I have created a webpage using wizards to set up the objects, can I change the name of all the datasources by just going into the code and entering the new database (the tables are identical) ?ORDo I have to work my way back through all the wizards and re-enter parameters?
View 3 RepliesI have a web page that has a repeater bound to a data source. I beed to change a label inside the repeater based on the data that is in each repeater item. For instance, for the first item it might be one thing, and for the next item the label may be something else. I am currently doing some processing in the prerender event, but I don't know if I can or how to access the data source fields there. Where and how do I get access to the data in each item so I can change the label text?

I'd like to loop through each row and replace all the values of the same type in the 3rd column with a different value.
So for example I would change all the 0 to 1234 and all the 1 to 1235. So I'd end up with:
Make,Ford,1234
Model,Fusion,1234
Year,2010,1234
Make,Ford,1235
Model,Focus,1235
Year,2010,1235
Whats the best way to do that ?
I have a problem when trying to validate data on insertion (and possibly update, didnt try it yet) .
I use a formview in insert mode, linking to a custom BLL that then link to a DAL to insert data into a table. The problem is the parameter data is changing between the Datasource inserting event and when the BLL insert method is called. 2 field, that cannot be null in the database, have default value added to them. Bot sure how to explain so well so 'ill post some picture explaining :
This is the form I use, I enter only test in the textbox for the value Nom this is the trace for my DataSource_Inserting event, as you can see, only the "Nom" value is non-null But then, right after the event is done and the call is made to the BLL, the value for "Sexe" and "DateDeNaissance" has been changed to some default value, namely 0 and Jan 1, year 1.
This of course is causing problem because if the user does not provide value for "Sexe" and "DateDeNaissance" then I want the DB to raise an ArgumentException, I do not want to have default value inserted. It seem the problem is in my code, the problem happen before the actual Update call. I'm pretty sure the problem is between the Inserting event and the BLL input parameter but I am still beginning in C# and ASP.NET so I have no clue
When I create a new login for my SQL Server 2008 I also specify a password for this login. But when I, after the creation is done, check the login's properties the password is much longer than the one I specified. If I here change the password once again, SQL Server 2008 will automatically change the password for the login - again. ANd I don't know what the password that SQL Server keep putting for my logins, since the password consists of small black dots.

Here below is the part of the code that creates problem; the constant "sqlStatement" is as string, but when the parameters "@ProdColor" read the value it returns an integer instead of the proper type which is a string. I have tried every ting like: CType(sqlStatement(splitItems(1)), string)
Or convert or parse, but it keeps returning the wrong type.

I had a DetailsView control for editing records in a Access 2003 database. I transfered the database to MS SQL 2008 and using the same code does not work - after clicking edit nothing happens (no error) and the record is not updated.

I have to be able to dynamically change the sproc name that is used in a Linq to SQL query. I see in the dbml designer this:

I need to change a user's role in my application. Therefore I need to know the correct syntax in code behind to alter a user's role; i.e. string sql = "ALTER TABLE ...etc". I'm not sure how to implement this at all. Is it similar to the INSERT INTO query used in code behind, where we define the parameters etc?

The form contains 2 different record types, accessed using the paging controls, depending on the ParentSR field; a parent SR will be something like '1234' while its sub-record will be something like '1234.1'. There are only a few differences in the fields used between the 2 different record types and that is why they are stored in the same table. However, the activity depends on the record type. When browsing from the parent record to the sub-record, the itemtemplate loads fine (notice in the formview's datasource
query, that the sractivity_id field is being pulled along with the subquery value). But when going to edit the record, the page throws an error:
System.Web.HttpUnhandledException: Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown. ---> System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: 'ddlActivity' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items.
If i click 'back' and retry, it may take 3 attempts, but then the edittemplate will load just fine. I should also point out that this error does not always occur. I've been trying to figure this out for a couple months and it is driving me nuts, mainly due to the fact that I can't reproduce the error in development--it seems to only occurr in production. Anyone with any thoughts on what is going on?

View 1 Replieseverytime I modify an SQLdatasource using VS wizards, I have to dettach the mdf in VS's server exporer, then hit refresh in the browser, then get the applicaiton is offline error message please remove some pia file, but i usually just count to 12 and then hit refresh again and the page renders properlyhad scoured the forum on more than one ocasstiion, think it has something to do with the Admin rights within SQL, Ive tried the SQL server surface configuration tool, and add administrator stuff, but not sure if i should add (user to provision) something like the asp.net thing, or network services or ??also cant figure out where to view which administrators are actually on SQL server,

Now i want to be able to let a users press the button, write a value in a record in the database and then change the red balloon to a yellow one. When the user wants (at any given time) wants the undo the value again the record should be rewriten again and the yellow ballon should be red again. Any tip is more than welcome :)

im building a simple message messenger web application, i currently have a column in my database dedicated to the status of a message. Its bound to the third column in a datagrid.
After converting the column to a TemplateField and using a Label to fetch the data how do i change the text from the database to a small message, e.g. if the data in the database (as an interger) is 0. how do i change the interger to a string to display "UnRead". Do i need to do this during the databinding call or after the grid has been databound?
I know it would be easier to use a boolean and checkbox control but the interger column represents more values than true or false.
I have a details view in asp.net which I am dynamically replacing some of the controls using code behind (e.g. converting some text boxes to dropdowns). My problem is that I am unsure how to bind these to the field from the database on postback. I.e. I am trying to find the code behind equivalent bind('currency');
I can populate the dropdown with the current value from the database but cannot find how to save a new value on updating the detailsview.
In my web forms application I have a site.master page with an update panel (Java Script ToolKit). Inside the update panel I have a survey and a columns chart to show its results. The chart properties are

When the user votes, his/her vote is stored in a sql server table The chart is rebound to its data source
The chart visibility is set to true and the survey's questions are hidden. I have not got the columns to change their color. I have put the code inside every event handler I could think of (after it failed to work inside the page load event handler): Inside the chart Init, load, and pre_render handlers. Inside the click event handler for the voting button (before and after I call the chart.DataBind() method). Inside the page pre_render handler. Inside the ToolKitScriptManager pre_render handler. I checked the code behind the environment samples. All, to no avail.

When i select a page in the footer, the page postbacks, and I lose all data.I am lost on how to enable paging and maintain the data in the table.I manually insertthe information into a datatable then bind because of the way i have to get the information.Here is what I have so far:

I have a gridview which shows the contents of the shopping cart. The qty cell is a template control bound to the qty field in the datasource. My ideal scenario is to have the user highlit the qty, write the new one and press 'enter' to update the sqldatasource but this may not be possible.
My second chose is an Update button to update the data but this erases the data from the other fields not listed as key.
I have tried the edit and update functions but then all fields are editable and I dont't want that, just the qty cell. If I change the read only atrribute to true on the ones that I don't want edited, then it erases the information from those fields.
