My sqldatabase is inputting NULL instead of the information from my form. Form is collecting different names and multiple phone numbers for each. names, addresses, zip codes are going in as entered on form but phone numbers are not they are going in as NULL. Columns are set as header is Cell, nvarchar, Length is 15 and I have setup as I did other columns. code for my form is (i have removed some lines that are working as expected)

View 7 RepliesMy hosting company provider MS SQL Express as part of my hosting package, they have provided me with both the name and IP address of the server running MS SQL Express.
I have created a database on this server via management studio and when I create a connection string like this (connectionString="Data Source=ServerName/IP;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=xxx;Password=xxx") my application works fine.
But if I create a local database file and try to attach this with a connection string like this (connectionString="Data SourceServerName/IP; AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance = True ; Trusted_Connection=Yes) my application doesn't work.
Therefore my questions are:-
Is there something wrong with my connection string? Can you use a local database file within a production environment?
I have a "simple" method that takes a Linq entity containing the information I want to update. The method then creates a list of counties the information is to be updated for, and tries to update the information for each county.
So user goes in fills form out selects update All counties, and the information in the form should be updated for all the counties for the member. Here is the code.

The first pass through the foreach runs perfectly, the second time through I get an error: Cannot attach an entity that already exists.
What is best way to work around this?
I have though about putting the foreach loop in my business_logic layer, and have it pass both the newRecord and OldRecord, but figured I would ask, before making the code change.

So on the explorer the address is something like this http://localhost:port
The problem is that i can't access the Website(while its uploaded) using my internal IP from within the network.
So if i type http://10.0.0.180:port i get an error "Internet explorer cannot display the webpage".
I disabled my firewall(windows 7).
Programatically is it possible using C# or script 1. To attach certificate to the https binding of website in IIS 7.5(from a drop down).

i've tried searching the net for this but really can't find much at all. i have created a website in visual web 2005 with sql express 2005. i have uploaded the website and altered the connection string and can connect to the database on the server, but now users can't log in The login control tells me when I've entered the wrong details, so it's doing something right, but if I enter the right credentials it eventually just throws back an error (Server Error in '/' Application.). I'm guessing it's something to do with the membership section in the web.config but can't quite work out where. I've altered the connectionstringname to the one that points to the database on the server and the application name in the table on the db is "/" so now I'm at a loss.
View 14 RepliesI have a website that occasionally needs to have a handful of the tables in its database updated. The updates come from another system that exports to comma delimited text files. I can then either FTP the text files to the web server, send them in through an admin upload page, or manually log in to Remote Desktop to download the text files. I have all my C# code written to parse the files, check the database contents, and decide what to do.
Should I code the sync logic to be part of a file upload page, protected in the admin section of the site or should I create a Windows Service that constantly looks for files to process in a particular directory that I can drop files in through FTP?
I have used Windows Services in the past and they have worked great, but if I ever have to make a change to the code it can take longer than it would if I just had to modify an ASPX.
Are their security benefits one way or another?

I have sqldatabase tables.I am reading table data and putting in a tabconatiner(wth tabs containing textbox, checkbox etc) specific to a client. If a client has more than one row i want to iterate through the rows and read each row data. Basically I want to use a button-click to read the next row data at put it in the tabs and so on. I used sqldatareader and a while loop.I can read the data but while loop iterates through the rows and show the last row data / i want to use a button to go to the next row and show data.

I have always continued to keep all of my code in codebehind that I would need to be secure, and don't make any calls to my database with javascript out of concern that a hacker could see the strconnection, username, ect. Is there a highly secure way to communicate with an sqldatabase with Javascript, or should I continue to do things the way I have done them?

If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider. I have set up a db locally which mimics the production DB, THe production db and website has no has no issues.
THis used to work till i had hard disk failure and had to reinstall all software and do the db from scratch. Used the table scripts and ran the aspnet_regsql. I am using sql server express 2008 asp.net 3.5 I am using custom provider for Roles and custom membership provider for Memberships. Pretty sure the problem is in the db permissions, though I have set up Users in the Security of the DB.

My lecturer insists that a web site should NOT have a static SQL connection as its not good practice (didn't explain why) but then I thought that if one makes instances of an SQL connection everytime I want to save, delete or edit then surely thats a bottleneck as I would need to everytime establish a connection and then do the save process. From what I have read online, the process of establishing a connection to the server is the longest (about 5 to 10ms)...
