I've inherited some code that is having a serious problem. On one page, there are several pairs of "Yes"/"No" checkboxes that act like pairs of radio buttons through the use of the ACT MutuallyExclusiveCheckBoxExtender control. They work as expected. However, when I navigate away from the page, I get a "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.InvalidOperationException: Handler was not added through the Sys.UI.DomEvent.addHandler method." error in the dynamically-generated ScriptResource.ax...c2d9970 [dynamic] file.
The specific method in the dynamically-generated code is:
var $removeHandler = Sys.UI.DomEvent.removeHandler = function Sys$UI$DomEvent$removeHandler(element, eventName, handler)
The element is set to any of the checkbox controls (I've removed them one-by-one and it happens to ALLof them) and the eventName is "Click". I gather from the code that it's trying to do a removeHandler before the addHandler for the particular element has taken place. True, I don't have any explicit addHandler lines in my code, but I don't any explicit removeHandler lines either. About all I've got in the aspx code is:
[Code] ....
The formatting of the code in this message is a bit weird, but it's basically a simple table with three columns. On each row, there's text in the first column, the checkboxes in the second column and a button in the third. I've searched high and low on the web and nearly every thread I read about his error talks about it in relationship to the use of command buttons in an ACT UpdatePanel.

I have a control that handles commenting. In this control, I have set a delegate event handler for sending an email.
I then have various types of controls, e.g. blog, articles etc, each of which may or may not have the commenting control added (which is done dynamically with me not knowing the id's), i.e. the commenting control is added outside this control. Each of these controls handles it's emailing differently(hence the event).
What I'm trying to determine, is how to assign the event in the parent control. At the moment, I'm having to recursively search through all the controls on the page until I find the comment control, and set it that way. Example below explains:
COMMENTING CONTROL
public delegate void Commenting_OnSendEmail();
public partial class Commenting : UserControl
{
public Commenting_OnSendEmail OnComment_SendEmail();
private void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if(OnComment_SendEmail != null)
{
OnComment_SendEmail();
}
}
}
PARENT CONTROL
public partial class Blog : UserControl
{
private void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Commenting comControl = (Commenting)this.FindControl<Commenting>(this);
if(comControl != null)
{
comCtrol.OnComment_SendEmail += new Commenting_OnSendMail(Blog_Comment_OnSendEmail);
}
}
}
EDIT:
The reason I ask is that if I search from this.Page as the initial control, I am worried about time taken to search down the control tree to find it. Each different type of page would be different in how many control it would have. On some testing, it returns back quite quickly the result.

I am building a web site with visual web developer 2010
I have a class (autoButton) that adds a button to a panel (on Default.aspx) and a handler w/i the same class (classifyEventHandler)
The button appears fine, but when clicked the even doesnt fire, what am I doing wrong?
I tried locating the event handler in default.aspx, but it was not found :P
Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic
Public Class autoButton
Public Sub makeClassifyButton(ByVal theCell As Object)
Dim myButton As New Button
myButton.Text = "classify"
myButton.ID = "b_classify_" + theCell.ID
AddHandler myButton.Click, AddressOf classifyEventHandler
theCell.Controls.Add(myButton)
End Sub
Private Sub classifyEventHandler(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
MsgBox("done?!")
End Sub
End Class

I have a question connected with controls and event handling. Lets say I want to create a LinkButton.
protected void loadLinkButton()
{
ContentPlaceHolder content = (ContentPlaceHolder)this.Master.FindControl("MainContent");
LinkButton lnk = new LinkButton();
lnk.ID = "lnikBtn";
lnk.Text = "LinkButton";
lnk.Click += new System.EventHandler(lnk_Click);
content.Controls.Add(lnk);
}
Here is the event handler:
protected void lnk_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Label1.Text = "ok!";
}
If I run the loadLinkButton function inside Page_Load everything is ok. But when I try to run the loadLinkButton by clicking simple button, link button is created but event is not handled.
protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
loadLinkButton();
}
I there any way to solve it? Or loadLinkButton must always regenerated on Page_Load, Page_init etc.

In our asp.net web application we load the dropdown list boxes in the page load. We than set the SelectedValue of each dropdown list box to an object from session. We have event handlers for many of the SelectedIndexChanged events of the drop down lists boxes, but these do not get executed when we set the selected value programmatically.
Someone else mentioned this is by design, and only when a user manually changes the drop down list selected index, will the event get raised.
I would think this is a common scenario of wanting the selectedindexchanged event handled when setting the selectedvalue/selectedindex/listitem's selected property, of a DropDownList. What is the suggested way to handle this? Is there a significant drawback of creating a custom control inherited from DropDownList that has the functionality of raising this event when changing the SelectedIndex or SelectedValue?

[Code]....
A breakpoint is set on FillForm() and this method is called two times but I can't explain myself why this happens. I have client side javascript code, when the form is being send, the onsubmit method is also called twice... Where do I have to search?! Is it a (known) bug? Think I could get it to work with this Thread: [URL] But why is the event fired within the onblur-event when it's fired anyway??

I have a page that contains dynamically generated Dropdown List controls and I want thant the dynamic dropdown list perform an AutoPostback to fill some other field using the value selected. This is the code I'm using to create dynamically the control:
[Code]....
Control is correctly filled and rendered on ASP page but, after selecting a value, the page is reloaded (AutoPostBack is called) but the control is not diplayed and the sub is not called. I put a breakpoint into the ChangeValue sub but anything happens.
I read on some post that handler for the first DropDownList is not necessary but, how is it possible to tell DropDownList to call my sub after changevalue?

I understand I need to load my dynmaic control on every postback and preferrably in Page_Init(). But my dyanmic controls are loaded from a dropdownlist selectedindexchanged event handler. Now after any postback, my dynamic controls are gone. How would I force it to load on every postback ?

Is there a technical reason for the existence of Page.PreLoad or is this just convenience to have a place where you can neatly place code that always have to be executed before the Load code? Is there a difference between adding code in the PreLoad event handler and adding code at the top of the Load event handler? And what would be a typical scenario where you use PreLoad?

I've tried many different ways to try to get the selectedIndexChange to work for my dropdownlist. It doesn't seem to work, when I debug, I can see that the page is doing a PostBack but the method that suppose to be taking care of the select index change doesn't seems to be fired. I notice that there is no "handles" in many post so I was just wondering why it doesn't have it?On postBack I didn't rebuild the list so the selectedIndexChange value shouldn't reset to 0.Sub ddlAccess_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) ''handles ......?"
...
end Sub

I'm having problems binding controls at runtime. I've some user controls which need to be bind to the page when one of the dropdownlist selected index changed.
I can able to bind them properly but when if there is any postback event happens I am losing the controls and control values which were created runtime.
How do I avoid binding them again and again.

I have one Button (Refresh Button), One ComboBox (containing DEV and UAT as its items) and a GridView on my asp page.
I am filling up my Grid with values from database on the ComboBox's 'TextChanged' event and Buttons's 'Click' event.
First time when page is loaded, there is no information in the grid, but when i choose DEV/UAT from the ComboBox 'TextChanged' event is fired, the grid is filled with the relevant data. That is what i want.
When i click the Refresh Button to refresh the data again, first comboBox's 'TextChanged' event and then 'btn_Click' event is fired.
I want then when a button id pressed only 'Click' event to be fired and not the ComboBox's 'TextChanged' event.

There is a bug in jQuery 1.4.2 that makes change event on select-element getting fired twice when using both DOM-event and a jQuery event, and this only on IE7/8.Here is the test code:
<html>
<head>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.js" type="text/javascript"></script>[code].....
This causes alot of trouble for us in our application cause we use both ASP.NET-events mixed with jQuery and once you hook up a change event on any element every select (dropdown) gets this double firing problem.

The Scenario: I have an asp.net website where I show a div popup on page load for taking a few user details. When a user inputs the details, or closes the popup, I set up a flag cookie so that the popup is not displayed again for the user. The div is in the MasterPage so that it is displayed no matter on which page a user lands first time. The div contains an UpdatePanel which has all the controls required for taking the details. This whole functionality is working fine.
The Problem: Now this div popup is not showing(by setting display:none) on subsequent postbacks(which I want), but the html markup is still loading with the page unnecessarily adding to the page size. What I would idealy want to do is: Check if flag cookie is set. If no, show the popup, else remove the popup's markup from the page. Now since the div is not a server control, I cannot possibly remove it and the all the controls inside it. So, I thought of removing the UpdatePanel from the page:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (Request.Cookies["flag"] != null)
{
if (Page.Controls.Contains(updpnl_contact))
{
Page.Controls.Remove(updpnl_contact);
updpnl_contact.Dispose();
}
}
}
But I guess this tends to work with dynamically added controls only, and since the control is added at Design Time, it is not being removed. Is there any way I can achieve this?

I am working on a web application project in which i add a dynamic number of LinkButtons at runtime according to user selection, each link should redirect the user to a specific web page ,but what actually happened is that the last hyperlink is the only one responded! the following code show the declaration :
''''''''Public WithEvents ItemName As LinkButton
''Public Sub AddLinkButtons
''''''''For i = FirstIndex To StopFlag
''''''''ItemName = New LinkButton
''''''''ItemName.Text = Dt.Rows(i).Item(1)
''''''''Me.ContentTD.Controls.Add(ItemName)

''''''''Private Sub ItemName_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ItemName.Click
''''''''SelectedItemToFind.ItemFlag = 1
''''''''SelectedItemToFind.SelectedItem = sender.Text
''''''''Response.Redirect("Default.aspx?Main=SearchResult")
''''''''End Sub

I have a Web Form that uses Master Pages. I only tell you this part so you understand the layers.
On the page, I have a web user control. I can see public methods on that user control by simply calling userControlName.PublicMethod();
However, there is a button on this page which generates additional content. This content is based on a placeholder control and adding additional web user controls :
[Code]....
Now, on the main form, I want a submit button that will call a public method of each "subForm" that was added at runtime.
I have tried various forms of Control C = This.Page.Master.FindControl("cpBody").Findcontrol("ctl01")... etc, but can never seen to get the right combination.
Below is a listing of the web form

I have controls which are added at run-time to a PlaceHolder control on the page which is inside an UpdatePanel. The first refresh of the UpdatePanel is fine but subsequent actions create copies of everything on the page. I get two sets of the run-time added controls on the same page. It's not smart enough to realize that the second set replaces the first set. Has anyone else seen this? Runtime added linkbuttons into UpdatePanel ;fullpostbacks instead of asyncpostback.All parameters of UpdatePanel are default. adding controls runtime like this:

I have searched around but unable to find a solution that will work. I have a link button that is created dynamically during the page load. It is given an ID (obviously). There is a script manager on the page. I have the controls added to a panel in the updatepanel (updatePanel1). There is a dynamic label that is also created with each link button. I can get a response from the linkbutton click event during a postback on the second time clicking the linkbutton, but I am getting a complete postback instead of the asyncpostback for that control. During the creation of the dynamic linkbuttons, I am also creating a dynamic trigger for each button and adding it to the updatePanel1. The Click event is not firing the method without doing a complete page postback.

Using vb.net/asp.net 2005.
I have a page books.aspx that has a control named authors.ascx.
Inside the authors control there is a "select" button I want to add some kind of listener or event handler (not sure of the correct terminology) so on the parent page (books.aspx) I can respond to the "select" button being clicked.
I have to pass the authorID from the user control to the parent page.
In my authors.ascx control I just created this event:
[Code]....
Now I need to write the function for SelectAuthorBtnClick and I think add some kind of listener in the parent page to listen and handle the event.
