Error When Passing Quotes To Webservice By AJAX
Dec 27, 2010
I'm passing data using .ajax and here are my data and contentType attributes:
data: '{ "UserInput" : "' + $('#txtInput').val() + '","Options" : { "Foo1":' + bar1 + ', "Foo2":' + Bar2 + ', "Flags":"' + flags + '", "Immunity":' + immunity + '}}',
contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8',
Server side my code looks like this:
<WebMethod()> _
Public Shared Function ParseData(ByVal UserInput As String, ByVal Options As Options) As String
The userinput is obvious but the Options structure is like the following:
Public Structure Options
Dim Foo1 As Boolean
Dim Foo2 As Boolean
Dim Flags As String
Dim Immunity As Integer
End Structure
Everything works fine when $('#txtInput') contains no double-quotes but if they are present I get an error (for an input of asd"):
{"Message":"Invalid object passed in, u0027:u0027 or u0027}u0027 expected. (22): { "UserInput" : "asd"","Options" : { "Foo1":false, "Foo2":false, "Flags":"", "Immunity":0}}","StackTrace":" at System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptObjectDeserializer.DeserializeDictionary(Int32 depth)

im trying to import a CSV file, however a single quote has been used to enclose strings ie. 'aaaa','bbbbbb',ccccccc'
Im having problems because some strings contain commas or apostrophes ie... 'aaaa,aaa' , bbbbb'bbbb',
This is causing me trouble and i need to replace the enclosing character for all strings from a single quote to a double quote....
I dont have access to the source that the csv was generated from, I just have the CSV file..

I have successfully returned data from a ASP.Net webservice in JSON format (using a service method that required no parameters) but have struggled with making a webservice call that requires a parameter.
Webservice:
<WebMethod()> _
<ScriptMethod(ResponseFormat:=ResponseFormat.Json, UseHttpGet:=True)> _
Public Function TestWebService(ByVal Description As String) As Stock
Dim res As New Stock(Guid.NewGuid, Description)
Return res

I am using .Net Framework 3.5 on an ASP.net web project using jquery.ajax to make web service calls. My web service returns objects serialized as JSON by specifying the content type of my POST as "application/json". I would like just one of my many properties to return a non quoted javascript function name instead of a quoted string. Serialized as such:
{"dataInit": functionName, "id": "myID"}
instead of
{"dataInit": "functionName", "id":"myID"}

Setup: I have a RadioButtonList with two listitems (One Street, the other Schools). These define what type of search I want. I textbox with associated autocomplete. First you select which search to complete, and then start typing and the autocomplete will make . Autocomplete goes out to ashx webservice which pulls a list from the database.
I have tested the webserver and it works properly, so I'm thinking the problem is with my jQuery UI autocomplete. <div id="divSelectOne" style="padding:8px 3px 8px 3px; border-bottom:1px dotted #cccccc; background:#f9f9f9;"> <span style="font-weight:bold; color:#369;">Select One:</span><br />
<asp:RadioButtonList ID="radSelect" runat="server" RepeatDirection="Horizontal">
<asp:ListItem Text=" Street, City, Zip or Subdivision" Value="Street" Selected="True"></asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Text=" School" Value="Schools"></asp:ListItem>

In Visual Studio 2008 I have a Class Library project (called Media) to which I added a Web Reference (not a Service Reference) to a third-party web service (wsdl). In the Class Library project a proxy class is created for using the service along with several classes for the types used in that service.
I also have a second Class Library (called Sync) that references the first one. And then I have a Web Site project that references the second class library. All of this is .NET 3.5
So Web Site > Class Library (Sync) > Class Library with web service reference (Media)
I want to step into the generated code, so I fire up the web site in IIS 7.5 and trigger the call to a method in the second class library (Sync) that in turn should call the web service proxy. I was fully expecting to hit the breakpoint, but instead got an exception:
Unable to generate a temporary class(result=1). error CS0029: Cannotimplicitly convert type Media.WebService.multiValuedAttribute to Media.WebService.multiValuedAttribute[]
Why is ASP.NET trying to generate a temporary class? Don't I already have the generated class from the first Class Library (Media)?

I have a webservice (ASMX) which I have tested locally using built-in VS web server. It works fine in the Dev environment, and there was no configuration of anything in IIS for this kind of webservice to work.
Today when I deployed my site on the live server, I got a 500 error when the webservice is being called. The website doesn't work, and unfortunately the client did not test this on staging (same server)
Here's the sample call to my service.
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: 'http://www.mydomain.com/services/someservice.asmx/MyMethod',
data: "someid=564",
dataType: "xml",
success: function(msg){
}
In Firebug, http://www.mydomain.com/services/someservice.asmx/MyMethod returns error 500 internal server.
I called the service using jQuery AJAX, the live server is Windows Server 2008 Standard.

I have a website where I am using the JSON webservice. I have uploaded my website on the server.
Problem:
When I try to access the webservice it gives me the error as shown in below screenshot. In the below screenshot MyServices is my webservice. MyServices.asmx is the name of the file that I am trying to access.
Troubleshooting that already has been done:
I tried cleaning the bin folder and rebuilding again. But it didnt work.

I was reading the article http://www.dotnetbips.com/articles/c585b4d3-93c5-4c66-9d49-8e1946f4d311.aspx it mentions different ways of passing data b/w pages and one of the methods it suggested was
public string Name{get{return TextBox1.Text;}}Now call the server.transferprivate void Button1_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e){Server.Transfer("anotherwebform.aspx");}On the destination pageprivate void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e){//create instance of source web formWebForm1 wf1;//get reference to current handler instancewf1=(WebForm1)Context.Handler;Label1.Text=wf1.Name;}Now i tried to replicate that my first page is Default and second is Default2.aspxinserted this in my Daefault public string Namer { get { return "sOME string"; } }and in Default2.aspxprotected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Default2 wf1; //get reference to current handler instance wf1 = (Default2)Context.Handler; Response.Write(wf1.Namer); ///The problem is Namer does not exist ?? }Why cant it find namer(I strongly doubt it could ??) could you make another webform a baseclass ?? what does contexthandler do ?? Why cant i make this example work ??

I have an application asp.net with framework 3.5sp1. I had used DBML to access all my stored procedure and EDMX to access to all my web services. on the development machine all is ok I have no problem, but when I deploy the application on the production server (WS 2003) and I try to execute my web servcie (myapp.svc) I get an error message "cannot open this page, view the server log".
the IIS is correctly configured, the security I used Anonymous with an authentificated user (not IUSR_server) I give him full control to my virtual directory.
permission is ok for aspnet...
I tried to execute some pages that use only DBML and it works fine.
