DataSource Controls :: Tried To Update My Current Database With The Triggers To Input The Schema Into The Already Existing Database Can't Get That To Work?

Jan 22, 2010

Creating a system with web front end and SQL backend (microsoft obviously). I have tried using the asp.netsqlprovider but i can;t as i am only allowed one database on the server, so i then tried to update my current database with the triggers to input the schema into the already existing database.Next step i create my own table with two simple fields of username and password and try and authenticate that way, i can't get that to work either.

I ahve limited permissions on the network as i am a University Student. I really don't know what to do. Never had to create a log on system before and i thought it would be far simpler than this. I ahve used Microsoft's sqlprovider schema before and it worked fine. I have also authenticated via IIS and AD too before. I can't do any of those two in this instance it seems.I need an alternative for logging in users, if needs be in can be crude. I also still need to have some kind of two different views too for logged in users and not logged in users, but that can change if needs must.Don't let me down people, haha. Think this posts in the correct place, i could not find another one i thought could be more relevant.

DataSource Controls :: Search Various Database Columns Based On User's Input?

Nov 18, 2010

I have five textboxes(tb1, tb2, ... tb5) on the page, each textbox represent a column in the database table.

I need to search the database table based on the text in the textboxes. User can either enter text in all five textboxes or none.

What's the best way to do a search?

I am thinking for one textbox(tb1), depends on if tb1.text is empty or not, I need to do 2 searches

[Code]....

for two textboxes(tb1 & tb2), depends on if tb1.text and/or tb2.text are empty or not, there are 4 combinations, so I need to do 4 searches

[Code]....

for three textboxes, there are 8 combinations,

Does that mean for five textboxes, I need to do 2 to the power of 5, 32 combinations, 32 if statements?

DataSource Controls :: Store Data From XML File To Table In Database?

May 14, 2010

I am trying to store data from an XML file to a table in my database, but I keep getting the same error.

This is my code from the cs file:

[Code]....

And this is my error:

Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_Areas'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.Areas'.

The statement has been terminated.

In my XML file I have both existing rows and new rows for the database table. I'm guessing I have to do something to sort out the the rows that are not already in the database, but so far I have been unsuccessful to figure this out.

DataSource Controls :: Store Members And Newsletter Subscribers In Database?

May 18, 2010

On a website I'm building user's can subscribe to newsletters by entering their email address into a form and submitting. This will then add them to a 'Newsletter_Subscribers' table in the database.

Users can also sign-up to the website by entering their username/password/email details. They also have the option of subscribing to the newsletter. If they choose to do this then their email address is added to the 'Newsletter_Subscribers' table.

However, I wish to make the data more consistent rather than storing the email address into two different unrelated tables in the database.

Has anyone tackled this issue before, and what is the best way to go about storing this information?

One idea I had was to have a 'Users' table, a 'Users.Members' table and a 'Users.Subscribers' table. All three would have a relating UserID column, with the email address stored in the 'Users' table but I'm not sure this is the best method as I would also wish to store the Username/Password in the 'Users' table in case we had a 'Users.Advertisers' table for example.

DataSource Controls :: Store A Textbox Entry To A Database And Then Display It?

Jan 31, 2011

I have to create a simple application which scans, displays and stores the info from a barcode. I have been able to sort the scanning and display part of this application but I need to know how to store the infromation entered into a textbox to a database and then be able to display the stored data as a list at a later stage.E.G. Once the "STORE" button is clicked, the information/text within the textbox is stored to a database. Once the "VIEW STORED DATA" button is clicked, the stored information in the database is displayed as a list.I am a complete beginner when it comes to creating web applications using asp.net. Also, the type of database to use (i.e. sql, wamp.etc) and how to link it to my application is also puzzling.

C# - How To Debug An Application That Is Time-dependent

Nov 3, 2010

I'm working on an application (a web application, asp.net and c#) which is datetime-dependent, so, based on the current date, it will launch forms for the logged user to fill in.

I've been thinking about how we're going to simulate real usage of the application, for debugging and testing purposes.

So I'm talking about replacing all those:

DateTime currentDate = DateTime.Now;

with something like:

DateTime currentDate = MyDateClass.GetCurrentDate();

And then I'll have a class:

public class MyDateClass
{
private DateTime _currentDate;
public DateTime GetCurrentDate()
{
// get the date, which may be different from DateTime.Now
return _currentDate;
}
public void SetCurrentDate(DateTime newCurrentDate)
{
// set the date to the value chosen by the user
_currentDate = newCurrentDate;
}
}

allowing me to set the current data, by invoking the SetCurrentDate method, for example, in the code-behind of a link button and a calendar input.

how should I exactly store the DateTime variable, throughout all the application? I can't work with the session in this class, right? Should I work with the Thread?

[code]....
