Forms Data Controls :: Property Of Custom Control In Repeater Is Null On Postback?
Jan 12, 2011
A common problem in repeater controls where you want to display data for update (like a list of user phone numbers that can be updated and submitted back to the database) is where to store the database unique row identifier. So, I created a custom Textbox control that I've added a Data property to. I populate this data property with the unique row id. The problem is that when I post back the list and go through the repeater items the control's data property is null. The custom control looks like this:
[Code]....
The tag in the repeater looks like this:
[Code]....
I have a custom checkbox with the same data property and it works fine. I actually put in the same repeater with the textbox control and the checkbox control have the row id on postback but the textbox did not. Is there some limitation on the textbox control that might be causing this.
I customized a button from System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button (it is a Custom Control, NOT an User Control, no ascx file)the intention is to adding a OrderID property to the button, that can be bound to a datasource field.
Here is how this control is used in a aspx page:
[Code]....
Here is my definition of the MYButton class, it saved in a .vb file and placed in App_Code folder
[Code]....
Here is the code trying to use the OrderID in btnSave_Click()
[Code]....
The problem is OrderID is always returned as 0.
When first time page is loaded, and gridview is bind to a data source, I step through the code, and the OrderID property are set correctly, but after the postback caused by the button, the OrderID value has lost.
Iam developing a custom checkbox control deriving from the 'compositecontrol' which i need to use it for a composite control purpose.
public class TngCheckBox : CompositeControl {
i have written the required properties which are working fine except the "checked" property. here is my code for 'checked' property. i tried both the below ways (commented one and not commneted) . the problem is the 'checked' value is not setting the value at the get set part of the property.its assigning the value at the design time , but when i check and uncheck its not updating the property value.which is resulting me wrong .

I have a custom control, inherited from Button. This is the class definition for the control and 2 properties:
[Code]....
I show you 2 properties, only to illustrate the problem.
as you see Aplicacion property is of a custom type Sistema, and Roles property is of type List<UserRol>.
The Aplicacion property is rendered well, this way:
[Code]....
The problem I have is with List<UserRol>. I couldn't get it to be rendered. I expeect to be rendered this way:
[Code]....
Finally, this is the TypeConverter and Editor definitions for the list:
[Code]....
The UserRol class is a typical class, without any special attributes.
I have discovered that when I use the custom editor for Roles property, the collection is not persisted. When I use the default editor for the collection, the collection is persisted.
I have created a really simple custom control to render panels into a page. The code is below. When I use my control and add any webcontrol to it, after each page postback the contents of these child controls vanishes.
I must have missed something really simple but run the example to reproduce this. Can anyone please enlighten me as to why the controls are being 'emptied' of their contents, and how I stop this occuring?
i have a a public property in my masterpage, I have a repeater on another page which has a hyperlink, when i click on it, i need to give the masterpage property a value based on the hyperlink clicked. How do i go about doing this, because at the moment the property is set to the last value in the repeater. I have something like this;
I use FormView with ObjectDataSource and class. I have a TextBox binded to a DateTime? property. When TextBox.Text property is empty i want to set the property of my class to null but the value is 1.1.1 00:00:00. My Workaround:
[Code]....
Is there a way to set this property to null without this workaround? Is this a bug in DataSource or is this a feature by design?
I have a database field called ImageLocation, I have the ImageUrl property bound to: Eval("ImageLocation", "{0}")I would like to bind the Visble property to false if the ImageLocation is null data. I can not figure out how to set the control properly, currently the Datalist shows me all the data and when the image location is null it shows me the name of the Hyperlink control which happens to be Hyperlink2.
I created an Extender which has a custom property that drills down a list XML elements from an xml file, where users can select xml elements during design-time. This works perfectly fine. However, my code only has a hardcoded xml filename (source of the xml elements list) and I need to change this by maxing the xml file user-specified.
What I did is that I created another control (panel) which has a custom property that when clicked (through the ellipsis), it will allow a developer to select the xml file which is supposed to be the source xml file that the Extenders shall use. The filedialog from custom panel's property works perfectly fine.
However, my problem now is that when I drag-drop my Extender, I cannot find a way to get the property value of the custom Panel Control which contains the xml filename. I tried creating a static variable which I thought the custom controls can share but VS2010 is breaking.
i use div and repeater to show categories for searching part. there is a div. when iclick it, repeater opens and if i select a category its name shows on div. this part is ok. Now i do searcing. so i have to take the span's value(or repeater's value).
In asp I want to add row to my gridview when I read barcode. But when I want to add second row , gridview.datasource = null. So, my first row is removed from gridview in TxtBxBarcode_TextChanged event.
TxtBxBarcode and gridview are in the different update panels.
How can I prevent this "gridview.datasource is null when Postback" ?
I have some problem using one repeater in another repeater. There are two repeaters on the page, second one is declared in ItemTemplate of first one. DataSource of first one is DataSet with two different tables and relation between them. On DataBind event sorce data correctly displayed on page. Second DataBinder appears to be one of fields in firsone, like list of items.
My goal was to set background to some lines of first repeater regarding to the data it displays. In ItemTemplate I've made next :
[Code]....
But now background is set only to first subline in second repeater, if you know what I mean :)
I've tried to make <tr> tag in ItemTemplate to be server component, but it crushed the aspx page. What am I supposed to do to make it as fast as it possible, through is it correct or not.
When I click the repeater row it fires the SetLocationControls method. As you can see my repeater is wrapped in a DIV of height 290px. When the are more than 9 rows in my repeater you have to scroll the div down to view this row. When I click this row it does the postback but doesn't fire the SetLocationControls method. I've had a look in the source it's created the click event to the repeater row like all the other rows. why this method isn't firing on the rows that aren't initially visible in my DIV?
I want to change the value of a literal within a repeater ItemTemplate after postback, based on a value detected at postback.I can't render the whole repeater again though I think because it's actually a radio button in the control that inititates the postback and so I need that control / value to be persisted.
I have an object to hold some specific state information in my web application - I pass it back & forward between pages by making it a property of a basepage which works fine, but I lose it on postback.
Is there any way to persist this property without manually adding & reading it again from viewstate?
I've been looking around and trying a lot of different tactics to solve this issue but basically the senario is this.I have a gridview with a fileUpload in it.I can upload a file perfectly and it writes to the database. The trouble starts when I update a different cell and don't touch the cell with the fileUpload in it,it'll postback a null value to the database.
How can I keep the fileUpload control from sending a null on postback to the database so it won't clear out my entry if there isn't a new one to replace it?Or alternatively, how to I default the value to the old value on postback if nothing was entered through the FileUPload control?
i have created a new user control who contains a gridview so, my prolem now is that i want show all the property of the gridview included in the control, but i want not write like this:"Usercontrol1.GridView1.Datasource=...." but i want write "Usercontrol1.DataSource=..." and this also for other controls how can i do this?
