I'm working on an ASP.net application in which I've multiple web parts in a page. Each web part has its own data source pulling data from them and showing it. When a user tries to load the page I want to load the page instantly and asynchronously render all the web parts with the data.

I want to run a javascript function when the page loads. But as my page derives from the master page there is no form . The is my aspx file
<%@ Page Title="" Language="VB" MasterPageFile="~/Site.Master" AutoEventWireup="false"
CodeFile="test3.aspx.vb" Inherits="test3" %>
<asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="HeadContent" runat="Server">
<script language="javascript">
var m_Names = new Array();
function LoadArray() {
PageMethods.Load_Array(onSucceeded, onFailed);
}
function onSucceeded(result, userContext, methodName) {
m_Names = result;
}
function onFailed(error, userContext, methodName) {
alert("An error occurred")
}
</script>
</asp:Content>
<asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="Server">
<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" EnablePageMethods="true">
</asp:ScriptManager>
<asp:TextBox ID="txt_model_code" runat="server"></asp:TextBox><br />
<br />
<input type="button" value="db Function" /><br />
</asp:Content>
I want to run the LoadArray() function initialy when the page loads. This function is calling a pagemethod given in aspx.vb code file..
Partial Class test3
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
<System.Web.Services.WebMethod()>
Public Shared Function Load_Array() As String()
Dim Model_Name_old As String()()
Dim mod_code As String()
Dim mod_name As String()
Dim cod_upper As Integer
//calling webservice that retunrs a jagged array
Dim ins As New localhost_insert_model.dbModel
Model_Name_old = ins.get_Model_Name("A")
mod_code = Model_Name_old(0)
mod_name = Model_Name_old(1)
Return mod_name
End Function
End Class
So how can i load the javascrip LoadArray() function onPageLoad in this scenario?

I have a modal popup which contains a listview with multiple rows containing multiple controls so the form takes around 6-7 seconds to load, which is fine. What I want to do is display a little animated gif whilst its loading. What I don't understand is from the Page_PreInIt to the Page_SaveStateComplete (which is the first lifecycle method to last i think) it's only a matter of milli seconds.
a) why is it taking so long to load?
b) hows best to show the gif whilst the page loads (if possible)

I think this may be to simple of a question for these forums, but I guess I'll risk a little tarnish on my armor. In my web application, some of the pages I create don't have enough content to fill up the whole page. So it extends to the bottom (or beyond) of the browser window.
Where could I find an example, or, does someone have an example of how to make the content area of an individual page expand so the footer of my page is indeed at the bottom of the window? Kind of an auto-growing/shrinking thing.

I have built a web site for our company in 2.0 (to be upgraded to 3.5 at a later time). The landing page (default) does not use a master page, where as the back pages do use a master page. I am using a style sheet in a root folder called "styles" (all background images are loaded from the style sheet), and the images are located in a root folder called "images".Adding the preload image scripts head section in the default page is simple enough, but I am not sure about what to do in the pages that use master pages.Would it be correct to place the preload image script in the content place holder named "head" for the pages that use the master page? And if so, do I move the "body' from that master page into each indivual page?

Is there a way with ASP.net page (with AJAX) to display some some of busy indicator (just a label is fine) while disabling some buttons (to prevent double-click) and then do the work. At the end of the work, the label changes to indicate the new status. When I tried to do it this way :
Public Sub BtnEnvoyer_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BtnEnvoyer.Click
BtnEnvoyer.Enabled = False
LblStatus.Visible = True
LblStatus.ForeColor = Drawing.Color.ForestGreen
LblStatus.Text = "Envoi en cours..."
SendEmail()
End Sub
Private Sub EnvoyerCourriel()
' Do some work
LblStatus.Text = "Done!"
BtnEnvoyer.Enabled = True
End Sub
I just see the dn result, nothing in between. I don't mind using javascript to make it work if needed, or anything else for that matter.

I understand how to use javascript to change the cursor to busy while the page is making and ajax call. However I have a page that does not use ajax, it uses a postback to reload the page. However the load is rather data intensive and it takes a few seconds. During this time the user can still click on the page. I want to turn the cursor to "waiting" so the user does not try to click on the page. For example I have a couple of dropdowns that cause postback. I make a selection and the page loads for 3 seconds. While it loads I would like the cursor to turn to waiting so the user does not try to make a selection on a second dropdown until the page reloads. Is this possible?
Additional Info: (simplified version of my setup)
I have a masterpage:
<form id="form1" runat="server">
<table width = "100%" bgcolor="White">
<tr><td>
<h3><asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="MAIN" runat="server"></asp:ContentPlaceHolder></h3>
</tr></td>
</table>
</form>
<script type="text/javascript">
function cursorwait(e) {
document.body.style.cursor = 'wait';
}
var fm = document.getElementById('<% =form1.ClientID %>');
if (fm.addEventListener) {
fm.addEventListener('submit', cursorwait, false);
}
else {
fm.attachEvent('onsubmit', cursorwait);
}
</script>
and then a page that uses the master page:
<asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="MAIN" Runat="Server">
<table runat=server id="tb_simple_search_table" cellpadding = 0 cellspacing = 0>
<tr><td>
<asp:DropDownList...
<asp:DropDownList...
</td></tr>
</table>
</asp:content>

My Project is a normal web site, not a Web Project, and I am using VS 2005.
I am trying to define common Master Page Type in app_code which has an area to display error messages and the like. Very simple.
I added the following in app_code:
[Code]....
Also, I added the following in Master Page Source Declaration:
[Code]....
Also, I added the controls tblrowErrMsg and lblErrMsg as server controls to the Master Page.
Why I am doing this ?
This will allow me to display error messages from nearly any where inside the code in code-behined, app_code, and other core Class Projects (DLL).

I have developed a news blog . I would like to add a Comment section with spam prevention capabilities into my news.My Comment table is as followsComment - CommentID,Name,DateStamp,Comments and NewsItemID as a foreign keyI'm having problem in identifying a logic . I have some questions to ask1) I'm thinking to use Formview to create a comment section?..Is it okey?2) I'm thinking to capture the NewsItemID from querystring and trying to fill up the NewsItemID(foreign key) into comment table?..Can you please show me in coding, How can I do that in coding?...if it is not a good logic,,then advise me how to do this?.3) Getting the comment from formview to db is okey, but how can I show the user comments as soon as he clicked the submit button of the formview ?..It seems quite difficult for me to do handle two events when user click the submit button 1) sending the comment into db ,2) shows the users comment in webpageHow can I do that?..Can you please provide some coding show me how can i achieve my task?

I have an asp:Menu control on a master page that is reading its menu items from a web.sitemap file via a SiteMapDataSource.When I click on a menu, the new page loads which uses the same master page, but the ASP:Menu vanishes. I have put some plain text next to the menu for testing, this appears on the new page but the menu does not.Does anyone know how to get the asp:Menu to remain visible on the page?

i want to update different areas of my MVC page after one action (say a click) occurs.
how, i use ajax, and wrapping the entire area where all these parts need to be updated is counter intuitive as the ajax data being sent back would be close to the entire page.
so, i have a few partial views, - but the problem is, each action only returns one view! how can i return multiple views from this one action?
i know a popular solution is to just hammer the server with multiple async javascript ajax requests for each "part" of the view, but this really is unnecessary and inefficient, reconstructing and destroying the page (say) 5 times for just one action, when it should just occur once, and once it does, the server should manage all the partial views then and there.

I have this div inside a repeater, where i set the class, onmouseover and onmouseout properties from code behind:
<div id="Div1" runat="server" class="<%# getClassProduct(Container.ItemIndex) %>" onmouseover="<%# getClassProductOver(Container.ItemIndex) %>" onmouseout="<%# getClassProductOut(Container.ItemIndex) %>">
codebehind:
public String getClassProduct(Object index)
{
int indexItem = Int32.Parse(index.ToString());
if (indexItem == 3)
return "produs_box produs_box_wrap overitem lastbox";
[Code]....
This code is fired initially, and after the page is rendered, it is called again, and executed again due to that js...
UPDATE: happens only in Firefox. On chrome, it works fine...
"Solution": deactivated YSlow....just "horrible".

have an ASP.Net 2.0 (VB) application which connects (SQL Authentication) to SQL Server 2008. I publish the application to our intranet. The start page is frmMain.aspx. I RDP to a "neutral" PC (one like our users have) and the site loads fine the first time in. The users cannot bring up this application, however (it does not load--times out). They have been able to run this application before from this same intranet location and have not had problems. I have re-published the site, but this behavior continues.

What would cause a single webpage to load slowly? I have javascript within the <head> element. The html consists of 2 <div> elements and within these <div> elements are a bunch of <table> elements and that's it.
The functionality of this site is such that each <table> element contains data that during the "onload" event, these <table> elements are hidden. Each <table> elements is controlled by an HTML menu (the menu itself is an html table). When a menu item is clicked, it will either display or hide the <table> element depending on whether it is already displayed or hidden.

I am setting up an asp.net web parts portal for some stuff. I have a [hopefully] really easy question. How can I make the page have 3 major columns?
Right now I have two columns using <div id="leftpanel" style="float: left"> and <div id="rightpanel" style="float: right">. But I cannot figure out how to get a panel in the center. The right panel is basically in the center and there is not a css float: middle/center. So how is a three panel web parts page accomplished?
