value, namely 0 and Jan 1, year 1.

This of course is causing problem because if the user does not provide value for "Sexe" and "DateDeNaissance" then I want the DB to raise an ArgumentException, I do not want to have default value inserted. It seem the problem is in my code, the problem happen before the actual Update call. I'm pretty sure the problem is between the Inserting event and the BLL input parameter but I am still beginning in C# and ASP.NET so I have no clue

DataSource Controls :: How To Call TableAdapter Stored Procedure With Nullable Parameter

Jun 24, 2010

I spent about 60 minutes sifting through search engine listings trying to figure this out and couldn't find an answer, so I decided to make this post for others.

Situation: Using a Stored Procedure to insert a row and return the new row ID, explained here. In my case, I used the Idenity_Scope to return the new row, like so:

[Code]....

Next, following steps as described in link above, went into the dataset XSD page, configured the table adapter to use this stored procedure. By default, it wanted my return value to be set to some value, but I set to allow Null (makes sense, since I don't want to pass the value in, I want to get it out, so it should be null to begin with).

Problem: Where I ran into an issue was in the method to call this stored procedure. The intellisense displayed the prototype it was expecting, basicly like this:

DataSource Controls :: Changing Data Of Same Value In The Same Column Of A Datatable?

Mar 18, 2010

I have a datatable that looks as follows:

Make,Ford,0
Model,Fusion,0
Year,2010,0
Make,Ford,1
Model,Focus,1
Year,2010,1

I'd like to loop through each row and replace all the values of the same type in the 3rd column with a different value.

So for example I would change all the 0 to 1234 and all the 1 to 1235. So I'd end up with:

Make,Ford,1234
Model,Fusion,1234
Year,2010,1234
Make,Ford,1235
Model,Focus,1235
Year,2010,1235

Whats the best way to do that ?

DataSource Controls :: Filtering Data (searching) On Parameters (more Than 1 Parameter)

Feb 12, 2010

I want to make data-driven page and ability to filter data on some parameters, for example 3 text boxes and 2 dropdown lists and then show the results by the grid view control.

Actually I like input data in the text boxes and select item from dropdown list and then press "OK" Button and result (filtered data) show in the new page by the grid view.

What I have seen in the quick start tutorial is filtering by one parameter.

DataSource Controls :: Datatable Data Types And Command Parameter Datatype?

Apr 7, 2010

I am using VS 2008.I am building a datatable of records to be inserted into a SQL Server 2005 table.
The program loops through this table and builds a SqlParameter for each DataColumn in the datatable. The SqlParameters are used in the SQL Insert statement.

The field I am having a problem with is of type 'bit' in the database table and has no default value and cannot be nulls. The field is called 'Active' The meaning of this field in the application is Boolean i.e True or False. When inserting the record, I wish to default the field to "False".

When I define the columns in the datatable I am forced to use the following code to build the datatcolumn containing the boolean field i.e. dtcActive.DataType = GetType(Boolean) as there is no GetType(Bit)

Dim dtcActive As New DataColumn("Active")
dtcActive.DataType = GetType(Boolean)
dtcActive.Unique = False
dtcActive.AllowDBNull = False
dtcActive.DefaultValue = False
dtProviderDayDetails.Columns.Add(dtcActive)

However, when I build the SqlParameter I am forced to use this:

If field.ColumnName = "Active" Then
prm.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.Bit
prm.Value = "False"
End If

This is because there is no SqlDbType.Boolean. The problem I have is there is no value I have been able to give the SqlParameter that is accepted by the Insert statement. It complains that the boolean field cannot be null on Insert.

Mar 31, 2010

I have 2 dropdownlist(ddlCategoryFooter and ddlItemCodeFooter)inside my gridview. I want to set ddlItemCodeFooter 's datasource to my getItemList(decimal categoryID) method. The selecteditem of ddlCategoryFooter will serve as the paramter which will be passed to my getItemList Method. Basically,ddlItemCodeFooter is dependent on ddlCategoryFooter's selectedItem.

I know it can be done in code behind approach but i prefer to place it in my asp page.

This i what i want to acheive:

DataSource Controls :: Variable Connection String Parameter In A DataSource Control

connectionstring="<%$ ConnectionStrings:PgSqlConnection %>"
oldvaluesparameterformatstring="Original_{0}"
providername="<%$ ConnectionStrings:PgSqlConnection.ProviderName %>" >

DataSource Controls :: Access Property Of Object As Session Variable As Declarative Datasource Parameter Value

Oct 27, 2010

I am storing a custom "Organisation" object as a session variable. One of the properties of the Organisation object is "OrganisationID" (integer). I have a DataSource that requires a parameter value to run, and I want to use a SessionParameter to populate this. In a previous version, I stored the OrganisationID directly as a session variable. In that case, I could easily access it like this:

[Code]....

However, how do I now access the OrganisationID property of an "Organisation" type session variable (called "Organisation")? I have tried this, which does not seem to work: <asp:SessionParameter Name="OrganisationID" SessionField="Organisation.OrganisationID" Type="Int32" />

Forms Data Controls :: Deleting From GridView Without Call Datasource's Delete Command

Jan 21, 2010

I'm using the asp.net membership on my website. On the User Administration page i've got a GridView to show the details of the users on the site. As a datasource rather than just using the Membership.GetAllUsers function i've got a SQLDataSource as i need to display user information from 3 different tables. I'm trying to add a delete button to the GridView. I'm setting the Membership's UserName as a DataKey and then using the RowDeleting event to call Membership.DeleteUser for the appropriate UserName. This works fine and the user is deleted however i then get an error showing up that "Deleting is not supported by data source 'SqlDataSource1' unless DeleteCommand is specified."

I don't want to use the SqlDataSource for deleting as i've already done it using the Membership. How can i stop it from trying to do this? Here is the cut-down that i have if you're interested. The selectcommand in the sqldatasource was auto-generated by it.

DataSource Controls :: Changing Paramter Type Of Integer To String?

May 20, 2010

How can I change the parameter value from Interger to String.
Here below is the part of the code that creates problem; the constant "sqlStatement" is as string, but when the parameters "@ProdColor" read the value it returns an integer instead of the proper type which is a string. I have tried every ting like: CType(sqlStatement(splitItems(1)), string)
Or convert or parse, but it keeps returning the wrong type.

Const sqlStatement As String = "INSERT INTO ProductDetails (ProdID,ProdColor,ProdSize) VALUES"
If item.Contains(",") Then
splitItems = item.Split(",".ToCharArray)
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ProdID", SqlDBType.Int).Value = sqlStatement(splitItems(0))
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ProdColor", SqlDBType.NVarchar).Value = sqlStatement(splitItems(1))
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ProdSize", SqlDBType.NVarchar).Value = sqlStatement(splitItems(2))
