I have a sql server query that has connection in Default.aspx page. I have the page works perfectly when i browse from server, but when i try to access through it remotely from my machine. i get error.
i asume this would be security , but i am using windows security.
How can i connect my local project with the SQL server 2008 Database that is running on other server (This server is not on my network and i connect to it via remote desktop connection).
View 1 RepliesWe are working in a new N-Layered application with EF4 as ORM. As a requirement, we need to give support for both SQL Server and Oracle existing databases.
Our wish was to build a single EDMX model and then generate our business entities from a TT file.
The main problem was that database providers may generate different .NET types from our database field types. In this case, we'll have different EDMX models and then different auto-generated entities, which is more or less the same as have two different applications.
I don't know if we could have different SSDL files with specific database information (one for Oracle and another one for SQL Server) in separete files and share CDSL and MSL information for both databases.
Would be this solution possible?
Someone knows some other way to work with Oracle and SQL Server using EF4?

I am working on VS 2008 and 3.5 framework. I had three windows services. I placed all three in a single solution, created installer individually for each of them. Then created a setup project. When I build it says build failed . But I checked on the errorlist, (i enabled the diagnostics in options menu), but there was no error at all. I went ahead and installed. There were no issues, But there was no service showed up in the services.msc.
I installed each service individually , using installutil command, it showed up. But my requirement is to bundle these services and deploy to the client. The client should install it.
I'm getting the following error on deployment of a tested application where ajax runs fine on the developmental system On deployment, I'm running asp 4. I downloaded ajax4 and extracted it into the /program files/ajax folder. Do I need to register any .dlls or anything? I don't see that in the Ajax installation instructions.

I am having deployment issue with AjaxControlToolKit.dll. I copied the DLL to my local bin dir, and it works fine. But when I do the build on test server, the files are not in Visual Source Safe anywhere, so the site doesn't work. What could be the issue?.

I use _rptDocument.PrintToPrinter(1, false, 0, 0); to print report.
I've tried two methods to deploy website
Normal Publish option. Web Deployment Project.
But I got the same output, print functionality doesn't work. Also, I tried to set default printer, this also doesn't work.
So I've intalled SQL 2005 Express and Sql Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE). I don't have any problems connecting to it using Windows authentication. But I would like to set it up so that I can log in using Sql Server Authentication with a username and password.
But I'm getting an error message of "A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occured during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0- No process is on the other end of the pipe) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233).
What I've done
I've created a new "Login" in the Security node. Provided all necessary role access level. Granted permission to connect to database and enabled login.
I've used the Sql Server Surface Area Configuration to set the Remote Connection type to "Using TCP/IP only" or "Using Both TCP/IP and named pipes" (tried both, but in either situation I get the same error message when attempting to login to SSMSE with the user name and password). I also made sure to restart the service.
I am currently doing a project that requires the user to click a button on a webpage (C# ASP.net web application) and activate an regular application file (exe, jpg, doc, etc) on a server.
For instance, if I have an excel file on the server. The user would click a button from a webpage and then the excel file will open. The result should be the same as double click the excel file and open it locally.
I installed a basic TFS 2010 instance on a Windows Server 2008 32bit VM. I didn't need SSRS or WSS so I left those unconfigured.
It works fine when I'm on our local network but how do I get the default TFS website [URL] to be accessible over the internet when I'm not on our local network? I'd also like for off-site members to be able to connect to the TFS via Visual Studio (this also works fine internally)

Can I create an incremental deployment package using either Visual Studio 2010 Web Deployment Projects or Web Deploy (Web Deployment Tool) .
I need to automatically select changed files from a source and destination or a change set on TFS and build a deployment package only with the changed files.
I'm running into a weird issue that I can't find an answer for anywhere I've looked (and I've looked a ton).I built a web deployment project with Visual Studio 2008 Team System on my old Win XP machine. This has always worked flawlessly and installed everywhere. I can also copy this MSI to my new Windows 7 Ultimate machine and it again installs just fine.
HOWEVER, when I rebuild that exact same web deployment project on my new Win7 machine, also using VS2008, the MSI will build OK, but when I then run it to install my software I get a dialog box telling me "the installer was interrupted." Interestingly, when I built this MSI in my new environment one additional warning popped up during the build process, which was "Unable to copy the schema file '(null)'"After many searches and reading different web pages, I know this has to do with these two registry keys:

All permissions are correctly configured, etc., etc.Then, when I enable the built-in administrator account and log in as that, and then rebuild this same web deployment MSI the "Unable to copy the schema file '(null)'" warning no longer appears. Then when I log back out, log back in as myself and then run this newly built MSI it installs fine, just like the original one that was built on XP.I also tried uninstalling VS2008 and re-installing it as the super user, but that also didn't change anything. And yes, I did also configure devenv.exe to run as administrator.
Has anybody seen this? Or is it a requirement that you can only compile deployment projects as the super user? That cannot be right.I've been thrashing for more than five days and for the life of me cannot figure this out. Of course, I can run as the super user when developing, but I thought the new security model in Win7 was designed exactly so you don't have to.

I try and update my table with the following

I dont get an error or anything, nothing happens, and the date remains the same.
sql update command. I have created two forms for update,
1. In first one I retrieve details in text boxes vai id entered by user.
2. In second one I display a grid and on the EDIT hyperlink I pass on the value of the primary key to another update page with same syntax as first one. When I click on update button on this next page, I get a successful update message but the data in the
database is not updated. Also I don't get any kind of error.
What is going wrong with the code?

My client has a windows 2003 server running IIS 6 and Framework 2.0 installed. They are already running some web forms applications on that server.I have a few queries regarding deployment of my application to that server:1. Suppose the site goes online and the tables in the DB already have data.Suppose I go on with the development and add new tables, change existing tables or replace stored procedures.What's the best way to upload these DB changes to the hosting? Because I can't delete all existing data online.

I code to exec a store procedre (sp_truncate) to truncate 10tables and using sqlBulkCopy to download a huge data. My workaround is to create an aspx to run in a hidden iframe. To do that, and to make it modular, I'm trying to dynamically create everything from the querystring. This *seems* to work just fine until I bind my sqldatasource to the dummy gridview. I then get "Procedure or function 'xxx' expects parameter '@NumberResults', which was not supplied."
