I have a custom user control which contains a asp hiddenfield object. The value of this hidden field is being set using javascript and I have verified that the value is being set properly. When a postback occurs the new value is not being saved and I cannot access it in my code.
I believe the problem is because the user control is not saved in viewstate and therefore the hidden field value is not saved accross postback. How can I make the hidden field save its value? I tried accessing it from the early page cycles and still no luck.

I have a user control that i have registered to an aspx page. Now from the aspx page, i am trying to access one of the registered usercontrol's hiddenfield value in my aspx page using javacript using the below code:
tst = document.getElementById('control1$hdnField').value;
I looked into the page's trace, and i could see 'control1$hdnField'. Then why i am not getting its value in my aspx page. I have also confirmed that the hidden field by this name exists in the user control and also has a default value set.

I don't think I understand fully how ASP.NET does inheritance of controls.I have a user control, ucBase, which has an asp.net label in the ascx file. Code behind references the label and it works fine during run time if the control is not a parent for another user parent.
If I have another user control, ucChild, inheriting from ucBase, the label in ucBase's code is always null. ucChild has no controls in its ascx fileThe server controls (like the label) needs to be declared in the ascx file and not created programmatically.What needs to be done for ucBase to see its own controls when it's a parent user control?

how am I be able to assign a value to my hidden field control? I have this web service that returns member's ID and name (e.g. 0001-John dela Vega). In order for me to search for a member, I'm using an autocomplete extender, now, if in case that I found the member I'd like to assign its member id to a hidden field. I ask this because I'd like to change the way my web service return data so instead of displaying the member's id and name at the same, I'll just show its member name.

My Tab Container works fine on my development machine. But it doesn't show up my production machine. On closer inspection, the Production machine renders it as hidden. Any thoughts on why this would happen?
Mark up:
<asp:TabContainer ID="tcAuditMain" runat="server"
Visible="true" ActiveTabIndex="10" EnableViewState="true"
CssClass="NewsTab" Width="100%">
Rendered:
<div id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_tcAuditMain" class="NewsTab" style="width:100%;visibility:hidden;">

i am trying to do is set my page up so that when a user clicks on a row in the gridview a hidden checkbox is unchecked... i am new to asp.net but never thought something as simple like this could be so difficult to work out... i've been on it for around 5 weeks now, i started this on my first day of the website, and have actually designed and written the entire site while still trying to work this out... i first did this on the selectedindexchanged event:
Dim cbox As CheckBox = CType(GridView1.Rows(GridView1.SelectedIndex).FindControl("CheckBox1"), CheckBox)
If cbox IsNot Nothing Then
If cbox.Checked = True Then[code]....
problem is the above code throws up errors...! once i take out the where clause it unchecks every checkbox and writes it back... is there a way i can say just uncheck the selectedrow checkbox and update that one row???
i'll admit there are better ways of doing this, and i'm sure the above code is a little messy,

I have a special requirement with regards to popping up a MsgBox in ASP.Net. There seems to be various solutions across the Internet using the Javascript confirm box, and passes the response to a hidden control, from which VB.Net can the read and further respond ...but the Javascript code is initialted by a button on the ASP.Net Form. I want to be able to pop-up a MsgBox in the middle of my VB code-behind using the Javascript trick, which passes the result to the hidden control, which can then be read by VB.Net .... the problem is that the page has not refreshed and the hidden control still contains the value from the previous Submit .... I'll attach my code. If anyone can come up with a solution, will you have achieved the impossible!

I have the AsyncFileUpload control within a <asp:Panel> control that I toggle visibility True/False.
For Example when the page loads pnlEdit.visible = False. Then when a user clicks on a detail record in a grid I display the panel with the AsyncFileControl ie: pnlEdit.Visible = True.
Because the the AsyncFileUpload Control is not displayed on the page right away it errors when you try to upload a file. Would anyone know how I could preload the control or configure it.

I'm using V.S. 2008 and asp.net MVC. I have a form in this page that user selects various items from Select controls. I then construct a string varible that contains each selected element's id a hidden input control that holds this information. How can I pass this variable (and it value of course) to a Controller Action? I am using regular Html Form and the Submit button.
In the following code you see the "ResearchInterests" is the one that holds the string but I can't even reference it in my Controller action, Search. How can I correct this?
