DataSource Controls :: Sending Checked Gridview Row To Database

May 10, 2010

I'm working on a web application in Visual Studio 2008. I'm using gridview to pull data from our database (I'm using a SQL Datasource) . I have a template field with a checkbox function and it allows you to check certain rows and disable them. What I am trying to do is send the enabled rows aka the non selected rows to a seperate table in our database. I'm assuming its just some kind of insert statement but I'm stuck on specifics..I am getting a object reference not sent to an instance of an object error. The line that is higlighted is, cmd.Paramters.AddWithValue("[Wrk_Pgrm_ID]" txt1.Text);

Below is the code i recieved from an earlier thread that I have modified.

Forms Data Controls :: Show Checked Checkboxes In Gridview From Database

Mar 4, 2010

I have situation where I have to show checked CheckBox in a GridView. I have three tables

1) Menu Items ( Fields: menuID, menuName, menuLink, .....)
2) User Types (Fields: userTypeID, userTypeName, ...)
3) User Menus (Field: menuID, userTypeID )

I have a screen to add new Menu Items where I am showing a Grid That has two columns

1) CheckBox and
2) User Type

I have to check CheckBox in order to Link that User Type with the Menu Itme. I am done with Add Screen. Here is the Code:

(aspx)
<asp:GridView
ID="gridView_UserTypes"
runat="server"
AutoGenerateColumns="False"
DataKeyNames="userTypeID"
Width="60%"
EmptyDataText="">
<HeaderStyle
CssClass="gridHeader"
Wrap="false"
/>
<AlternatingRowStyle
CssClass="gridAlturnateRow"
/>
<RowStyle
CssClass="gridRow"
/>
<Columns>
<asp:CheckBoxField
DataField="userTypeChecked"
HeaderText="Select"
ReadOnly="false"
Visible="true"
/>
<asp:TemplateField
HeaderText="Select">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:CheckBox
ID="userTypeSelector"
runat="server"
/>
</ItemTemplate>
<ItemStyle
HorizontalAlign="Center"></ItemStyle>
</asp:TemplateField>
<asp:BoundField
ItemStyle-HorizontalAlign="Left"
DataField="userTypeName"
HeaderText="User Types"
HeaderStyle-Wrap="false"
ReadOnly="True"
SortExpression="userTypeID">
<ItemStyle
HorizontalAlign="Left"></ItemStyle>
</asp:BoundField>
</Columns>
</asp:GridView>
(Code Behind)
foreach (GridViewRow row in gridView_UserTypes.Rows)
{
// Access the CheckBox
CheckBox cb = (CheckBox)row.FindControl("userTypeSelector");
if (cb != null && cb.Checked)
{
// First, get the UserTypeID for the selected row
int userTypeID = Convert.ToInt32(gridView_UserTypes.DataKeys[row.RowIndex].Value);
if (selectedUserTypeIDs == "")
{
selectedUserTypeIDs = userTypeID.ToString();
}
else
{
selectedUserTypeIDs = selectedUserTypeIDs + "," + userTypeID.ToString();
}
userTypeCount++;
}
}

Now I am passing selectedUserTypeIDs along with other details to my Stored Procedure and adding those UserTypes for newly Added menu. It works fine for me. Now I want to show checked CheckBox in Edit Mode.

Forms Data Controls :: Gridview - Save Selected Values And Checked Boxes In Database

Feb 2, 2010

I have a gridview and users would select some records and would click on the submit button and i will be saving those records into database using a stored proc.... now .... just below the gridview and above the submit button there are few checkboxes by default they wud be checked. How would i save the selected values and the checked boxes in database i wrote the stored proc for the gridview but how would i save the checked checkboxes into the same table.

For i As Integer = 0 To gvSelectScreen.Rows.Count - 1
Dim chkTemp As CheckBox = TryCast(gvSelectScreen.Rows(i).FindControl("cbStatus"), CheckBox)
If chkTemp.Checked Then
ContractNumber = gvSelectScreen.Rows(i).Cells(0).Text
ClientProgramNumber = gvSelectScreen.Rows(i).Cells(1).Text
ClientProgramName = gvSelectScreen.Rows(i).Cells(2).Text
StartDate = CType(gvSelectScreen.Rows(i).FindControl("txtStartDate"), TextBox).Text
EndDate = gvSelectScreen.Rows(i).Cells(5).Text
Dim connStr As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("MainConnectionString").ConnectionString
Dim myCon As New SqlConnection(connStr)
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("usp_ParametersFromGrid")
Dim dt As New DataTable
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
cmd.Parameters.Add("@ContractNumber", SqlDbType.VarChar, 22).Value = ContractNumber.ToString()
cmd.Parameters.Add("@ClientProgramNumber", SqlDbType.VarChar, 22).Value = ClientProgramNumber.ToString()
cmd.Parameters.Add("@ClientProgramName", SqlDbType.VarChar, 100).Value = ClientProgramName.ToString()
cmd.Parameters.Add("@StartDate", SqlDbType.VarChar, 20).Value = StartDate.ToString()
cmd.Parameters.Add("@EndDate", SqlDbType.VarChar, 20).Value = EndDate.ToString()
cmd.Parameters.Add("@RequestID", SqlDbType.VarChar, 50).Value = RequestID.ToString()
cmd.Connection = myCon
myCon.Open()
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
myCon.Close()
End If

Now above the submit button as i said, there are few checkboxes and they are checked by default...how would i save the selected item (in the gridview and the checked checkbox values in the same row in the database(sql server)

Forms Data Controls :: Updating The Datasource / Mark All The Values In The Binding Column Of Datasource If Checkbox In Headertemplate Is Checked?

Sep 29, 2010

Scenario:
I am creating a custom gridview control which has a custom CheckBoxTemplateField column (deriving from TemplateField class). This template field column has custom Checkboxheadertemplate (implementing ITemplate) and CheckboxItemTemplate (also implementing ITemplate). In InstantiateIn method of both templates (header as well as Item template), I am adding a checkbox control which has Autopostback = true.

My requirement is:
I want to mark all the values in the binding column of datasource if checkbox in headertemplate is checked. I dont want to mark only rows visible on grid. I WANT TO MARK ALL ROWS IN DATASOURCE. I want to do this in _CheckedChanged event of checkbox in header template.

Problem I am facing: When I check/uncheck the checkbox in header, it postbacks. so in OnCheckedChanged event, gridview's datasource is null. Secondly, in any event of gridview, I could access only those rows of datasource for which corresponding rows are visible in gridview through Gridviewrow.DataItem property. But I want to set it for all rows in datasource.

DataSource Controls :: Connect Gridview To Database?

Apr 21, 2010

I've created a SQL Server Express database to use with a program I'm working on in Visual Web Developer 2008. The connection works fine according to the Add connection-wizard in VWD. However there's a problem when I try to select data from the database and present the data in a gridview. The error message says that the gridview isn't connected to the database. The gridviews DataSource ID (source-mode) is the same as the name of the database. In design-mode, when I try try configure the datasource I get to a point where I have to configure the select statement, but I just want the connection to work in a way that let's me write the sql-statements in the aspx.cs-file.

DataSource Controls :: Updating Database With Gridview Control

Nov 30, 2010

I am sure I am not the first to ask this question but I cannot find an answer in these or any other forums. I guess I am not wording the question right. In short I have a gridview populated but a database via an SQLDatasource. I have an Edit column in the datagrid and an updatequery in the datasource. When the Edit is click the line goes into edit mode, the user then clicks Update and I get an error. Could not find control 'DropDownList1' in ControlParameter 'Frequency'. The only complication is that there is a drop down control when the "EDIT" column is selected. The dropdownlist gets it list from another SQLDatasource. This all works fine. Here is the code snip:

<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AllowSorting="True" AutoGenerateEditButton="True"

When partner_list contains only one partner id like "12345" it works fine. If it has more than one then the DataReader states that there are no rows in the reader? I also tried to send the dealer list as a string with ticks, like '12345','22222','33333' but that doesnt work either.

DataSource Controls :: Writing Multiple Gridview Checkbox Values To Database

Jun 11, 2010

I have a checkbox column in a Gridview that I would like to use to insert the value of one cell in the row into an access database. There will be a maximun of five cells allowed to be selected so there can be one value written to one field in the database up to the maximum of the five fields. The access database has five columns: Selection1 ,Selection2, Selection3 ,Selection4 and Selection5

When the checkbox is checked, the value of one cell (PliD) should be written to each field in the database. Ie: checkbox in row 1 should write PliD value to Selection1, checkbox in row 2 should write PliD value to Selection2, checkbox in row 3 should write PliD value to Selection3 and on depending on which checkbox has been checked. I am not sure how to get the value of the checkbox and write it into the corresponding fields in the database.
