DataSource Controls :: Taking Long Time To Import Data From Csv To Sql Server 2005?

Feb 20, 2010

I have an application which imports data from csv to sql server 2005. It is taking long time to import data from csv to sql server 2005. it has a timer. on tick of timer, I am checking if current rown in csv exists in database. If it exists, It is not added to sql server otherwise, It is added that row to sql server 2005. Also, In page load, It checks on each tick, whether user is logged in or not. it adds value to log file that user is logged in. How can I optimize this ?

Forms Data Controls :: Updating The Datasource / Mark All The Values In The Binding Column Of Datasource If Checkbox In Headertemplate Is Checked?

Sep 29, 2010

Scenario:
I am creating a custom gridview control which has a custom CheckBoxTemplateField column (deriving from TemplateField class). This template field column has custom Checkboxheadertemplate (implementing ITemplate) and CheckboxItemTemplate (also implementing ITemplate). In InstantiateIn method of both templates (header as well as Item template), I am adding a checkbox control which has Autopostback = true.

My requirement is:
I want to mark all the values in the binding column of datasource if checkbox in headertemplate is checked. I dont want to mark only rows visible on grid. I WANT TO MARK ALL ROWS IN DATASOURCE. I want to do this in _CheckedChanged event of checkbox in header template.

Problem I am facing: When I check/uncheck the checkbox in header, it postbacks. so in OnCheckedChanged event, gridview's datasource is null. Secondly, in any event of gridview, I could access only those rows of datasource for which corresponding rows are visible in gridview through Gridviewrow.DataItem property. But I want to set it for all rows in datasource.

DataSource Controls :: Executereader Is Taking To Much Time?

Jun 29, 2010

I'm using data access block [URL] in asp.net 3.5. Back end is sql server 2005. It's working fine and returns result instantly for all DB calls. But, I've a problem with one SP. When I call it, executereader is taking too much time. In few cases, it is executed. And sometimes I get the Time out error. I run the same SP in sql server. It returns 9000 rows in 3 seconds.

DataSource Controls :: Querying & Updating Data From Dataset?

Mar 15, 2010

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I will be as detailed as I can in explaining the issue;I have a dataset I have instantiated in a class file (vb.net), and fill the data succesfully. That data is then dumped into an excel file. What I need to do is to go through all the data in the dataset, and directly update the database, changing a "status" column from "pending" to "processing" based on the store number. As I am new to datasets (relatively speaking, of course), I am not quite certain how to accomplish this task. Below is the code I have so far:

If anyone could provide sample code to use, or could provide a quick bit of code I could just copy and paste in and test,

DataSource Controls :: Updating SQL Data Fields By Field Index?

Jan 7, 2010

I have a situation where I have a file with each Account Record contains Monthly Expense Total Fields and Monthly Budget Fields for 2009, 2008 and 2007. I'm working with 72 fields (36 Expense and 36 Budget).

Need to create New Year Proceure that will shift data from 2008 to 2007, 2009 to 2008 and move Zeros to 2009 for both Expenses and Budgets.

I can do this using Parameters and Update SQL but I am under the impression that I must specificaly name each field in defining Parameters and SQL Update Command.

Since all fields are sequential withing a record, is there a way that I can use a For/Next loop to index my way through the fields moving data from one year to another?

When using DataReader I'm able to use reader.item(index) to access data record fields.

Forms Data Controls :: Repeater DataBind Not Updating Items In Datasource

Jan 28, 2010

Here is the situation I have, I have a repeater inside a Usercontrol. The datasource is a IEnumerable<Investor> Exposed through a UserControl's Property. I have overridden the UserControl's databind event to set the Repeater Datasource before databinding the repeater. When it's not a postback, it databinds find and the events on the repeater item's controls fires up fine. But there is one event on repeater items (Delete Investor) which call back the DataBind of the UserControl after removing the Investor from de datasource. When this Event is called, it does all the work (deleting the investor and so on...) calls back the usercontrol's databind but when (within the usercontrol databind) the repeater is databinded again, the repeater items doesn't update (repeater items for investor not on the DataSource anymore still appears). My ItemDataBind doesn't even fire by then.

[Code]....

I Tried with both the Repeater Item Command and each LinkButton Event to see if it would make any difference, but none worked

The only thing my page is doing is inserting/updating data into a table in sql and the thing I can think of is because multiple users are using the same page to insert/update data? Will that cause deadlock?

DataSource Controls :: System.Data.Datatable Updating SQL Server Image Field

Jul 1, 2010

I have a datatable for which i'm defining a dataadapter. I'm specifying an updatecommand with sqlparameters for the dataadapter I set the updatecommand's parameters using the following overload:

[Code]....

The length 16 is used because this is the length of the field according to sql (the image datafield is a pointer of size 16) I noticed .Net is actually truncating the string because of the length i'm setting. An image of size 3kb will properly upload if we set the length field to be greater than 3kb The question I have is what is the proper value (or strategy) to use in order to set for the length field so that ALL images will properly update to the database, with each using the appropriate size.

I guess i could theoretically set the length to be maxint, but this seems sloppy. Looking at sqlparameter documentation i didnt see an 'unlimited' or 'default' length i could set, which would allow each update statement called to use the appropriate size for the data length for that row.

DataSource Controls :: Parameter Data Changing Between DataSource_Inserting And The BLL Call?

Aug 26, 2010

I have a problem when trying to validate data on insertion (and possibly update, didnt try it yet) .

I use a formview in insert mode, linking to a custom BLL that then link to a DAL to insert data into a table. The problem is the parameter data is changing between the Datasource inserting event and when the BLL insert method is called. 2 field, that cannot be null in the database, have default value added to them. Bot sure how to explain so well so 'ill post some picture explaining :

This is the form I use, I enter only test in the textbox for the value Nom this is the trace for my DataSource_Inserting event, as you can see, only the "Nom" value is non-null But then, right after the event is done and the call is made to the BLL, the value for "Sexe" and "DateDeNaissance" has been changed to some default value, namely 0 and Jan 1, year 1.

This of course is causing problem because if the user does not provide value for "Sexe" and "DateDeNaissance" then I want the DB to raise an ArgumentException, I do not want to have default value inserted. It seem the problem is in my code, the problem happen before the actual Update call. I'm pretty sure the problem is between the Inserting event and the BLL input parameter but I am still beginning in C# and ASP.NET so I have no clue

I want to make data-driven page and ability to filter data on some parameters, for example 3 text boxes and 2 dropdown lists and then show the results by the grid view control.

Actually I like input data in the text boxes and select item from dropdown list and then press "OK" Button and result (filtered data) show in the new page by the grid view.

What I have seen in the quick start tutorial is filtering by one parameter.

DataSource Controls :: Foreign Key Reference Not Updating With ADO.NET Entity Framework Silverlight/Data Service

Apr 8, 2010

I'm trying to insert a new EF object containing a reference to a related table via foreign key, and cannot get the reference stored in the new object. I have two tables in a SQL Server 2008 Database:

Component Templates
PartGroups

with a Foreign Key linking them thus: ComponentTemplates:ID [0..1<->*] PartGroups:ComponentTemplateID

I have imported these tables into a .NET web application project .edmx file (using a new ADO.NET Entity Data Model), and then created a Data Service which I then reference in a Silverlight 3.0 project. The objects are available as expected in the data context called by my Silverlight app and load correctly. Now, when I try to save a reference of ComponentTemplate into a newly created PartGroup, the PartGroup object is created in the database, but the value of ComponentTemplateID in the newly created table record is NULL.

[Code]....

(Note that _ctCtrl.ComponentTemplate is a confirmed non-NULL object reference to the parent object on which PartGroup is a child)

DataSource Controls :: Datatable Data Types And Command Parameter Datatype?

Apr 7, 2010

I am using VS 2008.I am building a datatable of records to be inserted into a SQL Server 2005 table.
The program loops through this table and builds a SqlParameter for each DataColumn in the datatable. The SqlParameters are used in the SQL Insert statement.

The field I am having a problem with is of type 'bit' in the database table and has no default value and cannot be nulls. The field is called 'Active' The meaning of this field in the application is Boolean i.e True or False. When inserting the record, I wish to default the field to "False".

When I define the columns in the datatable I am forced to use the following code to build the datatcolumn containing the boolean field i.e. dtcActive.DataType = GetType(Boolean) as there is no GetType(Bit)

Dim dtcActive As New DataColumn("Active")
dtcActive.DataType = GetType(Boolean)
dtcActive.Unique = False
dtcActive.AllowDBNull = False
dtcActive.DefaultValue = False
dtProviderDayDetails.Columns.Add(dtcActive)

However, when I build the SqlParameter I am forced to use this:

If field.ColumnName = "Active" Then
prm.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.Bit
prm.Value = "False"
End If

This is because there is no SqlDbType.Boolean. The problem I have is there is no value I have been able to give the SqlParameter that is accepted by the Insert statement. It complains that the boolean field cannot be null on Insert.

I have 2 dropdownlist(ddlCategoryFooter and ddlItemCodeFooter)inside my gridview. I want to set ddlItemCodeFooter 's datasource to my getItemList(decimal categoryID) method. The selecteditem of ddlCategoryFooter will serve as the paramter which will be passed to my getItemList Method. Basically,ddlItemCodeFooter is dependent on ddlCategoryFooter's selectedItem.

I know it can be done in code behind approach but i prefer to place it in my asp page.

This i what i want to acheive:

DataSource Controls :: Variable Connection String Parameter In A DataSource Control

May 20, 2010

I have several web forms which use a GridView linked to a DataSource control which is defined at design time as follows:

<cc1:pgsqldatasource
id="dsStates"
runat="server"
connectionstring="<%$ ConnectionStrings:PgSqlConnection %>"
oldvaluesparameterformatstring="Original_{0}"
providername="<%$ ConnectionStrings:PgSqlConnection.ProviderName %>" >
</cc1:pgsqldatasource>

As you can see, the connectionstring parameter is defined to a specific connection string name and I need to be able to set such a parameter to a different value, for example, to a session variable content.

DataSource Controls :: Access Property Of Object As Session Variable As Declarative Datasource Parameter Value

Oct 27, 2010

I am storing a custom "Organisation" object as a session variable. One of the properties of the Organisation object is "OrganisationID" (integer). I have a DataSource that requires a parameter value to run, and I want to use a SessionParameter to populate this. In a previous version, I stored the OrganisationID directly as a session variable. In that case, I could easily access it like this:

[Code]....

However, how do I now access the OrganisationID property of an "Organisation" type session variable (called "Organisation")? I have tried this, which does not seem to work: <asp:SessionParameter Name="OrganisationID" SessionField="Organisation.OrganisationID" Type="Int32" />

C# - Updating SqlDataSource Parameter Via LinkButton?

Apr 10, 2010

I'll try to explain what I'm doing the best I can, but I'm pretty new to asp.net so be patient with me. I have a SqlDataSource which returns a simple select statement based on the WHERE clause using @COURSE_ID

What I want to-do is every time any one of 2 (this will change as it's going to be generated) asp:LinkButtons are pressed, they will change the @COURSEID value which i'd like to associate with the specific button.

Buttons:

<asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton2" runat="server" onclick="MenuUpdate_Click">Course1</asp:LinkButton>
<asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton1" runat="server" onclick="MenuUpdate_Click">Course2</asp:LinkButton>
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:connString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT Chapter.chapterName, Chapter.chapterID
FROM Chapter
WHERE Chapter.courseID = @COURSE_ID
">
C#
protected void MenuUpdate_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Parameter p = SqlDataSource1.SelectParameters["COURSE_ID"];
SqlDataSource1.SelectParameters.Remove(p);
SqlDataSource1.SelectParameters.Add("COURSE_ID", THIS NEEDS TO BE VALUE ASSOCIATED TO BUTTON);
ListView1.DataBind();
UpdatePanel1.Update();
}

If anyone has any suggestions that'd be great, I've been trying lots of different things all night with no success :(

Maintain Current Page When Updating Top Level Parameter In MVC?

Nov 23, 2010

After working on a page for quite some time, the customer now decided that they wan't to be able to change a top level setting but still maintain the current page they're in.

Say for example:

User goes to default page, clicks on the UserSettings which is loading a partial view. In that partial there is multiple links like Address, Password, Other. Click Address (any of these) and it will load a partial within the partial. This will of course maintain the link "MyProject/User/1" in the URL bar.

When the User now change in the drop down in the top level, from User 1 to User 2 this will update the URL to be "MyProject/User/2" and will load the matching action with that. However, I wan't to be able maintain the user selection from before (MyProject/User/2, click UserSettings, click Address).

If I knew this from the beginning I would have done it completely different, but this now a request from the customer after the project is done so I'm look into if there is any "easy" way

[code]....

I can also add that I've tried to do something like this to figure out what exact page I'm on:

var foo = window.location.pathname;

but that only gives me what ever I already have in the URL bar, and not any information about what partial that potentially would be loaded. Is there any way to see what partials is dynamically loaded at the moment?

Basically loading View -> Partial View -> Partial View. Changing the setting for the View but still want to maintain View -> Partial View -> Partial View, but now for the new User
