I did lot of R & D to implement website internal search in asp.net.
I have found a good article in code project
[URL]
It has some limitations
Search with special characters is not working.
Pdf and word documents are not searching.
Not able to high light the searched text.
If I am implementing this in master page then child title is not displayed in result page. Requirement:
I need to implement search result should be like this [URL] In description the search text must be highlighted.
Note: I need to implement this with coding not any 3rd party tool (I know lots of 3rd party website which do free hosting but they will post there adds and logo). Moreover i dont want to use any database for this internal searching.
Iam working on internal Website search as user can search any thing in the website Now i dont have idea from where i can get start ?? how search will work .it should be whole database search or pages only???

I am trying to create a website that takes input from users and then updates a table in MS Access db. I have a plain html form that takes the imput and in the action I entered the asp file name. Once a user clicks on submit on the html page I get the 500 internal server error. I properly uploaded the files on the server,
I have created a DSN on the server, but cannot see the DSN under the "Select ODBC DSN" when I try to create a connection from DreamWeaver. I am using a 64 bit machine so nto sure if that might be causing the problem. Here is code form asp file :
<% @ Language="VBScript" %> <% Option Explicit %> <html> <head> <title>Form to database</title> </head> <body> <% 'declare your variables Dim name, email, comments Dim sConnString, connection, sSQL ' Receiving values from Form, assign the values entered to variables name = Request.Form("name") email = Request.Form("email") comments =Request.Form("comments") 'declare SQL statement that will query the database sSQL = "INSERT into users_tbl (name, email, comments) values ('" & _ name & "', '" & email & "', '" & comments & "')" 'define the connection string, specify database 'driver and the location of database sConnString=("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source='d:/hosting/6859771/html/access_db/Users.mdb';User Id=;Password=") 'create an ADO connection object Set connection = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") 'Open the connection to the database connection.Open(sConnString) 'execute the SQL connection.execute(sSQL) ' Done. Close the connection object connection.Close Set connection = Nothing response.write "The form information was inserted successfully." %> </body> </html>
We have built an internal tool that generates the whole data access, each table has a class the represents it's data and all the common operations.(think lightweight Entity framework). These DataAccess objects always have a constructor that receives a connection string, and a Load function that receives a SqlDataReader.
Something like this:
class Customer { public string ConnStr;[code]...
Btw, we are interested in open sourcing our DataAccess generator, it's amazing - it allow very effecient access to DB objects + creates a javascript data access layer that gives you FULL CONTROL of your DB from javascript(ofcourse this has security implications which can be managed). If anyone here knows how to "open source" a project like this or any company that wants to join the development of this product - please feel free contacting me: eytan@titkadem.co.il
I have a web site that has always run fine for years and years under 3.5. I converted it recently to run under 4.0, and it runs on Cassini fine. When I attempt to deploy the app to an IIS7 server that has 4.0 installed, all I get is "internal server error", and no error messages in the Event log, and nothing in the http logs.
I've double checked that the application pool I've deployed to is running 4.0.
It's an x64 web server and app (always has been while it was under 3.5.
I cannot get VWD to recognize a database where access is limited to an internal IP from the Web server. Remote connections directly to the database aren't allowed.I'm using Visual Web Developer 2008 Express on my machine. Our Web site is on a remote hosted server, say 1.1.1.1. We have MSSQL 2005 set up on another remote hosted server, available only through an internal IP, say 2.2.2.2, from the Web server. RemotI'm going crazy trying to establish a connection in VWD that will actually display the database in VWD's Database Explorer, which would then allow me to use the VWD tools to add data elements to my pages.
I want to add mime type in web.config to make downloading files for users.but after adding mime tag, website starts showing internal error 500 and removing this, it runs fine but when user click on files to download then it show error that file not found. I have recently developed a new vs2010 web application that I would like to add to my web site.
The existing website was developed using vs2008. The web site is hosted on a windows 2008 server running iis 7. My new web application sits below my main website i.e. mywebite mywebsite/mynewwebsite
I have set the application pools for the mynewwebsite to be asp.net v4.0, leaving the application pools for mywebsite as .net v2.0 If I try and open my new web application i.e. [URL] then I get 500. Internal server error. I assume that it is iis that is unhappy here. Do I have to rebuild the whole of my web site to be vs2010 using asp.net v4.0. If I do should I use ASP.Net v4.0 or ASP.net v4.0 Classic for my application pools, and should I have a separate and distinct application pool for each of my web applications ( I have 4 of these) Just to clarify my clients can log on the web site as
how to prevent exe file from being uploaded in a website , even if exe file is inside zip file( exe file in a new folder and new folder is then zipped and uploaded)?
When I run my app locally I get no errors. No error from Global.asax, no redirection to an error page. Everythings works fine.
When I deploy my app to a test server, my app run there with no errors. No error from Global.asax, no redirection to an error page. Everythings works fine on the test server.
But when I deploy my app to production server, the app runs fine but I keep getting errors (emailed to me) from Global.asax. On production server we have these security apps that run and keep hitting all URLs of the app on the server. Just to make sure they are working fine. When these security app hit URL of my app, my application runs fine but it gives out this global.asax error. The funny thing is that error is empty. The error are emailed to me and the email is empty. Nothing there.
There are several other apps running on the same server. My app has its own app pool and is configured correctly.
i've tried searching the net for this but really can't find much at all. i have created a website in visual web 2005 with sql express 2005. i have uploaded the website and altered the connection string and can connect to the database on the server, but now users can't log in The login control tells me when I've entered the wrong details, so it's doing something right, but if I enter the right credentials it eventually just throws back an error (Server Error in '/' Application.). I'm guessing it's something to do with the membership section in the web.config but can't quite work out where. I've altered the connectionstringname to the one that points to the database on the server and the application name in the table on the db is "/" so now I'm at a loss.
I do my new website in Sqlserver2005,But when i upload it at that time DataBase Related page display Database error. In this site without Database page open. So give me reply I also add my database in hosting side How to attach my database in my asp.net website , when i upload this.
When I upload a file through a web page to a directory on the webserver the file does not inherit the parent folders rights. So when a user tries to access the file from the local network after the upload they recieve access denied. How can I set the rights on the file after the upload or get the rights to set correctly when the file is uploaded. The file uploads correctly but only has the rights of Network service, system, internet guest account and IIS_WPG. I need it to have a specific user or everyone which the parent folder has and is set to propogate permissions.
I am using NeatUpload file upload control: but issue can be generic i am thinking .. that's why posting on asp.net site...
Code works fine on my DEV machine (both file system and localhost) but when i deploy the code on Staging or Prod (on web server)... upload feature works fine but when I try to access the uploaded documents from staging server or Prod server, it says Access denied and cannot open the PDF document??
tried all the options but could not solve this issue... is this related to control or settings on my IIS...
before using NeatUpload(single upload) we were using microsoft upload control and it works fine in accessing the documents....

I am using CK Editor, in my application every user have his separate email templates. I want to store images to user specific and user should not view other user uploaded images when browse to Server to upload images
I have a website that occasionally needs to have a handful of the tables in its database updated. The updates come from another system that exports to comma delimited text files. I can then either FTP the text files to the web server, send them in through an admin upload page, or manually log in to Remote Desktop to download the text files. I have all my C# code written to parse the files, check the database contents, and decide what to do.
Should I code the sync logic to be part of a file upload page, protected in the admin section of the site or should I create a Windows Service that constantly looks for files to process in a particular directory that I can drop files in through FTP?
I have used Windows Services in the past and they have worked great, but if I ever have to make a change to the code it can take longer than it would if I just had to modify an ASPX.
Are their security benefits one way or another?
Performance benefits?
ASPX page wins the "ease of maintenance" category.
I'm pretty sure the answer to this question is no, but I just wanted to get some feedback before I go down another path.
Here is my scenario. I have two websites. Website 1 is an internal website that cannot be accessed outside of our domain. Website 2 is an external website that can be accessed outside of the domain, but has access to webservices inside of the domain.
My question is, is there any possible way to display the internal page through the external page without making the internal page external.
I want to have a PHP login form on my website. When the user enters a username and password and clicks submit, they should be directed to a remote website logged in (therefore skipping the login form on the remote site).
As mentioned in the title, the remote site is built using ASP.NET.
I've tried to search for a solution this but really not finding.
